Discussion Update to long delayed Sesame Street movie...

So there's finally an update to the long delayed Sesame Street movie that was announced in 2019 that Bo had written the songs for. Not long after that production was delayed due to Anne Hathaway's pregnancy.

Further delays came about because of Covid, the last release date being announced was for 2021. There haven't been any pictures from production, or much info at all really. A look at the imdb listing does seem to show a movie that *was* filmed - there's a set medic, catering etc, not just pre-production stuff. (Edit: as I say below in a comment, I’m not 100% sure it did film, due to lack of camera crew credits. It could well have just got really, really close. There’s no editor, but that doesn’t necessarily mean things weren’t filmed, but again, no camera crew.)

It looks like it's going to Netflix (no surprise, they're the current home of Sesame Street), but according to the article:

The news comes courtesy of Jeff Sneider’s latest newsletter and seemingly ends a painfully long journey to production that has seen the project change studio hands several times since it was first announced in June 2012. Sneider says Netflix are wiping the slate clean of previous development stages and involved talent, including Hathaway and Burnham.

So will this now be lost media? Seems a shame that we're going to miss out on seeing Socko's origin story.

Edit: That pic of Elmo exemplifies my pain.

There’s a casting grid in this week’s Production Weekly for a new “feature film” directed by Bo titled “Outside.” Has there been any info on this project?

In the video by Marissa titled “stop telling celebrities about the omegaverse (i am begging)” (published 15th of July, 2026), she mentions Zack Stone being part of MTV’s rise of scripted television aimed at teenagers and young adults - with this leading in to a big discussion about Teen Wolf.

It’s a long discussion, so the video link starts at the MTV section.
Starting at 31:28 she discusses Zack Stone being self referential, and that the show took risks “…almost making fun of the type of teenagers they (MTV) had been putting on TV.”

Funny Feeling Window washer

Randomly remembered "Inside". I used to be so obsessed with it.

Did the "Window Washer" scene make anyone else feel melancholy? Especially with the music.

My read of it, from the first viewing was: Bo Burnham in an alternate reality. Robert Burnham, if you will.

Still the same man, still the same humor and talent, but: nobody knows. No platform, no Comedy Central special, no Netflix specials, no tours, no comedy albums. The potential of greatness confined to the ordinary.

It makes me further melancholy when I think: how many people are there like that in the world? How much potential never breaks through? How many brilliant window washers are there?

This song makes me burst in to tears and just gives me so much dread and a feeling that something about being a human has been lost in a way that will never be recovered, at least not at a societal level. And yeah it makes me really sad.

Poll Bo Burnham Alphabet Game. D is for...

D is for...

Submit your favorite song, quote, word, project, or thing related to Bo Burnham that starts with that week's letter and/or vote for your favorite!

The winner each week will be the comment that gets the most upvotes!

Last week the winners for C were:
1/ Can I interest you in everything, all of the time? - 95 upvotes - u/foleydil18
2/ Can't Handle This - 93 upvotes - u/PlasticJesters
3/ Content - 83 upvotes - u/EssTeeEss9
3/ Call me and I'll tell you a joke - 83 upvotes - u/Underestimate_mypowr

A few rules:

  • Only submit 1 item per comment. If you suggest more than 1 thing in the same comment I won't know what thing people are upvoting to win.
  • If multiple people comment the same thing, the comment with the highest number of upvotes will be the winner. For example, if "Are you happy?" gets posted seven times and one comment has 10 upvotes, another has 5, and the rest 1, the comment with 10 upvotes will win.
  • You can add as many comments as you like and upvote as many comments as you like

Each post will be run in contest mode, to randomise the order of posts and to hide total upvotes until the following week. I will try to post at different times throughout the day to hopefully hit everyone's availability.

I'll be collecting stats to share at the end of the competition!

Discussion A song lyric that really reminds me of Bo Burnham

From the song It Girl by Penelope Scott:

“No one on TV ever gets better

Soon as they do, they go off-screen

It’s so bittersweet that you keep watching

It’s bittersweet that you want to believe.”

Discussion Martha Beck's "Beyond Anxiety" introduction is centered around Inside

I love seeing/hearing Bo and his work talked about in various media. He deserves so much more recognition for not just his content, but the evolution and the amazing story/growth we see unfold over 16 years. Any other books I should read or listen to that use Bo as a source or inspiration?

Question Best Bo interviews?

howdy. I'm about a decade late to being a fan of Bo (other than liking the few songs I'd heard here and there) and earlier this week, I guess I heard a song from Inside and then watched Inside (then what. and Make Happy) for the first time, and I'm having a weird mental illness-autism-self doubt thing going on where I'm struggling to accept how much I really connect to his art since he seems to have a whole ironic post irony Nothing Is Real And The World Is A Stage approach, at least from what I've gleaned, and I'm curious if he has any interviews where he more earnestly gets into his artistic motivations and attitudes.

Would super love to hear any suggestions y'all have!

Question Looking for the appropriate way to send Bo a letter

Hi everyone,

I’m hoping someone here might be able to point me in the right direction.

I’ve written a thoughtful letter to Bo about how his work has resonated with me. I’m not looking for a personal contact, private information, or a way around his privacy. I completely respect his boundaries.

I’m simply wondering if anyone knows the most appropriate way to send a letter that might have a chance of reaching him—whether that’s through his publicist, management, or another legitimate avenue.

If anyone has experience with this, I’d really appreciate the guidance. Thanks so much.

Question If you could pick one of Bo's songs for someone to make a piano cover of, which one would you pick?

I've made a violin/piano cover of Goodbye a little while ago, but I understand how the song might be overdone as there's already a lot of covers of Goodbye out there. I want to post another cover here of another song by him, so if anyone has suggestions for what they would like to hear, I'd appreciate it!

Thanks :)
