Hey all,
Since it is a returning question, this post might be really convenient if you decide to jump into the wonderful game that Battlefleet Gothic is!
Let us start with a link to the main rulebooks. On the following you will find the remastered rulebook and fleetbook:
Battlefleet Gothic Remastered Rulebook & Fleetbook
One of the great things which has been created at the end of 2021 has been the digital starter kit, this is what you will find in it, but first the link:https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1Kpg6ZuDmFc5axXa6sUBiJrQiFuZIlbAu?usp=share_link
These are the folders:
Assets - All the cardboard markes and extras you need.
Rules - this contains the latest version of the remastered official rulebook (original including updates) and a quick start guide for your first battle! There is an English and German edition.
Fleet Lists - two prewritten fleet lists for the Imperial Navy and Chaos. Plus a sheet how you can pit them against each other in three games increasing in size
3DModels - two folders with the STL files for the ships listed in the fleet lists. So you can print (or let someone print them) to play with. You will also find other STL here like markers.
Please note: those models are distributed under CC-BY-NC-SA, i.e. noncommercial use only.
And in the pdf "How to - Starter Kit " you'll read everything you need to know about the starter kit.
And we have added the starter kit advanced with Corsair Eldar and Orks Looted FLeet!
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1dxTeLC2bTnlUfzN_RJF788wHmYBhMa6C?usp=share_link
Subsequently here is the link to the main rules hub, here you will find the rules mentioned but also links to a large folder of fanmade/homebrew rules and magazines like Warp Rift:
Wait, there is more! If you want some ideas on lists to start with (for collecting) the following article might be a good source of inspiration (check the pdf which you can download with it):
https://portinvicta.weebly.com/bfg-tactics/starter-fleets
But what about miniatures to play with? Aside of the free STL in the mentioned starter kit there are several great designers with STL files available at sites like Cults3d, check the Discord server for a list on them. However, not everyone has his own printer so I list some webshops with great proxies:
https://vanguardminiatures.co.uk/product-category/battlegroup-helios/
https://www.scourgescenics.co.uk
https://wintersbioforge.com/product-category/space-bugs/
https://tabletop-stuff.de/Science-Fiction/Raumflotte-Kolossus/
And finally we have a Battlefleet Gothic Discord with a fun community in case you are interested:
Happy gaming and feel free to ask questions!

Do the space marine ships still get boarding torpedos? They are not listed under armageddon ordinance specifically, so do they loose boarding torpedos bc balance?

So the Hades is 20 more points than the Carnage, and has the same hit points, shields, turrets, even fire power seem mostly the same. Archeon the same at just 10 points more (though I can see it has longer range on its fire power though)
Whats the deal with Heavy Cruisers?

Hi Commanders!
Some of you here might know me; I’m the creator of the BFG-FleetDeck project, faction-specific ships profiles card decks designed to centralize stats, special rules, and upgrade options, while also tracking the status of your prized fleet.
I’ve recently had several requests for generic campaign-tracking cards designed to be sleeved back-to-back with the ship cards. This follows the model I use for Trench Deck (a profile card on the front and a "Campaign" card on the back, allowing you to mark down campaign progress for each ship—such as Leadership gains, crew skills, Chaos marks, refits, etc.).
The issue is: while I’ve been playing BFG locally for years, I’ve never actually played a campaign, so I have no idea if this would be useful to the community or not.
That’s why I’m asking for input from the active gaming community. Would you mind answering a few quick questions (just 4)? I promise, it takes less than a minute!
I’m interested in your feedback -especially if you use my decks but don't need campaign cards or simply aren't interested in that feature.
https://forms.gle/5a5xePwDs8VJfcAx5
And to thank everyone who spares a few precious seconds to help me get a clearer picture, I’ve included a little gift in the form! :)
Thanks in advance to everyone! :)

I've had this image saved on my hard drive for a few years. Lately, getting into BFG myself, I've been interested in printing my own. That bow especially looks amazing, and I would love to digibash it onto anything I can. Big problem is, it seems to be a model that was only available through shapeways before the site went down.
Does any have this .stl or information on who created it? I'd love to buy this mini, even at extra cost if I can contact them.

