❓Pangutana Ngano man nga ang mga Bisaya (kadtong tigsulti og Cebuano) dili kaayo hilig magtanom og humay? 🍚

Salamat kaayo!

❓Pangutana “Bayle kita”—grammatically correct ba ni nga sentence construction?

Maayong gabii sa kaninyong tanan! Gusto lang nako ipangutana kon perfectly grammatically correct kining sentence construction:

Bayle kita.

Naay mga mas natural sounding, for example Magbayle ta or Mosayaw ta pero gusto nako gamiton kanang inclusiveness sa word nga kita.

Gamiton apan nako ni sa usa ka poem ug gusto nako ihimo nga mas intimate and inclusive ang invitation nga “Let’s dance” sa Binisaya.

Kabalo ako magbisaya pero gamay ra, so dili lang ko sure kon correct ba ni nga sentence construction.

💬Diskusyon History: The historic population trajectory of Ilonggos and Cebuanos went full reverse

I've read the 1591 Tribute Census of the Philippine archipelago, and in the said year, Cebuanos have a much smaller population than Ilonggos.

The collective population of Bohol, Cebu, Leyte and Misamis de Cagayan (Cagayan de Oro and Misamis Oriental) was 65,000+ individuals. The population of Panay Island at that time was extremely populous, around 108,000+ individuals.

But after three centuries of Spanish rule, it went full reverse. Before, the Cebuano ethnic population was only half of the Panayanon/Ilonggo population, but now, it's full reversed. Ilonggos now only number around 10+ million people, while Cebuanos are the second biggest ethnolinguistic group at 22.5 million people. Now it's the Ilonggos that are half the population of Cebuanos.

Let me know in the comment sections what you think and why this happened.

Can someone explain more context behind this one? I heard it’s for a younger woman. How young? A child or a young adult? Do you say this to your daughter or your girlfriend in her 20s? Guess I’m confused

💬Diskusyon Please guess this popular song

This is a popular Tagalog song that is performed by a well known Filipina singer. Here are the lyrics in Bisaya:

Possible Cebuano translations for "native," "endemic," "invasive," etc.

Kumusta, mga higala! Aduna koy laing linguistic exercise. Unsaon nimo pag-translate kining mga pulong? What do you think of my translations? Salamat in advance sa inyong mga tubag!

  • Native (naturally occurring): lumad
    • Endemic (can’t be found anywhere else): labing-lumad
    • Resident (year-round inhabitant): lumad-mamuyoay
    • Migrant (seasonal inhabitant): lumad-mamalhinay
  • Vagrant (accidentally outside the normal range [e.g., because of a storm]): nasulagma
  • Introduced (through humans [e.g., domestic animals] or natural vagrancy): langyaw
    • Naturalized (assimilated without causing environmental harm): naanaran
    • Invasive (causes environmental harm, outcompetes with natives): mandadangan

Nag-post usab ko sauna og something similar nga nagpa-translate sa IUCN Red List categories ("extinct," "endangered," "threatened," "least concern," etc.). Basin ganahan usab mo mubasa: https://www.reddit.com/r/Bisaya/comments/1p75s5g/binisaya_for_conservation_status_extinct/

Daghang salamat!

💬Diskusyon I feel like ang main reason for the Sara Duterte hate kay iyang bisaya na style haha

Post image
0 Upvotes

I mean BBM also steals alot, heck many politicians now steal in the billions bracket but they're not getting as much flak as her 🤷‍♀️ kung mandaot sila, tanan unta para patas ba haha

> DPWH issues in passing, kung ma dumduman
> PhilHealth in passing gihapon, kung ma dumduman. Like the 14B thing na gikawat sa philhealth and they made false liquidations like P5,000 worth nga walis kuno?
> In the past 4yrs, we have added 4 TRILLION pesos to our debts. And as far as i know, only the President can make loans like that. Sooo where did this 4 Trillion pesos go exactly? These kinds of loans make our country the collateral (we're literally slowly selling away our country, whats the point of our June 12 independence day? Lol)

But the Sara Duterte hate is so passionate everywhere, esp. among the tagalogs haha

❓Pangutana Despite Spanish rule, why didn't the Bisaya vocabulary fully adopted the vowel sounds E/O?

I'm just curious why the Bisaya vocabulary hasn't fully adopted the vowel sounds E/O in its vocabulary, and the primary vowel sounds remain as A/I/U?

At times, Bisaya people still use the E/I and O/U sounds interchangeably. Other lowland languages such as Ilocano, Kapampangan and Tagalog has adopted the E/O sound as permanent vowels in their vocabulary, and there's a clear distinction between the E/I and O/U sound in these languages, that they adopted from Spanish syllabary.

