Cat Picture - OC Why does my cat lay this way all the time?
I know she has 1 or maybe 2 braincells. But still not sitting even once in 8 months of her lifetime seems weird to me.
Her belly is white because it never touched the ground.

Because they are comfortable. And they trust you by showing you their belly.

It means your cat doesn’t have a worry in her world, she feels completely comfortable and deemed your household trustworthy.

u/backpackwayne 8d ago
That means she trusts you. They wouldn't do that to just anyone.

Exactly. For an animal, exposing the belly is extremely risky. That your cat does it means you can be trusted and/or your cat feels safe

Yep. My cat hears my key in the lock, runs to the door and flops down and rolls on to her back while making eye contact with me as I come in. She KNOWS I think it’s adorable and I have to put everything down and pet her immediately.
She does it when I’m trying to eat dinner too, she’s like nope come pet me instead and I almost always cave.

u/AdJust6267 7d ago

One of mine will be upside down and use her claws to "run" around the lower shelf of their cat tower while still on her back.

THAT SWEET FACEEEEEEEE 🥴 I’ve had three cats, one boy and two girls, who like to lay like this. Constant need for airing out the belly. Or they are like those fish who have air in their stomach (in such a non serious way though) and just cannot function any other way

Let alone, who knows what this is

Ours do that when it's warm. In the winter they are rolled up, but now that it's hot, they are laying tummy up all the time.
Maybe they can cool down better because the fur is thinner on their tummy? Just a theory.
And also, because they trust you. A cat would not show you their tummy if they do not feel totally comfortable around you.

My big orange boy lays like this all the time and he genuinely wants the belly rub. You can stick your whole face in his tummy and blow a raspberry and he just kinda wiggles happily.

Cats actually rule the world.
These poses are what they do to convince us they are just quirky creatures.
Wait, I have to go, my cats are looking at me suspiciously, like "He knows!"

Dogs and cats do this when they truly TRUST you they will lay on their backs with their tummies out (which is the most vulnerable position for them)

Airing out the undercarriage! My big boys do this a lot. One also does it to get attention, but mostly it's just to get better exposure to the fan/AC.

Just like my ex...happiest on her back. Hopefully, this cat isn't going belly up for the neighbor, too, like she was.

These are the poses my cat loves to hit when i catch her doing something she knows i dont like. "Oh look how cute and soft my belly is, i definitely wasnt eating trash again"

Floofy tummy-rubbing invitation. She also trusts you not to rip out her inner organs.
3
u/Do_unto_udders 7d ago
That's a sign of deep trust! Why? Because that's where vital organs are. If something wanted to hurt your cat, the best way to go about it would be on the stomach-side of the rib cage, which holds those organs and provides some protection.
Her laying like that means you've made her very happy and she hasn't a care in the world! Also, she might love some tummy pets too! But the main thing is that you're a great cat parents because she really loves and trusts you. So sweet!

Mine does this as well. They are showing trust and mine at least wishes a belly rub.
3
3
u/FriendshipOk6888 7d ago
It does mean she trust you and is comfortable in her environment, and knows she has loved!! It’s also probably because she has the biggest most beautiful eyes and she wants everybody to see them, lol
