Confused students

I’m a future pre-nursing student who is also getting a CNA certification on august I just wanted to know if anyone here changed majors from nursing to any other major for example if i ever change my mind i would definitely go into MIS with a minor in Marketing but I also think of stability and how difficult would it be for me to find a job in both careers. I just want to hear students, their experience and their why. Thanks to anyone who reads this and helps a student out!

Clarence Carroll HALL?????

My rising freshman son missed deadline to pick housing (he does everything on his own AND procrastinates) so him and his roommate got auto assigned to Clarence Carroll Hall. It’s not even listed in the list of residential halls on the reslife website home page. What built-in-1957 kind of dorm is it. Sounds like it’s a classroom building, not DORMS? What is going on. Where is it even located? Is it a dorm for students with special needs because my son doesn’t have special needs other than a habitual procrastinator. I know he didn’t want to get assigned to the freshman themed dorms. Is it in a horrible location not near the gym or dining? Tell me the good bad and ugly. No AC. So I assume no elevators either.

What are your thoughts on CCSU turning into a polytechnic university?

I’m sure many of you have heard the news that CCSU is investigating the possibility of transitioning the school into a polytechnic university. What are your thoughts on this? As someone who graduated from CCSU’s computer science program, I like the idea of the university putting more emphasis on the STEM programs. It’ll hopefully give CCSU more brand recognition for employers seeking to hire STEM majors. I know the computer science program is not as demanding as UConn’s because my cousin majored in CS at UConn and I’ve seen how difficult their homework assignments and exams are compared to ours — but I still think the CS program at CCSU is very solid. In fact, most of my friends and I were able to secure software development jobs that pay at least $85K right after graduating.

As a polytechnic university, hopefully the school will make the STEM majors more challenging and rigorous so that Central develops a better reputation for STEM. That and more research of course.

I have to say though, it does make me wonder what the future holds for non-STEM majors at CCSU. Will we see lower quality from those programs due to less focus and resources?

By the way, has there been any news on CCSU changing its name if it does end up actually changing to a polytechnic school? It would be cool if it‘s renamed to Connecticut Institute of Technology or ConnTech haha.

CCSU summer housing

I’m a transfer student and was wondering if CCSU has any resources for students experiencing homelessness, even if they’re incoming transfer students.

I’m currently dealing with housing instability and trying to figure out my options. Does CCSU offer any emergency housing assistance, support services, or even summer housing for students in situations like this?

I’d appreciate any advice or information. Thanks!

CCSU summer film iso

Hey ccsu! I just graduated from my undergrad at another university and am going to do a mfa in film in the fall.

Due to a turn of events, I’ll be staying here in Connecticut until then, so I’ve been looking for opportunities to get more experience around here. I know that ccsu has a relatively populous film community, so I was just wondering if there were any filmmakers that want an extra set of hands on their projects shooting this summer.

I’m training in cinematography, but am open to most roles down to PA.

Deciding if CCSU is right for me (Mech E)

Hello devils

I’m currently in the process of transferring colleges and was hoping to hear some perspectives from current or former CCSU students. I’m a Mechanical Engineering major transferring from SCSU, and I wanted to ask about people’s experiences with the program overall. I am particularly interested in the school's internship opportunities and connections with engineering companies. I am torn between here and Uconn, though, as a 24 year old still in under grad, the cheaper tuition, less rural location, and smaller class sizes are much more appealing.

Financial Aid for final semester

Hey y'all

I'm a Computer Engineering Tech major set to graduate Fall of 2026. I'm taking two of my remaining required courses over the summer, so when fall rolls around, I'll only have three classes left that I actually need to take. Two of them are three credits, one is two credits, for a total of 8 credits.

Since I transferred here in Fall of 2024, I've relied on scholarships and grants to cover most of my tuition each semester. I have been fortunate enough to not have to take out any loans. To qualify for the financial aid, I had to take a minimum of 12 credits per semester so that I could be considered a full time student.

I've heard that at other schools if you are in your final semester, you don't necessarily have to take 12 credits; any amount of credits you would take would make you full time. I heard that might be the case here too, but I don't know how true that is.

Would any alumni or anyone currently in their final semester be able to verify if that is true?

I'm open to taking additional courses if I need to, but if I would still qualify for financial aid regardless of my final semester credit load, I would prefer to just stick with the three courses I actually need.

Advice for an Incoming student

Hi! I’m an incoming freshman at CCSU and trying to decide between commuting or living on campus.

I live about 20 minutes away by car but we share so some days I may need to take an hour train ride. I don’t have a strong social circle, so I feel like I might miss out if I don’t at least try living on campus freshman year.

If I do dorm, it would cost me around $6–7k for the year. (No debt) My current idea is to live on campus just for freshman year to get the experience and meet people, then commute the rest of college to save money.

For anyone at CCSU do you think it’s worth paying $6–7k for just one year on campus? And is it still easy to stay social after switching to commuting?

Would really appreciate any advice!
