everyone say welcome home worm!!!!!

This is my foster cat, Sasha, and one of her kittens Sashimi. When we first brought her in, she was still pregnant, but now the kittens were old enough to get spayed and neutered and she finally was able to get her eye surgery (and also spay). Her right eye had an entropion but it seems like she can see a lot more now, the left eye unfortunately couldn't be saved. She just wanted to say hi!

My 10 month kitten is already fully blind in one eye and recently it kept getting infected. The vet advised that an entropion surgery had a 70% chance of resolving it or we could prevent it fully by removing the eye altogether. I opted for removing the eye.
She’s now gone for surgery and I’m sitting here questioning if that was the right decision. Does anyone have any experiences with similar situations?

Our gal came to us with very infected eyes. She has been on antibiotics (completed) and drops twice daily. We continue with the drops and there seems to be no changes lately.

Her vet didnt really give a prognosis just to keep the drops up if improving. We lowered the amount and she got worse so we are keeping it going for at least 8 days now with no changes.

She sees around the house like all the rest of the kittens.

Her front left paw doesn't work and when I found her she was a few weeks old but still has her eyes fully shut. She sees shapes but she's definitely blind. Runs right into walls sometimes. She doesn't let her disabilities stop her though! Most energetic ball of fluff you'll ever see. Even knows how to play fetch 😊

Hi everyone, I was hoping to get some advice on how to keep my blind cat entertained and mentally stimulated.

My cat, Toby, is 12 years old and gradually went blind over the last couple of years. He used to live at my parents’ house with two other cats and a dog. He had his own room because he didn’t get along with one of the other cats. Even after losing his sight, he would still go outside most days and somehow always came home when he heard my car pull up after work. Eventually, though, he stopped wanting to go outside and would only venture around the house a little before returning to his room because he was nervous of the other cat.

A few months ago I moved into a spacious ground-floor apartment and decided he’d be much happier as the only pet. Honestly, he’s come out of his shell so much. Instead of sitting curled up in a corner, he sprawls across the sofa and generally looks much happier. I also work from home, so he’s rarely on his own.

Over the past few weeks, though, he’s started showing a lot more interest in going outside again. I’ve taken him out with me a few times under close supervision, and he seems to really enjoy it. The problem is there’s a straight road at the end of my driveway. It’s supposed to be 20 mph, but people regularly speed down it. I just don’t feel I could ever trust him to go out alone without risking getting hit by a car or becoming disoriented.

I did try harness training him, but he really wasn’t a fan, and because he’s such a big cat I struggled to find one that fit him properly.

Lately I feel like he’s becoming a bit restless and possibly bored. I do try to play with him, but because he’s blind he doesn’t really respond if I try to initiate play. He’ll only interact with a toy if he happens to stumble across it himself, and if I move a toy towards him he usually gets startled instead.

Does anyone have any ideas for enrichment or activities that work well for older blind cats? Toys, games, scent enrichment, climbing ideas, puzzle feeders—anything really. He’s still perfectly happy snoozing for most of the day, but I can tell he’s been getting a bit more restless recently and I’d love to make sure he’s as happy and fulfilled as possible.

I’d really appreciate any suggestions from people who have experience with blind cats. Thanks!

Hello everyone! It's been about two weeks since I found this tiny kitten alone on the street, and I wanted to share a new update.

First of all, thank you so much to everyone who donated, shared the fundraiser, or simply sent kind words. Your support has truly made a difference. ❤️

The good news is that there has been real progress. The membrane covering one eye has been cleaned, and the infection is much better than when we first found her.

Most importantly, the right eye now responds to light, which gives the veterinarians hope that some vision may still be saved.

She is still wearing her protective cone and continues to receive treatment every day. She's eating well, resting a lot, and slowly getting stronger. While she's not out of danger yet, she's fighting incredibly hard.

Unfortunately, her recovery is taking longer than we expected, and that also means the veterinary bills continue to grow. I've been covering as much as I can, but I still need help to keep her treatment going.