The Central Visayas Region was the first to be conquered and established by the Spaniards, so by the historical logic, it should've absorbed more of the Spanish linguistic syntax in its language.

Thank you so much for anyone who can expound on this. Daghang Salamat.

How do you distinguish "na" and "naman"?

Ang pasabtan sa "na" kay "already" sa English. "Man" = Really.

Dayon, unsa'y ang kalahian sa duha?

Na vs naman

❓Pangutana Need help learning bisaya

Hi I’m trying to learn bisaya, my mother tried to teach it to me when I was a little kid but at the same time she would teach me tagalog and we would watch a lot of tagalog movies together, at some point she stopped teaching me because I started to get confused.

Currently all I know now are some words, as well as some sentences/phrases my mother says to me, but I still get confused between tagalog and bisaya so it’s difficult. I also can’t seem to find many resources to help me learn, I’ve tried to ask my mother about grammar and certain words but she can’t really explain well, there are also some words that have no meaning which makes me even more confused.

I think it would probably be easier for me to learn tagalog since there are a lot of tagalog films and learning material, but I would rather learn bisayan since my mother and everyone from her side of the family speaks it. If anyone has any tips or suggestions on where to find resources, it would be greatly appreciated.

❓Pangutana Help with romantic phrases in Bisaya

Throwaway because my girlfriend knows my actual account

Hi everyone,

My girlfriend's family is Bisaya. I am planning on proposing to her (admittedly not for a while because we're still in college) but I'm writing her a song and want to add some romantic Bisaya phrases. So far I've used Google Translate but I know that's not the most accurate so I'd really appreciate some help.

The phrases I used Google translate for are: ikaw ang kahayag sa akong kinabuhi (you're the light of my life), nahigugma nako nimo sa hingpit (i've fallen in love with you completely)

If someone can tell me how accurate those are or even suggest some other phrases that would be amazing!!

Thanks in advance :)

❓Pangutana Should I get the stuff I gave to my ex?

I have this dilemma.

3 yrs mi sa akong ex.

So ang gagasto sa tanan. Female ko. Both 32.

Mangayo siyag mga botang nga mahal.

Bike

Laptop (2ndhand but high value)

Motor parts

Coffee machine (small lang)

cellphone

Shoes daghan ha

Top box

Etc etc

Most of these stuffs kay gipangayo niya. If diko siya hatagan kay awayon ko niya maayo. So ihatag lang nako para way gubot na.

5 mons nami buwag nuon. Nainsulto kos last convo namo nga ana siya nga dapat mudatong kos laki kay mao ray maka fill in sa pagkuwang nako kay kesyo single mom rako. Which is very insulting kaayo sa akoa. Mura kog gipangwartahan ug nainsulto ko nga dako kaayo siyag ginansya sa akoa for how many years. Excluding pa na mga utang niya sa akoa.

Nahimong Sugar mommy ko niya. Tanga pod ko and i know it.

So, angay ba nako bawion or dili na

Unsay thoughts ninyo

Is Cebuano the same language as Bisaya?

Hi Everyone,

I’m about a week into learning Cebuano and have a question I hope I can have answered.

I’ve read that Cebuano is the same language as Bisaya so I am wondering you anyone can give me an opinion on that?

Is it the same or different dialects?

Thanks 😊

First time nako magka glasses, pwde patabang?

Okay so first time nako magpa glasses. Mao to nakapili nakog frame churva then gi checkup ako mata goods okay. Then nakuha na nako akong glasses. At first okay siya pero while nag work ko, ang gamay nga word mga 2 meters from me kay murag blurry siya so nahibung ko basin sayup ang grado sa lens or unsa. But gi try nako ug bali ang glasses like gituyok nako, so ang left nga lens kay naa sa akong right eye nya ang right nga lens kay naa sa akong left eye. Mas klaro siya! So nagduha2 ko what if nabali lang nila ug butang ang lens? So nibalik ko sa shop.

Karon ila ra gi adjust ang lens daw okay, nangutana ko ili ba giilisan, ana sila wala. Adjust ra daw. Naa daw sila gituyok or something nya wa nako nangutana kay basin samokan sila nako.

💬Diskusyon What Spanish words does Bisaya use that aren't in Tagalog?

I'm just curious because I've heard Bisaya doesn't have as many Spanish loanwords as Chavacano, but it has more than Tagalog, Ilocano, and Bicolano. What are some of these words?
