Hopefully if Thunderpole knows the demand for these they’ll make them.

Question Install CB in 6v Pos ground vehicle

Hey y’all, looking for some technical expertise. I’m currently setting up my antique car to do a cross country trip in the US which will include a leg in Alaska. I had wanted to install a CB radio since it would be useful for the more remote sections of the trip. However the more I’ve looked into it the more it seems like it won’t be possible since my car is a 6V positive ground electrical system. I intended to install a 6v to 12v converter for the radio and some auxiliary lights but from what I’ve read the CB antenna will need to ground to the vehicle to work properly which won’t work if my car is positive ground. Is there a work around here that I could do? I do not intend to full convert the entire car’s electrical system, so I’m wondering if there is anything else I can do.

Discussion Got some people intrigued…

Carried a Thunderpole T-X around me yesterday in Exeter with family and apparently I’ve had everybody looking at me and then I’ve had a few interactions… one thought I was a staff member for JD Sports, one thought I was a staff member for CEX or some security, and apparently some security from Tesco tried talking to me but not loud enough.

How interesting 😂

Worth sending an offer?

I know it runs 500 new. Is it worth the used price? Tia.

Question RFI and EFI that big of a problem (in my situation?)

CB radio newbie, be patient <3
im building up a 2018 Police Interceptor Utility
my end goal is a 3 channel dashcam, a radar detector, an audio system (amp location would end up being towards the trunk more than likely) and a CB. on making a list of things to do, gemini has told me that i should specifically get a certain type of spark plugs that limit EFI (sp520x, resistor type spark plugs) and when i posed the question “is efi from just the spark plugs that big of a deal?”

it gave me this wall of information. is gemini way overstating the severity of efi interference? im smart enough to not obstruct the antenna and not run my coax on the same side of the vehicle as any large hot wires, but ive just never heard of this level of meticulousness?

(will be a 4ft browning-140-b with a no drill fender mount on a cobra 25 ltd wx classic with mini-8 coax adapted down to the correct terminations on both ends)

The radio arrived today, and my first impressions are great.

I’ve already made a few DX contacts and local AM QSOs

Question Hey y'all I'm brand new to CB. I've just installed my cobra 29 LDT classic with a 50 ohm coax antenna cable. My question is with correct antenna placement and tuning to get the SWR right does 75 ohm double shielded coax really make a big diffrence. I really feel like I'm asking asking dumb question.

Again I really feel like I'm asking a dumb question I could just Google. But I feel like a human answer might be what I need here.

TTi TCB-H100 handheld info / mods?

Hi All Have a recent (2020) TCB-H100 which does not respond to the keyboard shortcuts to select export bands. Allegedly there is a pcb mod but with no service manual, no obvious solder pads near the microprocessor and no screenprint or component names (aargh!) I need more clues. Anyone come across this? I am told (by the internet) it is capable of PX/RU high band. Any pointers gratefully received 73

Transmitting issues

I have a Uniden 510XL mounted in my truck with the included bracket and a 26" magnetic antenna, I can receive just fine from my friends but when I transmit it cuts out UNLESS I physically hold the radio, it can be just 1 finger making contact but as long as I am touching it, it transmits almost perfect with minimal cuts.

ANY idea why this could be happening

Question Antenna Fail/High SWR Bearcat 880

Thumbnail
gallery
30 Upvotes

Hey folks, I just upgraded from an old handmedown Cobra 21 to a Bearcat 880 and left the antenna the same. I never had issues with the old radio with transmitting or receiving, but the new 880 is saying the antenna fails its diagnostics and the SWR is very high.

I have a browning whip NMO antenna paired with a magnet NMO base. The coax runs from the roof -> roof rail -> windshield -> hood ditch -> engine bay with drip loop -> firewall -> behind dash to radio. Can’t think of what the issue could be why the same antenna setup is causing issues with the new radio.

Any ideas to fix the high SWR/antenna fail? I’m not too knowledgeable about CB tuning. Thanks!

I just installed a Uniden 510XL into my truck and was wondering if anyone had a good recommendations for a better mic with a longer chord, I feel like when I stretch this chord even a little bit the mic starts cutting in and out.

Question Advice choosing a radio

Background: I'm not "new" to cb or ham radios but I haven't touched them since I was a pre-teen when my dad & I would do fox hunts and try to make contacts around the world. I'm now in my late 40's...

I am a CDL trucker working for a local construction company driving 6/10 wheelers and none of the company trucks have radios. I think I would benefit from a radio so I can communicate with the different material yards that I visit. I might also use it in my personal vehicle during commutes or road trips.

I've been researching & the results usually say President models or Radioddity CB-5000 with various different options for anntena. AM/FM & SSB seem to be highly recommended features right?

What's something cost effective that can be used mobile or swapped between my vehicles easily?

TLDR: Looking for recommendations for easily swapping between vehicles and using it for work (truck driving)

Question SWR Meter

Post image

Just installed a 4’ tunable tip fire stick on the drivers mirror of a 2019 Freightliner Cascadia. Have not ran the coax yet as I’m waiting for it to arrive. I want to make sure I have a good match and tune for my General Lee. Will this truck stop meter be adequate or should I just stop by a shop and get it done professionally?

Question I'm new: What antenna do I need?

Hello! I just got a Cobra 29 LX MAX on marketplace. I always wanted a CB radio and found out the hard way that it's NOT plug and play. I got a Scosche CB201-WP antenna, but it seems that its basicly crap.

Can anyone give me some direction and recommendations on how and what I should buy? I have a 2004 Crown Vic. It has a rubber plug in the roof from the PD equipment that was in it. The idea is I could run a wire through it or put a new antenna there. There is also one in the trunk. I am willing to spend $100 on good antenna equipment. That can be negotiated if needed.

I will be using it to hopefully speak with people on the road when driving, and mostly for talking with friends I like to cruise with.

Thank you!

Remember to bring a handheld CB when visiting Cozumel for listening to CB taxi chatter 🇲🇽

The island of Cozumel is mostly a jungle and only one half of the island has cell service. Because of this, all of the taxi on the island have long whip antennas. Some of the taxis appear to have custom antennas like the one in the photo
