We're not far from the end of our campaign for the Uganda Village Boardgame Convention, a unique event that has our young people teach boardgames for four days to around 500 other children in the rural parts of Northern Uganda. We bring the children and feed them, provide other activities like films and music and even sports, but most children play boardgames every day all day.

This year, Gordon Hamilton, Maths Professor and Designer of Santorini will be out special guest and we will be featuring a number of Maths games, like Power Grid in the Convention.

Would love to have more space, this shelf is the only space we have in the house and it has to be hidden away because I have young children.

I remember this conversation coming up years ago, and back then I nominated Betrayal at House on the Hill needed a Scooby Doo tie in… and then they actually made it.

Anyways, curious on what people would do nowadays. For purposes of discussion, if you wanna talk about mechanical changes you’d want to make to make it fit the theme better go ahead, but the overall game needs to still be recognizable.

Been in the hobby for a couple years, but got more serious a couple months ago. Main pride is that almost every game here I got for a discount or bought used. My favorite game in my collection is Lost Cities as it is the only one I manage to beat my Fiancé at as well as one of the first modern board games I bought! Let me know your thoughts or any questions, recommendations, or changes you have or would make!

Me and my boyfriend are trying to decide what to buy to make this area where we store our games better. I have so many board games that I have to hide many behind the front facing game of each cubby (as seen in the third picture), and some games have too big of a box to fit in a cubby at all, leading to them being stacked on the bottom of the second smaller console table to the right. In the meantime I’ve just been displaying the more often played games front facing in each cubby but behind each is a stack of others. What should we buy to hold/display the games more nicely?

For context, the fourth picture shows the overall dining room where the games are since the dining table is also our board game table with the removable top. So we’re looking for something that would look good in this space, while also being restricted by that window in the center.

I like playing board games and other strategy games but I am very bad at them, looking from a strategic and tactical angle. I have no trouble learning the rules. After like half a session of a new game, I basically know all the rules and after one full session I can teach others to play it. People in our game club often let me explain rules to new players because I'm quite good at explaining things so others understand. Simply said, I catch on to new games quite fast.

But when it comes to actually playing smart, I fall completely flat. I feel that I for some reason don't possess the correct abilities and thought process to study a playing field and come up with the most optimal play. When I look at the board, I often just end up winging it and hoping for the best. Others seem to be able to actually "read" the board and come to a conclusion. I never really come to any conclusion. I just literally stare at the board and can't come up with anything relevant. Much of what I do is often guessing.

I don't know if I suffer om ADHD/autism or anything but something inhibits me from seeing good plays in basically any game. It's really frustrating because I never seem to understand what I did wrong or right. I just can't read the board and understand what would be a good move.

And I don't seem to become better with time. I've played Hearthstone on and off since it's release and still am pretty bad at it. I can watch countless of streams from pro players but when I try to implement it in my play, I'm back at square one. I just stare at the playing field and don't really know how to evaluate it and end up just doing random stuff mostly.

Not sure what I want with this thread. Perhaps someone has the same experience?

Started having a regular group for boardgames. Out of Spirit Island, Scythe, or Root which would you say is a must have and why?

Do you have a must have recommendation outside of this list?

Let's appreciate those games that have stuck with us through thick and thin, through accidental spills, sweaty hands and snack covered fingers.

Clue might not even be the best game, even in its own genre, but it most certainly has picked the interest of many a player at my table as if luring them to heavier and more complex waters

Is there any game in your collection that despite its less than ideal state, still gets the love it deserves?

I designed and 3D printed my own version of Tumblin' Dice this past weekend. My kids and I have been having a blast with it!

Then, after enjoying several game sessions, my kids and I (and friends online) started brainstorming different add-ons like gates, traps and ramps! Each module is attached to the frame with a concealed clip that can be moved around to any level, left or right.

I haven't uploaded those modules to MW yet, but I will soon.

