How can I remove grime/tire marks on my driveway?

Hey everyone, after years of living my driveway has gathered a ton of black streaks, tire marks, and grime. I've tried taking a hose and blasting it but it doesn't do anything. Sadly it's baked in pretty darn good. Has anyone ever cleaned this before? Is there a service for this if I'm unable to? Hoping to get it clean again!! it's such an eye sore every time I come home and leave the house

Moving to Lexington,SC

Hello, I plan to move from Florida to Lexington, SC within the year. Honestly we settled of Lexington because there were newer homes that were more affordable and available for our time frame of moving. I am a POC and while I have not experienced much racism to my knowledge I am fairly concerned that I may be unknowingly fully immersing my self. I still have time to change my decision. I have searched for more POC in the area and have found very little. My family and I tend to stay to ourselves and more than likely will be going into Columbia for work. Any advice would be helpful.

Read Before Tomorrow's Irmo Flock Camera Town Hall.

Reposting for someone else, but worth the time. TLDR added by me, Tomorrow evening at 6:00 is the town hall. (7/21/2026) This isn't a town vote, but a vote by the council. The council has been known to be swayed by public pressure. This is the public's chance to be heard, whatever side you are on. Contacts to the councilmembers are below.

IRMO RESIDENTS — PLEASE READ BEFORE TUESDAY’S VOTE

Tomorrow night, the Irmo Town Council is expected to vote on a 5-year contract worth approximately $403,050 to expand Irmo’s Flock Safety camera network from 11 cameras to 33 cameras.

This decision will be made by only five elected officials. It takes just three votes for the proposal to pass.

Whether you support this proposal, oppose it, or simply have questions, please make your voice heard before the vote—not after.

Many people hear the phrase “license plate reader” and assume these cameras simply photograph license plates.

The technology is much more sophisticated than that.

In addition to reading license plates, the system can identify vehicle characteristics such as make, model, color, body style, visible damage, roof racks, decals, bumper stickers, and the exact time and location where a vehicle was seen.

The concern many people have isn’t just one camera taking one picture.

It’s the software behind the system.

When a vehicle is detected repeatedly over time, software can help identify travel patterns and frequently visited locations. That can potentially reveal highly personal information about someone’s daily life—not because anyone physically followed them, but because repeated location data can paint a detailed picture.

That could include visits to:

• an attorney

• a therapist

• a medical specialist

• a church

• a political meeting

• a family member

• or simply where you live, work, and spend your time.

Supporters believe these tools help solve crimes and locate dangerous suspects.

Others believe the privacy implications deserve more public discussion before entering a five-year agreement.

Both opinions deserve to be heard.

Oversight matters.

Just days ago, three Fayetteville, Georgia police officers were fired after an internal audit reportedly found they had used the Flock system for searches that investigators say were not for legitimate law-enforcement purposes.

That does NOT mean Irmo officers would do the same.

It DOES demonstrate why any powerful surveillance technology should have strong oversight, transparency, auditing, and accountability.

Questions every resident should consider asking:

• Why are 22 additional cameras needed?

• Who can search the system?

• Is every search audited?

• What penalties exist for misuse?

• Which outside agencies may receive or search Irmo’s data?

• Could future surveillance capabilities or data-sharing policies expand without another public vote?

• Should a five-year surveillance contract be approved before holding a dedicated public town hall on the issue?

Publicly known positions

Mayor Bill Danielson has publicly supported expanding the Flock camera network.

Councilman Gabriel Penfield has publicly questioned the proposal and stated:

“I’m a supporter of law enforcement, but not of 33 cameras and aerial surveillance.”

Mayor Pro Tem Dr. Barb Waldman — No verified public position found.

Councilwoman Phyllis Coleman — No verified public position on how she intends to vote.

Councilman Mike Ward — No verified public position found.

Town Council Meeting

Tuesday

6:00 PM

Irmo Municipal Building

7300 Woodrow Street

Residents who wish to speak should contact Town Hall before the meeting (the town has requested registration by 3:00 PM Tuesday) or sign in at the meeting if public comment is available.

One final thought…

No matter where you stand, this decision affects the community for years to come.

If you support the proposal, tell your council members.

If you oppose it, tell your council members.

If you simply believe a decision of this size deserves a dedicated town hall discussion/meeting before a vote, postpone the vote so citizens have time to get educated with flock software and answers to your questions, tell them that.

Democracy works best when citizens participate before decisions are made—not after.

Looking for employment

Hi everyone! I’m looking to replace my current part-time job with something I’m more passionate about, such as tutoring or working in an after-school program. I’m just not sure where to start looking.

I have my high school diploma and have been volunteering as a reading tutor for children for the past year and a half. I’ve really enjoyed it, and it’s made me realize I’d love to work with kids in an educational setting.

I know not having a degree may limit some opportunities, but I’m hoping there are positions where I can gain experience while I continue working toward my education. Right now, paying for school is a financial challenge, so I’m trying to take things one step at a time.

If anyone knows of tutoring centers, after-school programs, or other opportunities in the area that might be a good fit, I’d really appreciate your recommendations. Thank you!

Tattoo laws in South Carolina

The tattoo laws in South Carolina are being challenged. How does everyone feel? You cannot have a tattoo parlor within 1000 feet of a church or school and yet you can have a “intimate” shop, smoke shop, or a liquor store within 500 feet.

Hi! i need tattoo artist recommendations!

So i’ve been in columbia (irmo specifically) for almost 2 years. Im almost 20 now so of course when i did turn 18 I went and got tattoos with inexperienced artist, which no hate to them but i just didnt do my research like i should’ve. Im looking for someone who knows what they are doing, i want them to be the only person i go to in the future so someone who i can stick with, would also love to support a woman artist 👀 (BUT not opposed to any gender artist as long as they have good lines and know what they are doing) also would be great to find someone who can do a coverup on one of my tattoos! TYIA hope everyone has a great sunday :))

UPDATE: im going ophidian!! super excited to see these girls art in person :)))

Hii, I just moved to the Richland area, close to the summit neighborhoods (I think that's the name), and I wanted to find a creek or river area that isn't super public and that's free I can safely just chill and enjoy nature at.

(something similar to what I have pics)

Thank you for any answers!!

Moving to Columbia from NoVa

Hi everyone,
I’ll be moving to Columbia for work later this year and would really appreciate some local advice.
I’m coming from the Northern Virginia area and will probably only be in Columbia for a couple of years, so I’m looking to rent rather than buy. My budget is flexible, so I’m more interested in finding the nicest, safest area than keeping costs down.
A little about me:

• Asian woman living alone
• Safety is my top priority (especially walking to/from my car at night)
• Prefer newer, high-end/luxury apartment communities with good management and amenities
• I don’t mind driving, so being close to downtown isn’t essential if another area is nicer or safer

What neighborhoods or apartment communities would you recommend? Are there any areas I should avoid?
I’d also appreciate any advice from other women or anyone familiar with the area.
Thanks in advance!
