Yeah I experimented with blocking the bottom of the fridge to keep the toys from going under but it was ineffective lol. So I have a stick that I use to fish them out.
If possible. Move out the dishwasher, (if you can easy enough). The cat will stay out their path and grab them unsuspecting and quick solve to the problem.

So I am super late to this thread but wanted to chime in. My cat was doing the same thing the other day. At first, I didn’t think much of it because he loves ice but inevitably always picks it under the fridge. But he was obsessed. I let him do his thing. When I walked into the kitchen later, he had pulled out an ice cream bar wrapper with the ice cream completely melted. It somehow fell out of the freezer drawer and he was determined to get it. I can’t tell in your fridge has a bottom drawer freezer but mine does and that’s how it must have fallen out.
Same problem a week ago with my cat. Except under the bathroom vanity. Called orkin $289 for traps and a subscription $99 a month for them to come check. 🙄alright kitty get to work!!
My detectives like to chase, play with, and bat at mice. No murdering. Moths, crickets, bats, and spiders on the other hand..... Never the mice. Which is annoying.
(Also, related to the bathroom, no rabies and they're up to date on their shots.)
Better than bringing alive one into the house as a gift. All of my cats have played with them until they got bored, killed and ate them. I even had one that liked to chase chipmunks up into the trees, got a couple of them chipmunks too.
We didn't originally have screen doors when we got our kittens 14 years ago.
As they got older they realized we wouldn't be able to feed ourselves unless we learned how to hunt ~or~ they found it entertaining to release small animals in the house to see how long it would take us to catch them.

But they're so cute and loving when they're not in murdermode.
That's my void! She's the house murderer. She'll toss them in the air a couple of times before she decides to destroy them. My calico played with one until she wounded it enough that it crawled somehow under the bathroom cabinet and died. Ugh, the smell.
My mom lived in a rural area and had 5 indoor-outdoor cats. They would bring home all variety of small critters in varying states of aliveness. Once, they brought in a bird and took it into my mom’s bedroom while she was napping. My mom had stage 4 lung cancer. They released said bird, and it started flying around. Two of the cats stated bouncing off of the walls like they were filming parkour videos. Mom woke up and started yelling. I ran in, the bird flew out of the room, cats followed. I assumed that the bird found its way out. I got Mom settled, then sat back down to finish watching my tv program.
It wasn’t long before I saw two cats guarding the basement door like it was the hottest club in town. Upon investigation, I found out that’s where the bird escaped to. I went down there, which was a fear in and of itself, as Mom’s house was literally over a hundred years old, and that basement was scary. I found the bird and spent the next 15 minutes trying to catch it inside of a box, while three cats were competing with me to see who got it first.
I finally captured it, and how it didn’t keel over from fright, I do not know. I took it outside and released it far from the house in some trees.
One of Mom’s cats lives with me now, and I swear she still holds a grudge. Idk what she would have done with it had she caught it, she has maybe 5 teeth in her whole head.
My orange boy loves to hunt down bugs, not to play with them, not to eat them... instead he just loafs near them and watches them. If they get away he repositions.
One of my cats, normally uninterested in insects/bugs, once did exactly the same as OP's cats for a solid 15 mins.... Staring at an ant. I didn't even want to check at first fearing mouse, spider, whatever... Nope, ant.
Could be. Or a bug. Or a lost toy. Or dropped food.
We have a kitten. I gave the dog a treat which she ate. Then gave the cat a treat which he batted around the kitchen until it went under the fridge. So I gave him another one. He batted it around until it went under the stove. Now the cat and the dog keep staring, whimpering, and pawing at all the appliances.
My cat caught a mouse that ran out from the dishwasher once. That was 3 years ago. To this day she still sits in front of the magic mouse dispensing dishwasher waiting for another one
My cat does this trying to get scraps of old burnt food from under the oven, he checks daily even if nothing new was cooked yet. He just has to be sure he isn't missing out on any possible free food.
It could really be anything, or even nothing, sometimes cats literally just stare under the fridge like they see something, even if nothing is actually there.
If you find little turd pellets around the house, might be mice. Otherwise, it's probably a bug under the fridge or something. My cat looks under the fridge sometimes if there's a bug
Or a toy rolled under there. Just go to bed. If you have a mouse, you’ll know it in the morning when you find the corpse. Highly recommend sleeping with your door closed tonight though.
Or cockroaches or maybe very small ghosts or hes just fascinated by his reflection. Cats are like that.
Mine will stare at a spot on the wall. The spot is a dab of wax that got splashed there when I blew out candle. He will watch it for hours. I dont know why.
My cat caught a mouse, brought it to show me, dropped it at my feet. The damn thing ran under the couch, I called my son to help me lift the couch, and he proceeded to scare me which caused me to drop the couch on the freaking cat.
Thankfully my cat was fine but he hasn’t caught a mouse since that day, poor dude was really proud of his live catch 😆😆
In my experience when my cat does that, there are ants. Or crumbs that look like ants, which eventually leads to ants anyway.
And my cat just stares intently at the ants making no attempt to eliminate them. You have very few jobs, Guillermo, and bug control is supposed to be one of them!
It was a mouse! Woke up last night to her chasing it in the dinning room. The mouse was squeaking so loudly as it ran for its life. Bowie was not successful and it got away. The hunter continues to wait patiently for next time!
Or cockroach’s, I had a faded orange that would sit and stare at the drain in my bathtub the when they popped up he would grab them and bring them on the bed to my wife at 2 in the morning, get an orange cat they said🤣🤣🤣
I live in an older part (early 1900’s houses) so water bugs are just a thing. We spray heavily for them but every once in a while one get buy 😢😢
Could be, but could be just a bug. My cats bury their will stalk anything that moves 🤣 If it’s mice, you’ll find the body lol. I live in an old house and in the winter, my cats bury their catch in their litter box. GROSS, but at least they clean up after themselves so I don’t step on it lmao
My baby boy would knock his toys under the kitchen appliances and then do this because he was sad he lost his toy. When I moved I found SO. MANY. MISSING. TOYS. 😂😂😂
I have one client who does this periodically throughout the day and it always freaks me out. You'll see traces of mice if they exist but not of ghosts...
not necessarily. under the fridge is classically where cats will put hoards of their toys which you'll find months, or years later when cleaning behind the fridge or replacing the fridge.
No mine does this and it's always a spider, centipede, something she was playing with and lost under there she is hoping will come back to her. Might be a mouse but Shercat Holmes has for you covered 🕵️♂️
My cat does this in front of the stove a lot. Often enough that if I did have mice, I would know by now lol. I assume it's spiders or these big darkling beetles that get into my apartment a lot.
Whenever my cat starts hunkering down in the kitchen, silent but alert, I know we have mice. About 12-24 hours later he'll present me with a small brown mouse corpse.
Maybe a roach or something. Doesn't even have to be a food roach either. Those Tree Roaches (the big ones, I think some ppl call them Palmetto Bugs) can get this reaction too. Those suckers get 2-3 inches long here. Absolutely massive. Cats adore the papery flapping noises of their shells.
Mine stare under the oven and dishwasher sometimes. Lets me know when one of these has made it in. They're stupidly common around here.
