“People” consistently posting bikes that they don’t own…

Getting lots and lots of posts from a few offenders (some have recently been banned) just spamming the sub with pictures of bikes. (It’s likely that they’re bots but the last one we banned went on to make some really aggressive threats that sounded very human…) Some of them are clearly way out to lunch and got the axe, but some are posting relevant and legitimately cool bikes, but it just feels annoying because they aren’t contributing in the way of any original content.

Mod team is inclined to just start banning people who abuse posting random choppers from the internet, but if the rest of the sub likes seeing these bikes we can also let it slide. I get that people want to maybe share or discuss a cool bike that isn’t theirs, but if your ONLY contribution is consistently posting other people’s stuff we think it should be no warning and straight to ban. What say you?

Regarding BOTPOSTING and non-relevant content.

We've never previously banned anyone but we've banned several people (who were actually probably bots) this week that are just posting random barely chopper-relevant motorcycle content. Please just report all karma farming posts and I'll nix em.

If your neighbor REALLY DOES have a cool chopper or you saw a cool (actual) chopper on the street and you want to post a picture of it, put a little effort into it the post or it's just going to result in a ban.

We get that chopper can have a bit of a flexible definition, but if you're posting about your chopper or someone else's chopper, and it's got rear shocks on it... think long and hard about what you're about to do. We are willing to admit that swingarm choppers exist, but it's certainly not the norm.

Lastly, this is NOT the place for fat-tire, 2000's era OCC bikes. If it's got some weird-ass scoopy rear fender, consider posting it on r/DumpsterDiving

That is all.

Finally getting around to fixing the (paint) mistakes of my youth and need a paint source

My father in law has been painting choppers since the 1960s, and he is helping me fix some of the stupid mistakes I made when I was young like rattlecanning over the flame paint job my first sportster came to me with.

I never liked the flames, but now 20+ years later I am finally getting ready to repaint my tins and it was cool to see them reappear again during our prep work.

Question for the painters: he suggested we spray it with an acrylic enamel, but wasn’t sure where to source paint nowadays.

Any suggestions on a good acrylic enamel black paint and where to source it?

I am based in the SF bay area California but we are painting down in SoCal

Don’t remember what the year was but it was a fun project. My buddy here did a lot of the work as he is more familiar with the metric bikes. I was the apprentice on this one lol!

Anybody have any idea what would make an intake valve with good seals make that squeaking noise you hear?

Internal wiring.

1969 triumph.

I’m able to send about 6 wires up the centre post and along the back bone pretty easily.

I’m planning on drilling a hole in the bottom side of the backbone for a few wires to drop out.

Ideally I’d like another hole up near the neck for headlight.

Should I weld a bung into the backbone to maintain strength?

And I know a bunch of you have drilled an exit hole in the neck, but I’m pretty cautious of that.

Sportster for spring question

Post image

I have a 1996 sportster 1200 that I’m lengthily the forks on. I pulled the forks apart and I found that the main spring seems to be a little shorter then stock which I assumed was from west and tear. But then when I pulled the lower tube off I for the damper has 2 springs installed on it. Every where I’m looking online it seems it’s only supposed to have 1 spring on the damper tube. So I wondering if I have a lowering kit or something else going on I don’t know about. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Sissy Bar Collab

Chain weld by @hotnheavymetal + Stained glass by @sloeeyedsolder (me)

Edit to clarify safety nets put in place to protect from vibration:
I have silicone fit in the exterior zinc frame to try and keep vibration to a minimum. I have a glass buddy who did a sissy about 6 years back and used a thick rubber band border in her frame. Her glass pieces are bigger, so more susceptible to breaking and it's still going strong!

We're raffling it at a shop party, so assuming whoever wins it rides frequently, we can test out its durability and see how we can approach future orders!

Thanks for lookin’ y’all!

Tire Spec

got a 96 sporty with the throttle addiction hardtail kit I’m building. I need to downsize tires and currently have a 16x5 wheel in the rear, with a 5ply 75 sidewall. Curious what size tire you guys are running and what it looks like

Dilemma

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

Hi all,

I've woken up in a bit of a situation... the only footwear I can find is a gumboot and a flip-flop.

By some sheer stroke of luck (or God), they are for alternate feet.

My question is: with my Chopper being my only mode of transport at the moment, is it better to ride barefoot or risk this footwear?

Edit: Upon closer inspection, the dilemma has worsened. The gumboot is for my right foot. Should I force the right gumboot onto my left foot so I can upshift?

Not a single mod to the frame so officially NOTACHOPPER but also I don’t care, deal with it. This hasn’t been started since 2018 but I recently had ACL surgery and can’t kickstart any of “the good stuff”
