So I just had my last reference and employment finish up all I need for the first gambit check. I was wondering how long it'll take (give or take) after that's done that I'll hear about medical/interview

I’m 22F currently in the CAF. I want to go back to school and get my bachelors and potentially go to law school. I’m having a hard time deciding on whether I want to do schooling through the military or civilian side. I don’t know if the CAF would pay for 7 years of schooling but even if they do, that sounds like a lot of years I’ll be owing back after i’m done. If anyone has any similar experiences or advice I would really appreciate it.

Hello! I am supposed to start BMQ in the next few weeks and I am curious if anyone has ever asked their C.O if they are able to defer to a later date? A few things have come up in personal/family life and am trying to get it all sorted asap, but it has been a lot and am trying to get it all sorted to be available by the first week of Aug, but it might not be feasible. Wondering if anyone has any insight of feedback on this? Thank you

First, Is the trade still open ?

Do they start you on your bmq and then you wait for your clearance before dp1?

How long does the top secret clearance take? What kind of things are they looking for ?

Hello, I am looking through the listings of positions in western canada brigades, and it doesn't seem to have imagery technician role shown here. I used to work as a photographer in various places, and I was wondering if Western Canada brigades don't operate Imagery technician role at all, or it is something I should contact the brigade directly to.

Does anyone know how CFAST marks you? For the test, do they rather you go slow and be more accurate or fast and semi-accurate? Considering redoing it.

Also my online portal is still on medical and interview, even though I've already finished both my medical and interview, fkt my result back from the medical and finished my psps. Is there a reason it would still be stuck on that stage?

Good news, I have my medical and interview booked for the 18th of August 2026, I don’t have any major medical issues, can anyone share any good advice or tips for the interview would be greatly appreciated.

Ugh, so after a long wait, I was finally told that I do not meet medical requirements and I’m waiting on the official letter to find out why. I have no medical issues, there was a hold up for an ECG document that I had to resubmit but that was the only issue that ever came up (and my ECG was totally normal btw) … anyone go through this? I’m super discouraged at this point.

Right now their grad is scheduled for my second week of BMOQ, has anyone received permission to step away and attend someone’s graduation ceremony while also attending basic?

I’ll survive without it, it’d just be a “nice to have”.

My bf is going to BMQ on August 8 in Quebec & my thoughts are running wild. We’re in a long term and committed relationship & I wanted to get some insight on some difficulties we would face along the way.

1. Will it be hard to start a family while he’s in the army - having a baby, raising them, spending time with us? He will be a gunner

2. Would I be able to live with him once he gets posted. Would we have to get married in order to do so? (I’m not too worried about relocations myself, I’m a board certified inspector in aerospace so finding a job won’t be a problem).

3. How do deployments work? Should I be worried

4. What’s the timeline like once he passes BMQ?

5. Do they provide and kind of support for girlfriends/boyfriends or would we have to be common law or married?

In prep for bmoq I was wondering if it would be worthwhile to do a stair master with a weighted vest on in preparation specifically for the sheer volume of staircases at the Mega and the load ill be carrying? Proper form obviously goes without saying, but just wondering strictly whether the exercise is pragmatic or wouldnt really serve any purpose?

Just like the title states I am a 30 year old male going through the application phase now. I have my medical scheduled for next week and hop to be at a BMQ early next year. By that time I will have turned 31 years old.

I have a few questions that I was hoping sole veteran or experienced members would be able to answer. I know I am apart of a small minority in terms of age and applying for infanteer. I am I very good shape and I have very good discipline, so that is not a concern for me.

I want to make a life out of the infantry section, are there infantry soldiers that are in there 40's?

If my goal is to get deployed, how many deployments can I really be looking at over the span of my career?

What are some things that I may need to consider that an 18 year old recruit might not need to?

How tough is infantry Dp1?

Last but not least, any pointers for me going forward with this application and career path?

So after a training course failure (TDO), I'm looking at a COT. I had previously come from NWO. Both were academic related... For NWO, a very stressful family situation came up during training, and for TDO, I honestly couldn't get out of my own way in the TPWB process... I was trying to control the board process too much and wasn't taking input from my "SMEs" (it was a scenario, not a real board) properly and had some issues facilitating.

I should put out there that I'm 49, decently fit (Bronze on last FORCE test) and have been working on getting more fit and weight down lost close to 20 lbs since the start of the year.

I'd like to stay on the officer side, and I'm looking at the following options currently available : ACSO, AEC, Infantry and Artillery Officer.

I'm not a "bad" student and I absolutely see where I have had issues in my training, having received good feedback. I know I can use it constructively to be an even better officer.

However, I also know that I could be steered in the direction of NCM trades, which I'm not against. It took me awhile to finally get into the CAF, and my desire to serve is strong.

Honestly, I'd rather do something more "active". A couple of colleagues have thrown out considering some of the following... Some of the CE trades, like electrical, and if staying on the Navy side, looking at operator trades like Nav Comm. I'd also consider trades like Vehicle Tech, MSE OP. There's a lot of options. 

Because I haven't treated my body too badly, I've also considered Sig OP and the main combat arms trades. Wish I could do IMG tech, but it's not available.

I don't feel that I'm above anything, and I truly want to serve and deploy.

Would appreciate any input on this.

Bottom line, I want to stay in the CAF, in either an officer or NCM role.

I’m an incoming infanteer who’s torn about picking my top choice for placements it’s ppcli vs rcr. I wouldn’t be getting my G2 until most likely after DP1, unless I could bang it out if I get fucked with a long PAT platoon. And then probably couple more months to get a car

I’ve heard the whole, rcr is more strict and ppcli are more cowboys. I’ve also heard about the visibility of the CSOR guys at pet, but tbh idrc about that too much. As someone who’s looking to be light inf/jump so 3rcr vs 3ppcli. Any more insight on listing one over the other on my preference sheet when the time comes.

I go to bmq in less than 2 weeks. I got a minor injury on my hamstring a few weeks ago while training hard. I am fit enough to do the bmq physically, just worried the injury might hold me back. The pain is not unbearable I would say a level 2 out of 10. Do I have to inform my RC medical team or go for my bmq now that it’s so close. I got my tickets and have everything prepared and ready to go.

I am stuck on choosing what career I would like to pursue I understand at the end of the day I do not have to choice and it’s up to my career manager. My question is what would be my best bet to stay in Ontario.

How often is background check done post joining and which instance might trigger it i.e. deployment, base change, etc?

I know Canada isn’t actively involved in large-scale combat operations right now, but what are the chances of actually seeing combat as a Combat Medic if I stay in long enough? Has anyone here deployed in that role recently, and what was your experience like?

I’m also really interested in special operations. If I perform well as a Combat Medic, is that something that gets noticed by CANSOFCOM or JTF2 recruiters, or is selection completely separate? Does being a medic provide any advantage, or is it all based on your performance during selection?

So I’ve finally finished my trade course a few months ago and joined an infantry regiment. Now my schedule is 8 to 12 doing whatever needs to be done until there is a course or a field training. Is that it? Will that be my life for the next 25 years? For the moment my salary is good but I will eventually grow up, and I think the salary by rank does not scale well with age. Any way I can go officer from here? If I change trade for a specialized one after my 3 years contract will I go down in salary? What can I do to not end up as an alcoholic divorced 38 years old mcpl
