I live in the Bay Area so don't know much about Big Bear. However, I'll be visiting Southern CA for a week in August and would like to spend a few days relaxing. Is Big Bear a nice area (pretty, charming, fun) similar to Tahoe? We go to Truckee a few times a year and wondering what to expect if we rent a place in Big Bear.

If “Wings of Big Bear” brought you comfort, I hope “She’s Still Here” brings you a little hope today.
This song is for everyone who’s been watching, waiting, hoping, and cheering for Jackie. It’s a reminder that even in uncertain moments, hope still has a place.
Wishing Jackie strength, Shadow steady wings, and brighter days ahead.
❤️🦅 I hope this brings a smile while we all wait together.

I'm looking for a location for a family reunion of 50+ people. They don't all need to be housed in one location, perhaps small cabins around it would be ideal. If anyone can point me in the right direction I would appreciate it. Thank you in advance.

https://savemooncamp.org/story-of-moon-camp/
Jackie of Jackie and Shadow of Big Bear Lake is currently hurt and getting treatment at a rehabilitation facility. Their Habitat "Moon Camp" is at risk of being destroyed. Please donate gneroulsy if you are able, and share far and wide. They are halfway to their goal of 10 million to buy back Moon Camp from the developer. Jackie deserves to return to the environment where she left, not construction, noise and stress. Anyone have any Hollywood connections?

BBLake.
Been to Murrays, hit and miss. Whiskey Daves lacks atmosphere and always seems to be empty. Is anyone familiar with the Moonridge Room?
Dang, I sure miss the Boathouse!!
Thanks!

We’re up here for the week from San Diego. We fish a lot and have never encountered such a tough lake. Arrived on Sunday with a boat. My son caught a small smallmouth right when we launched and I got a trout that came off on a drop shot night crawler over by the damn. Seemed like a great start to the week. Not so much since then. We’ve only had about 6 bites in about 12 hours of fishing and landed 2 trout. At least we’ve caught something. It’s just not anywhere near the premier fishery being advertised. There’s so many weeds and green muck everywhere.
For trout we’re trolling between the bathroom and dam in a big triangle. We have lead line on three rods. Two down 2 colors with a flicker shad and rapala on them. One with a trolling flasher and either a 2” shad power bait minnow or a night crawler down 1 color. One rod with a paddle tail on straight leader. Trolling at 1 mph sometimes and 2mph. We just not getting many bites with that. Our best luck was after dinner. Are we doing something wrong or is the fishing just not that great here?
We thought we’d switch over to carp. I have hair rigs with an egg sinker setup like a short Carolina rig. Using corn and crayfish round balls from the tackle shop. I just have no idea where to throw these and how long they need to soak before being bit. Anywhere we go has so many weeds it doesn’t seem like that’s where we should be throwing them. Any tips for carp locations?
Lots of fish jumping everywhere, all the time in the bay where our dock is. I think they’re carp jumping but I have no idea. AI says it’s trout and bass, but our bay is only 4 feet deep and the water is like 70 degrees. Anyone know what these jumping fish could be and how we could catch those?
We’d love to catch bass here because that’s a lot of what we fish in San Diego. We’ve tried wacky senkos, drop shot roboworms, drop shot night crawlers, and top water poppers. Nothing. Can anyone point us towards some bass?
Thanks in advance for any help you provide. Everyone has been so friendly.

Hey all, first time trying to travel up to big bear, originally from AZ.
Looking at the weather it seems like there's a good chance that its going to be raining this weekend. Would it still be fun to head up there? Any fun activities to do still if the weather isn't perfect? Curious on y'all's thoughts... Thank you!

Does the mountain have anything like the self done opal digging up past Tahoe in Rainbow Ridge?
Geodes, opal, etc? Something other than the staged panning? Real panning would be okay

Anyone with half a brain cell realizes there is no natural explorable limestone cave in Big Bear (It would be a giant tourist attraction). Meanwhile there are dozens of people that claim to have been there and will even fire off some BS story, but can't be enticed, even with a $10,000 cash reward, to show someone where the location is. The fact that ZERO pictures exist of the place is kind of a dead giveaway too. I'm just curious why certain Big Bear locals feel they need to perpetuate a lie to the effect of making up stories about going to a place that doesn't exist.

Hi guys! This will be my first time driving up to big Bear. I am kinda scared shitless but I will try my best to drive like I’m not. I’m coming from the IE and I drive a 23 year old crown Vic. It’s a bit slow on inclines. Does anybody have any tips? I’ve been a passenger so I know the lay of the land. I know to utilize those turnouts too. Also, what might traffic look like from 10am-12 up the mountain on a Saturday?

Jay Obernolte is one of the wealthiest members of Congress. He has said he cares about the eagles and that it is important to protect our wildlife and natural resources.
Yet Jackie and Shadow’s fundraiser is not even halfway to the goal and the deadline is less than a month away. Big Bear is not a wealthy community, but Jay Obernolte is.
Sign the petition to tell Obernolte to save Jackie and Shadow!
