pre-cooked pasta is gross

I have typically enjoyed the Blue Apron pasta meals because the sauces are much better than I could put together myself. But, recently, there have been more 15-minute recipes with pre-cooked pasta. The pasta is mushy, it doesn't cling to the sauce appropriately, and this ruins the recipe. Please, Blue Apron, get rid of the pre-cooked pasta recipes.

Mayonnaise and sweet chili sauce

What is it with this combination?

I've gotten two recipes recently--the bang bang chicken and sweet chili cauliflower & paneer bowls--where the inclusion of mayo is baffling. Mixing these together feels like assembling Applebee's-level slop. And it just doesn't taste good, at all?

I'll be clicking into recipes to try to avoid getting this combo going forward. I know the BA of years past is dead and gone but I am about at my limit with the drop in quality, complexity, and creativity, not to mention the absolutely wild substitutions I've gotten recently. I'm just so disappointed with what this has become and needed to vent.

Blue Apron Cilantro Sauce

I don't believe the recipe they have online - I've made it several times and adjusted it in many different ways and it is nowhere close to the pre-made cilantro packets. There is definitely some kind of spice (jalapeno, serrano?) and I'm trying to figure out the exact recipe. Has anyone been able to duplicate it?

Recipe here for reference:

Makes ¼ cup

Ingredients:

  • 1.5 oz fresh cilantro leaves and tender stems, about 1 heaping cup
  • Juice of 1/2 lime
  • 3 Tbsp water
  • 1 tsp extra virgin olive oil
  • Salt and pepper

Time estimates are laughable

Does anyone else feel like the time estimates of how long it’s supposed to take you to prepare the meals are ridiculous. I’m an incredibly competent cook and I generally find that it takes me double what they estimate. Like they will say there is 10 minutes active time and then have you peel the tough strand off a half a pound of snap peas. Also in addition to chopping to other vegetables and drying seasoning, flowering, egg, washing and breadcrumbing, chicken. Last night‘s recipe told me 10 minutes active time 30 minutes total and it was over an hour before we were eating. Again I’m very confident at age 50 and have been cooking for 30 years.

Does anyone remember this recipe?

I threw away my cards during a move thinking I had everything saved on the app but they purged it all last year.

It was an adobo chicken and tomato achaar (chutney) pasta salad.

I've been thinking about it and would love to try to remake it.

With chicken thighs. Super moist and really delicious. I did add a small pinch of granulated white sugar to the cucumber salad.

How safe do we think Blue Apron sources are with this cyclosporiasis outbreak?

the internet seems to suspect the source is Taylor Farms (again) but I’m still wondering if I should skip my next week orders.

Info About the Misfits Market/Blue Apron Change

https://blog.blueapron.com/guides/more-flexibility-less-waste-same-blue-apron

This was posted on the Blue Apron Blog on July 6. Summary - all ingredients will be "loose in the box". Order up to 6 weeks in advance. Time in transit may be shorter.

I like that the ingredients for each recipe are packaged together so I am not happy about this change. We'll see how it goes.

Really gross peach?

Did anyone else get a nearly inedible peach in the grilled cheese and salad recipe (the peach was intended to go into a salad)? I honestly get a bad ingredient about 1/3 of the time lately and I'm seeing here that's a common experience!

WTH Happened Last Week?

Post image
12 Upvotes

Alright: we are past the point of complaint now because we have already gotten a refund for this meal, but we what the hell happened last week? We ordered the poblano tacos for 4, and the order came with one bag that was complete and one bag that was missing a poblano and sour cream (we already had an issue with another recipe, too). My partner called customer support after submitting a ticket online and I went and bought a poblano and sour cream - easy, right? Until we open the bag and see that this slimy crap is what they gave us for slaw.

Am k crazy or did anyone else have an issue this week like this???

Does anyone know where to find this recipe?

A few years ago, blue apron had a recipe for a Mediterranean style chicken salad. I remember that it had chopped Piquante peppers and dried currants in it. Maybe zaatar seasoning? It was served with carrot fries. I haven’t made it in some time but used to just google it when I wanted to make it. Now I can’t find the recipe online anywhere!! Does anyone happen to have it or know what I am talking about??

Delicious!

I substituted beef for the pork in the recipe. I also cooked early this morning before the heat became unbearable!

Make this make sense…

Due to unforeseen inventory constraints, there was an adjustment made to your recipe which has been approved by our Culinary team. You'll be receiving 2 baguettes instead of the 1 baguettelisted on your Sheet Pan Cheesy Buffalo Chicken recipe card. If you ordered four servings for this recipe, you'll receive 4 baguettes instead of 2.

Need the Crispy chicken and peach pan sauce recipe

Can anyone provide the link to the recipe card for the crispy chicken and peach pan sauce recipe from last week? We received a bag of ingredients by accident so we didn’t get a recipe card, and since the recipe isn’t in our order history I can’t view it online. Many thanks to anyone who can provide a link!

So many missing recipes lately

I have been a BA customer for about ten years (my stack of recipe cards is quite impressive!) That said, I think I’m going to have to leave soon. There hasn’t been one order in the last several weeks that wasn’t either missing an ingredient or missing the entire meal. Today may have been the last straw - NOT ONE single recipe I ordered was included, only weird recipes I didn’t order and I can’t eat. It’s so disappointing.
What the hell is happening with their packaging system? grumbles to self, shakes fist at sky

Anyone Else Split 2-Serving High Calorie Recipes Into 4 Servings?

Thumbnail

I've recently started trying to stay under 1800 calories a day. Sometimes I don't pay attention to the calories of the recipe options on BA. These 2 recent recipes are 1500 and 1300 calories per serving! With the Wagyu burgers I tried cutting them in half for a 650 calorie meal that actually fits into a 1800 calorie day. This week I have the glazed strip steaks which I will be splitting up for 4 ~750 calorie meals.

Odd substitution

So I guess I'm really getting garlic and onion chicken this week?

To be fair, in my experience BA has worked out most of the problems I had when they changed over to their new system.

Orders being split into multiple boxes all of a sudden

My wife and I usually get 4 meals (8 servings across 3 dishes) for the week and they have always come in one box. The last few times we've gotten two boxes, delivered together. Two boxes, two unrecyclable insulated sleeves, FOUR giant ice packs, and a duplicate recipe card since our 4-serving meal was split across the two boxes. Reduce waste my ass. If this is the new normal I'll have to seriously consider canceling. Anyone else having this experience?
