A few days ago, a pretty weird guy handed me this piece of paper covered in bizarre symbols, Chinese characters, runes, and dates in 2026.

I have no idea what it means. Can anyone help me decipher it or figure out its purpose?

Me and a friend searched during our lessons hints and explainations about that mysterious paper. I also read all your comments thank you all!

1. Not only in Switzerland We created a "My Maps" which we added all the places where these kinds of paper have been found. One of them has been found in Villeurbane (next to Lyon, France) 2 years ago.

2. Symbols It seems to be Furthac and it's also written in mirror There's also some Chinese and it's a very popular poem

3. Meaning It actually means nothing. It's written in german. Someone had decrypted the one from Villeurbane and it described when Charles De Gaulle has been arrested and put in a jail in Würzburg. Seems like wikipedia/complotist type of stuff.

4. The person I found his Facebook and I won't publish it here. If you found it PLEASE don't interact with him or just be kind. The theory of a potential schyzophrenic seems to be true. I'm not a psychiatrist or anything related to the medical world (I suffered 4 years of studying biology so never again lmao) but it looks like someone who's hyperfixated on random facts and likes to write it in an artsy way !

So I devised a cipher which is really simple to encode, but stupendously difficult to decode without a key. It is similar to OTP, but the key is not wholly random, though an additional layer of codes (any kind) can be placed on top.

I mostly used it just to share information with people, but after some time this kinda backfired because I started receiving spam emails with random codes. I blocked most of those emails, but one in particular seemed to stick out to me. It read simply as follows:

The email was from some Iranian hotmail address, but due to browser restrictions (I use a custom-made fork of Firefox) I can't paste the text here. I presume most of my family and online coworkers, even, know about the cipher (but NOT which codes I use) and many are located in the Middle East. So, I presume it's from a coworker, though I left that job many years ago. Can you help me solve it?

My coworker and I worked at an oil refinery in southern Persia. We had some minor disagreements here and there, but nothing really serious. They were never really attached to me but never disrespected or disconcerted me, even after my "sudden" resignation. We were used to communicating in this OTP-like cipher (the code was a long, memorable phrase like "What the hell why is a giraffe eating a kangaroo is this the soviet union") with an additional substitution cipher of simplicity (A - I, a - o, B - p, b - Z , although we'd change the substitution and exchange them every 15 or so messages). This recent message, I think, uses an OTP cipher, but I have no idea if it's my system or if it's an actual OTP. I don't really have much time to spend on solving this, hence why I'm posting it in this subreddit.

I had little beef with any of my other coworkers, and so I don't think such a code would have been sent by them, and also I presume many will have forgotten about ciphers entirely, since I was the only major user of them for
anything, which led me to one coworker in particular (the one I mentioned).

Edit 2: UPDATE: I found out it is a coworker of mine after simple social engineering. For anonymity though, I'll call them MK.

Context: this is the front-door cipher of an ARG I built — a real one, not a contest. A straight Elder Futhark transliteration is nonsense, because the runes are shifted against a running key (Vigenère-style; the key is a single 8-letter word). The · marks are word breaks and the plaintext is plain English.

A way in: the message ends by telling you where to go — the last two words are a web address, so read the very end as a name followed by "dot com". Drag that as a crib against the final runes and the running key falls out; the rest decodes from there, and it names the door. No source link here on purpose — the solution is the source.

One of my friends sent this to me and told me to decode it. She confirmed it was pigpen but it turned out to be gibberish. She included that the special symbols above the letters are Mandarin Pinyin. Although I had these hints, I still couldn’t understand it. If any person is kind enough to decode it, please do. Thanks.

I have always liked the thought of making my own code. For what reason I don’t have one and I made it on break at work. I believe it would be really hard to break by hand. If a computer got involved and it was a longer text it would be no problem to break. I want some feedback and see if anyone could crack it.

Hint: it is the start of a book I (red) back in school

It is not a secret at all in would be more then happy to explain what it means and how I made it.

I photographed an LED billboard that alternates between exactly two frames. I manually reconstructed each frame pixel-by-pixel. Each frame alternates exactly every 3 seconds- don’t know which is first, and the remaining images show two overlay orders. The display consists of three rows of repeated L-shaped symbols with only a handful of variants. I’m trying to determine whether this is:

• a classical cipher,
• a custom encoding,
• an animation-dependent message,
• or simply decorative.

Any ideas on what encoding family this resembles?
