Hello everyone. Allow me to introduce myself, I'm an ex-employee of the Bub's Burgers & Ice Cream restaurant, and after working there for quite a long time, I'm here to show you all some of the inner workings of the restaurant.

Let me begin by saying, none of this is Hate Speech, nor is it an attempt to harass the company. This is me simply showing you all a bit more inside the company, and taking a look at Bub’s as well as its owner, Matt Frey.

To start off, I’m going to address the post made by u/slimeymoonlover. If you need context, I’d recommend checking out their post about the Bub’s Kitchen walkout. The kitchen and Upper management (Matt) had been arguing as the Kitchen felt they deserved more workplace benefits. Management refused so Kitchen arrived late for their next shift (about 3 hours late), causing the morning setup to be heavily delayed. Because of this, Bub’s had to turn down customers due to having nothing prepared, and they weren't actually ready to serve customers until late that day. I cannot say with certainty which side was at fault. However, this incident reflects only one of the broader problems I observed at Bub’s.

A comment I did notice, was stating Matt Frey was racist. I do not know this to be true. What I do know to be true, is Matt is a very Right Wing man. This isn’t a bad thing of course, we all have our own politics at the end of the day, but Matt may have taken it too far, as some of my old co-workers stated. As some of you know, Bub’s operates out of four locations, those being Bloomington, Carmel, Zionsville, and the Indy Airport. Matt’s main focus is Carmel (A much more richer and righter-wing city), as that’s the main money maker of his four operations.
However in recent years managers have come along, and being from Bloomington which is a Blue city, they had a more liberal mindset. Matt was ready to fire many of those managers simply for that reason. This “liberal mindset” includes acts such as;
- Standing up for Employees
- Asking for Fair Pay
- Questioning decisions made by upper management
And so many more horrible reasons!
I’m sure you can see the point from here. Matt is a person who takes politics into where he works, and it was never uncommon for him to cause employees to cry on shift.

Another thing I think should be discussed, and this one’s a doozy; HORRIBLE TASTE IN MANAGERS. As another comment stated in the original post, Bub’s has a habit of losing both employees and Managers left and right. This is due to a horrible work environment, being sick of upper management, or being arrested. That’s right, Bub’s managers have been arrested. One for Tax Evasion, and one for being the biggest Meth Distributor in Bloomington.

There were many problems at Bub’s, and I’m glad I left when I did. During my time there, I saw prices increase, portion sizes decrease, and servers receive blame for problems they could not control. These decisions have harmed both the workplace and the customer experience.

Anyone with questions about my personal experience at Bub’s may message me. Whether it be about hygeine incidents, the overworking, the clothes incident, or any rumors you want to know between fact and fiction, I'll answer them. However, I will distinguish between events I witnessed myself, information shared with me by others, and information documented in public records.

Finally, this post is not intended as an attack on the restaurant’s current servers or other hourly employees. The servers are hardworking people and should not be confronted or harassed over decisions made by management. I am sharing my experience to give people a better understanding of what I observed inside the red-brick building at 480 N. Morton St.

I'm just beside myself that every single night at Back Door now has at least a $10 cover and drinks arent any cheaper and most of the time its just the same rotation of lip syncing dancers.

It used to be a place where anyone of the community could just go and enjoy drinks with others. Now it feels very gatekeepy and classist. Like to just get a drink I'm hitting $20 for a cover, one drink, and a tip? Come on

I’m a Bloomington local who’s been collecting Pokémon cards for years, and I also vend at card shows around Indiana. One of my favorite parts of the hobby is finding older collections, preserving them, and helping them find new homes with other collectors.
I figured I’d post here in case anyone around Bloomington has an old binder or Pokémon collection sitting in a closet that they’ve been thinking about selling.
I’m interested in just about every era, including:

Some of my favorite cards to find are EX cards (both the original EX era and XY EXs), reverse holo stamped cards, full arts, vintage holos, and other unique collectibles, but I’m happy to look at almost any collection.
I mainly look for cards in LP to Near Mint condition, so I’m generally not looking for heavily damaged collections.

With the Monroe County Community School Corporation (MCCSC) school year beginning Wednesday, Aug. 5, the Bloomington Police Department (BPD) has started a traffic safety blitz focused on making Bloomington streets safer for drivers, pedestrians, bicyclists, and students returning to school.

Motorists should expect to see increased traffic enforcement throughout the city, especially in areas identified through crash data and resident complaints about unsafe driving. BPD has worked with data analysts to identify intersections and corridors with higher crash activity and recurring concerns about traffic violations.

