Medical Questions What is this?
I was petting my cat and found this on him and tried pulling it off but it wouldn't budge. It seems to remove the fur surrounding it and worried it could be a harmful organism, cyst, or something.

Nipple :) please do not remove, it should stay attached, even when not in use. Someone reset the counter

I'm glad the counter reset has arrived from other subs..

Wait there’s a counter reset?

u/scarredballsack 1h ago
Oh yes,, in a car sub the most popular cars people ask to be identified are vw karmann ghia, De tomaso pantera and the Shelby cobra, all of these get a reset the counter..

u/Schmaron 1h ago
This is like the bone subreddits. We have to reset it every time someone finds human remains. It’s wild!
37
u/scarredballsack 1h ago
I'm guessing that everyone seems to find human remains all over the place.
28
u/Schmaron 1h ago
I have yet to find any. Lol

I'm gonna assume that not finding skeletal human remains is a good thing..

I am an anthropologist and it’s definitely not a good thing. It’s a lot of paperwork….

OMG, that popped up in my reddit feed some days ago and I'm not even on any bone collecting subs!
That was wild!

On PCMR the counter resets when somebody posts a picture of their smashed glass side panel on their PC case.
12
u/Senior-Schedule6598 1h ago
The first thing that comes to mind when I think of counter reset is the Simpsons intro.
8
u/Active_Vegetable8203 1h ago
In the coin subs we have the Jovita Idar quarter, people ask all the time if it's rare or valuable (it's not). We have a counter for that as well.

At this point I'm always wondering if it's a joke/meme post or a genuine question when I see this.
49
u/Prollyuh_Slut 1h ago
Im sure some are silly little jokes, and others are silly people worried about their kitties. Maybe one day, cats having nipples will be common knowledge.

u/scarredballsack 1h ago
It is possible this is a post trolling, I'm certain the pantera ones are.. or it's possible that people don't realise kitty's have nipples..
64
u/TheArtOfPureSilence 1h ago
When I see people make posts about how they try and pinch and remove these "pimples" or "abnormalities" I want to literally punch them through the screen lol
12
u/Diplomatic_Gunboats 1h ago
Yeah but you know they didnt really try very hard. They still have arms and fingers left to type with after all...

I'd guess maybe two maximum, they should rename this kitty porn sub , I've never seen sooo many nipples

u/Chimpbot 1h ago
My wife spent over a decade in the veterinary industry. You'd be shocked at the number of people who don't realize that cats have nipples - especially male cats.
74
u/ComprehensiveLeg7870 1h ago
I find that so bizarre. I knew since I was quite young that every cat had nipples. Even people who dont have cats must have seen em on a dog or smth
26
u/Chimpbot 1h ago
It hits people from all walks of life, too. Even well-educated professionals go all Shocked Pikachu Face when they realize cats do, in fact, have nipples.
15
u/ComprehensiveLeg7870 1h ago
But like how do they think they feed their young?? 😭😭. They must have never seen a dog or cat have babies in their lives. Mabye they get confused as teats are used more commonly to describe animal nipples?? Idk still wierd.
14
u/Chimpbot 1h ago
Honestly, I think it's just something that the average person doesn't really think about. "Oh. Right. Duh." was a pretty common response after the owners were informed of what those little nubbins actually were.

I've asked "does your husband have nipples? Yeah, male animals do too" 🫠
7
u/SelectionWitty2791 1h ago
Similar story. And a human physician I saw was surprised that most mammals share most of their anatomy. Hell, most vertebrates share a whole bunch of their anatomy. I did not go to this physician again.
8
u/Chimpbot 1h ago
Yeah... that's not a physician I'd want to go to, either. There's a reason why anatomy classes use other mammals for the purpose of dissection. There will be obvious anatomical differences between a cat, a pig, and a human... but the fundamentals are all there.
Mammals are mammals. Our systems aren't all identical, but they're all pretty damn similar to each other.

I've also had someone book an appointment with me because they were concerned about a strange noise their cat was making. It was purring.

OP, it is OK. You want the best for your kitty.
When I got my first cat at 22 I took it to the vet because of this weird growth on his skin. I paid money for the vet to tell me that was just his nipple.

Your poor cat. Hope he snatches your nipple and pulls and tugs it to see if it comes off.

Americans are so afraid of tits they don't recognize them on other mammals. Sad.

I found these posts funny at first but the sheer amount of them is crazy. Do people not do any research on their animals? Or look things up before running to make a post of their own?
3
u/Vintage-Grievance 48m ago
I've wondered the same about humanity for a very long time.
In general, there are so many posts on social media that ought to have been questions or reverse-image searches typed into a search engine.
Because a lot of people don't sit back and take a minute to reason/rationalize, or don't attempt to learn things on their own with the same devices they're using to immediately flock to social media.
Obviously, someone isn't going to type in 'nipple on male cat' into a search engine if they don't know what they're looking at, but I'm pretty sure all these people could find the answer (a lot faster than someone might reply on social media platforms) by just typing 'Tiny pale/pink bump on cat's belly'.
'Not knowing', I could understand, especially if someone spends a lot of time not being that observant, but not attempting to educate themselves on their own first is the part I don't get.
You'd think their anxiety or self-awareness would be in charge of telling them, "Hm, I should Google this first, just in case, so that I don't have 100+ people calling me an idiot.

That’s def his nip, especially if he seems to have more than one across his tummy. If it’s elsewhere then I’d just visit a vet but I’d be shocked if it wasn’t anything else other than that 😭
