Informative I built a free web tool to search & compare classical guitar strings across brands (gauges, tension, material, and tonal specs)

Hey r/classicalguitar!

As a long-time classical guitar player, I’ve always found it tedious to compare string specs across different manufacturers—especially when trying to fine-tune treble/bass combinations or balance tension across strings for my own instruments.

To solve this, I built a free, lightweight web app called ReString Logger, and I recently rolled out a new Cross-Brand String Search & Comparison feature.

🌟 What this tool does:

  • Side-by-Side Comparison: Compare tension (kg/lbs), gauge (mm/inch), and material (Nylon, Carbon, Titanium, etc.) between any two sets or individual strings.
  • Tonal & Tactile Profiles: Visual graphs for Brightness, Sustain, and Flexibility for quick comparisons.
  • Individual String Filtering: Great for custom set mix-and-matching (e.g., finding the right carbon 3rd string).
  • Zero Friction: Completely free, no login required, runs directly in your browser (PC & Mobile), and supports English / Japanese.

🔗 How to Access:

Since direct promotional links are restricted, you can try the tool by searching for "ReString Logger". I can also share the direct link in the comments if requested!

I built this purely to give back to our classical guitar community and make string selection a bit easier for all of us.

I’d love to hear your thoughts, feedback, or suggestions:

  • What string brands or models would you like to see added to the database next?
  • Are there any useful features to be added?

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and answering any questions! And if anyone wants to test it out, let me know and I'll drop the link/info in the comments!

Nails HELP LAST MINUTE FIX BROKEN NAIL EXAM THE NEXT DAY

Hi! I was closing a window and ended up breaking my entire middle finger nail.

I have my level 9 guitar exam tomorrow afternoon and I am FREAKING OUT if maybe you can tell from the title!! I NEED a last minute fix to get me through the exam. I am playing lots of repertoire that requires a (obviously) non-broken middle finger nail and I’m not sure if there’s any way to strengthen my nail enough by tomorrow.
That line you see on my finger is where the break is, and it goes through my entire nail. My nail is currently hanging just barely on the right.

I would greatly appreciate any help!! PLEASE AND THANK YOU

im never closing a window again oh my gosh.

Performance This is my tremolo after 3 years of playing classical guitar. A small fragment from a home recording of Etude No. 4 by Julio Sagreras. At that time, I was playing with gel nails, which made it more challenging😵‍💫

Buying Advice Seller says 9105 Granada 1970 Japan $125. Y’all probably know better than me—is this a good guitar at a good price? It does have a ding on the rosette which the seller pointed out. TIA 👊🏼
