We will spend a day in Bruges with our family (2 children 9 & 12 years old) in August. First time for us, what are the must-haves?

We love history and anything to do with art deco.

Hi all! Me and my partner are in Bruges for the day on Wednesday (roughly 10am-5:30pm) and we're looking for ideas on how best to spend it.

We were originally hoping to go for a swim in the canal, but it looks like it's closed at the moment because of the algae bloom.

We're now half thinking about heading out to the close-by Zwin Nature Park for a bit, but wondered if anyone had any other suggestions? We're happy with anything really - nice walks, good bike rides, good food, hidden gems, unusual things to do, or anywhere good to relax for a few hours.

What would you do if you had a day in Bruges that's not too €€€

Flying into Brussels early Friday morning with another couple. We’ll drop our bags at our Antwerp hotel by around 9 AM and then have the entire day free until late evening before we settle in for the night in Antwerp and prepare for 2 days at Tomorrowland.

We want to make the most of it — thinking Bruges and/or Ghent, since they’re close and we’ve heard both are stunning. Looking for advice from people who know the area:
Bruges, Ghent, or both in one day? Is it realistic to do both well, or does that turn into a rushed transit day? If we had to pick one for a first visit, which wins?

Best way to structure it by train from Antwerp — and does the order matter (e.g. Ghent first then Bruges, or vice versa)?

Can’t-miss things in each — the canals, a specific viewpoint, a great terrace for a beer, that sort of thing. We like wandering, good food, and atmosphere over ticking off museums.

Where would you eat/drink for lunch and an early dinner — somewhere memorable but not a tourist trap?

Anything that’s better in the evening — a spot that’s magic at golden hour, or a lively square once the day-trippers leave?

We’ll have been up all night on the flight, so realistic energy levels — but we’d rather push through and see something great than nap. Group of friends, up for walking, food, and a good time.

no big explanation, just decided it one day. saw the canals, saw the cobbles, and that was that, decision made. don't need a spreadsheet for everything. that's it

since then ive basically been cold calling antique dealers all over the place asking if they're hiring. no real strategy behind it, just liked the idea of turning up already halfway into a conversation with someone before i even land.

most of them find me slightly amusing rather than employable, which i'll happily take at this stage. better than being ignored.

called one today, proper had a laugh down the phone at me, actual genuine laughter, but told him i'd swing by and visit in a month and a half once i've actually moved over. he seemed into the idea, or at least into the idea of seeing my face in person to figure out what he's dealing with.

think ive figured some bits out along the way. still a lot up in the air, flat's not sorted, job's not sorted, but the city's decided and that feels like a start.

will update in a month once more of this actually makes sense to me.

still beats being in my home country i suppose. I'll figure the rest out along the way.

I'm planning a trip this fall and want to take the ferry to Dover, preferably early enough to see the cliffs on the way in. Is there public transit that takes E40 and A16 in a direct route? I won't have a car.

Receiving some foreign friends end July, they will be arriving in Zeebruges and have only one day’s time for visit, so I’m planning to show them the beautiful Bruges.

Mussels lovers, would like some recommendations for a nice cosy restaurant with delicious mussels.

Also I remembered a nice boat tour back when I was at university. Is there any recommendations to avoid a long queue?

hello, we are visiting Bruges with teenage children. Yesterday we did a canal tour and the guide said that during july and August there are desegnated areas in Brugge where people can swim in the canals.

I cant seem to find any information online so any information would be brilliant.

We are visiting Brugge this weekend from England and were hoping to find the best spot to watch the England game, which are the best spots worth going? Also, we'd love to watch your match on Friday around the locals, so if there's anywhere we'd be best / most likely to be able to get in to watch, would be much appreciated!! Hi all, hope you’re all healthy and well.planning a trip for my boyfriend’s birthday!

I’m after some recommendations for Bruges, specifically town central (ish) +/- 2 miles - which serve the best burgers and some decent beer. Bbq meat and grills also welcome. Complete newbie to bruges so would appreciate some experienced advice.
Also some ideas for a good breakfast/brunch !