Enforcement will focus on areas with documented crash patterns, school-year traffic concerns, and repeated resident complaints. Drivers are encouraged to use extra caution near schools, crosswalks, bus stops, bike lanes, and areas with heavy pedestrian activity.

During the safety blitz, officers will take a targeted, zero-tolerance approach to violations commonly reported by residents, including:

• speeding;
• disregarding stop signs and traffic signals;
• failing to yield to pedestrians in crosswalks;
• turning right on red where prohibited;
• using a cell phone while driving; and
• other unsafe driving behaviors that put pedestrians, bicyclists, students, and motorists at risk.

Drivers stopped for these violations should expect enforcement action, including citations.

The safety blitz comes as Bloomington prepares for increased school-year traffic, including school buses, student pedestrians, bicyclists, families, and returning IU traffic. BPD is reminding motorists to slow down, stay alert, follow posted signs and signals, yield to pedestrians, and keep phones put away while driving.

“Our goal is simple: to make Bloomington’s roadways safer for everyone who uses them,” said Captain Ryan Pedigo of the Bloomington Police Department. “With children heading back to school and more pedestrians and bicyclists moving through the city, we are asking drivers to slow down, pay attention, follow traffic laws, and help us keep the community safe.”

Every time I take my kids there, there are men smoking, drinking, gambling, etc. Usually they're at the picnic table right on the playground. I've tried to not be a nimby about it, but they recently escalated into gun threats within their group, getting the police involved. I assume the city is aware of the issues at the park and I'm not the first person to notice, so I'm wondering if anyone knows anything about what the city is doing/how they handle it? I hate the idea of calling the cops about anything, but these dudes are doing obviously illegal stuff out in the open. Would it even make a difference to call it in? Do I call it in every time? It's literally nearly every day, so I can't imagine I would be calling in new information?

Hi hoosiers! I am a CA transplant new to the area and need to establish care with a new GP and the only feasible option given my new coverage and people accepting new patients appears to be with Dr. Stachowicz at Southern Indiana Community Healthcare. Their website says their #1 value is following Jesus’ teachings, and I am trying to suss out if that is code for things like “we don’t believe in psychiatric care” and “you can’t get birth control here.” I am perfectly happy with interfaith care, but I have a history of medical trauma and really don’t have the energy to have to wage war to get basic healthcare. Does anyone have experience with the practice and know if I should be concerned? TIA!

Monroe County’s long-running jail dispute is likely to end at the negotiating table rather than at trial, one legal expert said.

Nicholas Almendares, associate professor at Indiana University Maurer School of Law, said  courts may hesitate to force the county to take affirmative action, but it is a potential path to resolution.

“It's not easy for a court or anyone really to tell Monroe County what to do,” he said. “And there's like a million little decisions in there.”

The American Civil Liberties Union filed a federal class action lawsuit against the Monroe County Council, Monroe County Commissioners and Sheriff Ruben Marté earlier this month on behalf of jail detainees, alleging unconstitutional conditions that the organization has pressed the county to fix for nearly two decades.

Almendares said he thinks the most likely outcome is a negotiated settlement in which the ACLU and the county agree on terms before trial.

EDIT: This story has been updated to clarify the 2009 settlement agreement did not include an agreement to build a new jail; rather, both parties agreed to cap the jail population. Federal law restricts federal courts from directing localities to build a jail.

I need to move a gas stove (disconnected) from my house near Bloomington Hardware to a friend’s house about 2 miles away. I also need to have the stove connected on her end and then her non-functioning stove hauled away. How do I find this kind of service in Bloomington? The Commission on the Status of Black Males will host the National Million Father March on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at 8:30 a.m. at Fairview Elementary School, 500 W. 7th Street.

The event is organized locally by the Commission on the Status of Black Males and is part of a nationwide initiative led by Fathers Incorporated. The Million Father March encourages fathers, father figures, and male mentors to accompany students to school during the first week of the academic year.

"The Million Father March reflects the kind of community Bloomington strives to be, one where every child knows they are supported and every family knows they have a village behind them,” said Shatoyia Moss, City of Bloomington Community and Family Resources Director. “By bringing together fathers, mentors, volunteers, educators, and community members, we're creating meaningful connections that extend far beyond the first day of school. These moments of encouragement help foster student success, strengthen relationships, and remind our young people that an entire community is invested in their future.”