My 3 year old blind baby Raven (indoor cat) got out of the house and has been missing for 3 days (since Thursday July 19).

She is a super curious kitty and doesn’t usually hide. Every time we’ve moved to a new place she starts exploring and creating a mental map of the house. I have a feeling she is trying to do the same with the endless outdoors. She’s always been very good at responding to her name and always comes when called.

We’ve put up flyers, gone door-to-door asking neighbors to check their garages and backyards and security camera footages, put bin with tons of old litter out on the street, put her cat tree in front of the house, left wet food out, set up cameras pointing directly at her things, gone out between 3-5am calling her, posted on FB/NextDoor/Instagram (even paid for ads via PawBoost), filed reports with the local shelters…

I am just so worried and I miss her so much. I feel like I cannot do anything else until I find her.

Any other tips for what I can do as fellow blind kitty owners? 🥺

Hello again! My name is Isabella, and I recently welcomed a very special cat named Runa into my life. Runa was rescued from a patio in Almería, where she had been forgotten and left without proper care.

With the help of a wonderful rescue shelter, she made the long journey to Madrid and into my home. Unfortunately, after her arrival, I discovered she suffers from a severe case of gingivitis stomatitis, which requires urgent dental surgery. On top of this, she has needed treatment for parasites, a feces analysis and blood tests to check her kidneys.

Normally, I would do everything I could to cover these costs myself. However, just a couple of months ago, I lost my beloved cat Bowie after an unexpected intense illness, and I am still paying off the medical bills from all we did trying to save her life.

Now, Runa’s surgery and ongoing care are more than I can manage alone. The dental extraction alone she needs could cost up to 800 euros, but the final amount will depend on her x-rays and the extent of the surgery.

I am reaching out for help so that Runa can get the surgery and post-op care she desperately needs.

Looking for advice/insight. I’m adopting a a kitten with glaucoma. It is currently being managed with eye drops, is not indicative of FIP and she currently has vision. She is a complete sweetheart. I guess I’m looking to get a sense of how to best manage vet costs and provide her with the best care/life. I have a one floor apt with an older dog, if that helps. She would obviously be an indoor cat.

My cat has been fully blind for about 2 months and it's been a learning curve for the whole household. She's been getting back to "normal" over the past few weeks in incredible ways.

She seemed to be in a peppy mood today so I brought out one of her old toys to see if she'd interact (hence the dust!) and I was so impressed to see that she could still track the ball easily. Nearly brought tears to my eyes. Cats are amazing, she has a happy little life, and every week gets better. Hang in there, new r/blindcats guardians!

My cat Nunu has been recovering really well. He's active (maybe a little too active haha), eating normally, drinking water, and acting like himself.

However, I've noticed that the appearance of his surgery site has changed a bit. At first, it looked like the front part was completely closed, almost as if the brow area was contracted and covering the socket. Now it seems more open at the front, while the deeper part (where the eye used to be) looks closed instead.

I'm wondering if this is a normal appearance for about 17 days after an eye enucleation surgery. Could this change simply be due to the swelling going down and the tissues settling, or should I be worried that the incision is opening?

I am just about to get a blind cat and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions about good things to buy for him. He's a short hair, but it's fairly long-ish. I want a really nice brush/comb. Scratching post? Puzzle food dish? Would that help keep him entertained? Stool to get up onto bed & sofa? Good toys for blind cats? Any suggestions would be very welcome.... I want to give him as good a life as possible. ❤️❤️❤️

Any another question..... I have a tiny garden with wooden fences all round it.

Would these fences in themselves be enough to keep my new friend in the garden?

My cat has already had one eye removed about a year and a half ago. Now he's got a very serious infection out of nowhere in his other eye and the vets warned if we can't get it under control the eye will need to be removed and suggested it might be kinder to euthanize him since he might not adjust to complete blindness.

Obviously I'm extremely worried and the thought of losing him is heartbreaking and overwhelming.

He's about 9 years old, former stray. So I'm wondering anyone had a cat go completely blind as an adult and how well they adjusted? He's already an inside cat at least.