1. I wanted a more vibrant playing field;
2. Easily readable borders on the fields;
3. All fields are clear hexagons without any clipping (in the original game, the map itself slightly clips the outer hexagons, as the entire field is rectangular);

Hi Everyone. What’s your thoughts on Parks Europe? Do you need this? Have someone already backed it? It looks beautiful (that’s why I bought the original one :), but do I need another cutie? I’m in Europe, but looking at game and thinking. Am I correct that this one will be in retail later as it is basically? On the fence.

I've wanted for a decade, still never found, and still not built:

A set of small linked pucks to track turns, with (at least) two modes:

1. Sequential, my light is on when it's my turn, I press it when I'm done, next player's lights up.
2. Simultaneous, everyone's starts on, press to turn out, flash all when all out (e.g. 7-Wonders).

Has anyone see / built anything like this?
Can you think of any other modes?
Would it be useful to others?

I really enjoy playing campaign games with my friends and want to hear everyone's recommendation for their top campaign games. Maybe there's something i haven't even considered yet or heard of.

So far i've played:

1. Kingdoms Forlorn
2. Aeon trespass: Odyssey
3. Kingdom Death: Monster
4. Oathsworn
5. Frosthaven
6. Gloomhaven

By far the best were the first 3 due to the combat and gear system. KF and AT:O both also deliver a smacking story on top of it, making it a grand adventure. There's something about challenging boss battlers that keeps me going. Oathsworn deserves praise as well, though the replayability factor is pretty low. Frost and Gloomhaven are kind of things on their own and as much as it was groundbreaking, the core design is not as fun for me due to the combat system being underwhelming.

Currently playing: Arydia (tbh not enjoying it as much as i was hoping i would).
Still on the shelf: Crimson Scales.
Potentially thinking about: Aeon's Edge campaign mode.

I just saw that the language game 'Gibberers' is going to get a release in Germany.

Been a little obsessed by it since a saw a 'No Pun Included' review years ago.

However while researching I found 'Dialect' (available in Germany as well) and was intrigued. It is technically a RPG but seems to have a boardgame like ruleset.

I understand that both games aim for a completely different experience but I still don't think that I need two games about developing a language.

Therefore I wanted to ask you: Have you played one or both? How did you like it? Are these games even offering replayability or is it more like a one time event?

Does this tile give 5 coins per star level or 1? I argued that it gives 5 because thats how many coins are on the image and everything else that gives coins has the exact amount of coins on the image, but everyone else agreed its 1

Hello! Regarding *Schotten Totten*, the rules state that you can claim a marker even if your opponent hasn't yet played their three cards. Also, in the event of a tie between combinations, the player who played their third card first wins. So, if I play a Green 7-8-9 first—knowing it is the strongest combination—can I claim the marker even if my opponent hasn't played any cards yet?

Asking because I want to get the expansions and maybe the premium tokens someday, my local boardgame store can only get me the base game.

Sort of cool. Unplayable as it depends on answering 1930s questions like "Who is Mussolini's press secretary?" or how the government handled a labor strike in 1937 - they sent in the Army, but interesting.

My friends are getting into board games recently, and I bought Dixit Odyssey since we sometimes manage to hit over 8 players (last game we played was 4 teams of 2 to play Risk) so we can play. It's an easy game to understand and play, so I hope they like it.

I personally really like how beautifully made the art is, so I want to protect the cards from damage over time (especially since my friends really like slamming and throwing things. They get way too competitive sometimes). I already bought MayDay sleeves, the 90 micron ones (had to buy 2 packs since it's only 50, and Dixit Odyssey is 84 cards), however I was hoping to ask if there are any outer sleeves to protect my cards as well?

I tried googling for 80x120, but only inner sleeves kept coming up (like the MayDay), so I wanted to ask here. Like, are there any really thick ones like Dragon Shield? Really protective you know?

There is a traditional board game from Nepal (Baghchal), Is there any proper online platform where i can experience this game? Have you guys played this game before? it seems to be a interesting game.
