What was filming Tuesday?
I visited on vacation July 14th in the morning. The cathedral opened a few minutes late because some sort of filming was happening and a crew was moving their stuff out. Later I saw them filming on a street. I didnāt gawk because I didnāt want to mess anything up.
PS- Canterbury was so charming.

Part time jobs which are actually hiring?
Are there any part time (or full time) jobs which are actually hiring here? So many places post job adverts on Indeed/Linkin or even their company websites and then just never get back to you or are super competitive (like McDonalds etc). I'm a Uni student btw and I have experience as a waiter, children's volunteer worker, retail etc. Thanks a lot!

Good outdoor places to watch World Cup matches?
Hey folks. I'm looking for somewhere to watch World Cup matches (not necessarily England), preferably in a garden, and with a relatively "family friendly" atmosphere. Any recommendations?

Are there any pubs with a decently wide variety of food that will be showing the world cup?
Me and my girlfriend want to go watch the world cup games tonight and she wants to go somewhere that does food but has a semi-wide variety of food on offer.

How much do haircuts cost?
I haven't had a professional haircut in years as I used to get my friends to trim it for me (we have haircutting scissors) but they've all moved away. As you can see I'm not fussed about the quality as it's just hair and it'll grow back lol. I'm looking for somewhere to trim my hair (a straight cut, about an inch from the bottom) and every place seems to charge 35 to 50 if not more for a cut, but I haven't had a haircut in ages so I don't know if this is normal pricing? Any advice is helpful TA!

Visit advice
So... on our way to London from Folkestone, we would like to visit Canterbury.
Main goal: lovely sightseeing (cathedral/ Westgate/ some timber-framed buildings maybe?).
Also to have a nice lunch and a pint somewhere?
The main question is: "Is there a place we can park the car (height +/- 2m) and walk to do above?"
I know some garages might have a height restriction or areas in the center are 'no-car'zones'?
Hope to hear from you and hope to have a nice stop-over as well!
Thanks a lot in advance!

Pointless Canterbury West security
So often there is beefed up security at Canterbury West station of an evening. Yet tonight two blokes came out from a train and jumped over the tall gates on the side of the station that they leave open after hours and just sauntered into town clearly having no ticket. These were both men 25+. Why not actually make the gates secure or put spikes on top or, and hereās an idea, actually put your security guards there rather than all of them in the ticket hall!
edit: a few fascinating replies here that I would wager are from the same people that claim Britain is broken while also suggesting ticket evasion is fine
Also clearly beyond someone peoples comprehension to understand I am also criticising the over zealous security aimed at the vast majority of ticket buying travellers while they ignore and do nothing about the blatant fare evasion under their noses.

Canterbury recs
Hi everyone, former Canterbury resident here !
Haven't been back in around 5 years and I don't know what's good in town anymore. Coming in town this weekend for a little getaway, do you have any recs on where to hang out in the evening ? Looking for chill pubs, preferably with a nice big beer garden to enjoy the sun !
If you know what's on this weekend, good live gigs or world cup screenings friday or saturday (if it's outdoor then even better), please lend a former neighbour a hand !
Also do you know of any venue that's alternative / lgbtq friendly (but not a student hangout, I'm past that stage by now sadly)
Also looking for a restaurant that serves nice homemade food, not too pricey.
Thank you !

Ubers and Taxis
My friend is currently stuck in Canterbury after celebrating a friend's birthday. He wanted to go home around 1am and tried calling an Uber to get back to Folkestone. Uber won't do it. Taxi service want £70 and don't want to do it anyway.
Drivers are saying it's too far, when it's literally a 20 minute journey, but will take people on drives where they could easily walk around Canterbury. Huh??
What the fuck is the point of a taxi / uber service that only does 10-15 minute drives? The whole point is that you can't walk the distance so you hail a taxi! How is anyone meant to leave Canterbury at night after a party??
Are taxis just for cities now or what?

Is it Ćlfheah ?
Everyone thinks they have the bones of Ćlfheah, but this pit says NO.
A burial pit of 10 near Cambridge, incl this 6' 5" "GIANT"
ĆlfhÄah literally translates to "elf-tall".
It must be some relative WEALTHY person as the teeth are all INTACT which is unheard of actually. Looking forward to seeing if aDNA can be extracted. I really believe they've got ĆlfhÄah - Ćlfheah Archbishop of Canterbury .
Perhaps it is the actual site of a simple cell (also calledanchorhold) built against one of the walls of the local village church. And they've discovered the locals buried within its hold.
Still, rare thing to be elf-tall with good teeth likely wealthy and dead in a pit of small other dead guys with a hole in your skull that was carefully drilled. DEAD RICH GUY....