This little essay is born of a fever dream, so I hope it comes together nicely.
From the earliest days of BFG we've been told that Chaos ships are "older" designs that have fallen out of use, and yet it seems this has never held up; the Emperor Class is the oldest known ship in the setting, various Chaos ships were being built by the Imperium as late as M37, if not later, and several are still being used in Loyalist fleets today.
Previously, I have argued that the change was a combination of shifting doctrine and lack of resources. Chaos ships seem to use more advanced systems that would presumably make maintaining them more difficult, and so the Navy came to favour these slower, more brutish ships that simply plough into the foe and then slam them with short-ranged broadsides. But this still doesn't sit right with me.
Then, as if in a vision from the Omnissiah itself, it came to me. It came so clearly that I had to scramble through my rulebooks and downloads to confirm I hadn't imagined it.
Imperial ships are Martian designs!
The Adeptus Mechanicus fleet list exclusively uses Imperial designs, albeit enhanced with additional Lances, wider access to Nova Cannons, and fitting a variety of experimental toys on board. But at their core, they stick to the Imperial ship layouts: slab-sided gun decks, an armoured prow, ships that are on the slower side, etc. This is not simply the Mechanicus refitting an existing ship for their own purpose, otherwise they would be refitting Chaos ships as well! In fact, if the "Chaos ships are older" idea was true, it'd make even more sense that the Mechanicus would grab those designs for themselves. But they don't.
Now I need to be clear: Imperial ships are not Adeptus Mechanicus designs, or even Mechanicum designs. They are of Old Mars, Mars as it was during the Dark Age of Technology. We know that Old Mars was a technological powerhouse that sent numerous colony fleets out into the void at various points throughout their history, and the Mechanicum did so even during the Age of Strife when the Sol system had effectively collapsed. If the "Imperial" design was the product of the Martian shipyards, it makes perfect sense that the Mechanicum, and later, the Adeptus Mechanicus would model their ships on old Martian patterns.
As for why the two ships look different, see my earlier comment about hoarding the good stuff; the sloped ramming prow of Imperial ships might not be just for removing any religious iconography from the front of the ship, but also to slope the armour and try to get a little more protection out of using inferior materials. A Mechanicus vessel is a floating temple to the Omnissiah; a Navy vessel is simply a tool.
Is there any more supporting evidence for this? Kind of! The Ark Mechanicus Omnissiah's Victory is inspired the Retribution Class Battleship, and the Ark is rumoured to predate the Great Crusade. There's at least one source that states the Retribution is a Heresy era design, so we're on to a winner.
There's also an odd one: the Visions of Heresy artwork for the Vengeful Spirit. The ship in that artwork looks an awful lot like an Imperial ship design, and its lore says it was built on Mars.
So where do the "Chaos" ships come from? I think these are born of rival powers; Terran, Jovian, or Saturnine designs. Let's break down what we know of the other Glorianas and similar ships of that era. While the origins of most are not explicitly stated, and many don't have official art, we have a few to go off:
The Invincible Reason was the first Gloriana built, and it was likely built on Terra or Luna. While the artwork is similar to an Imperial design, it also feels quite different in several key areas; more rounded, almost like a prototype for what the Imperial ships would become. But since we know some Glorianas were built using parts from multiple shipyards, it's possible this ship wasn't built until after the Treaty of Olympus, hence it borrowing some elements of Martian design.
The Pride of the Emperor was built at Jupiter, and it possess the distinctive "Chaos" engine section as well as an Imperial style prow. Another example of blending Martian and Jovian tech, perhaps?
While not a Gloriana, the Terminus Est was built on Luna, and that ship seems to blend Chaos and Space Marine design language. The "mass production" model developed in M36 turned out to be a Chaos design.
We also know that Terra had some truly formidable ship designs: the Promethean and Tiamat class vessels were said to be far more advanced than anything else the Imperium possessed, both being Terran designs going back to Old Night.
With all of this in mind, I think we finally have a solid, satisfying answer to this age old question. Navy ships are predominantly Martian designs, and Mars prefers to build Martian ships. They did build others, but one would assume that the Ark-established Forgeworlds would have taken with them Martian STC libraries, meaning the Martian pattern would be common across all Forgeworlds where the competing styles would not. Following the Heresy, the Adeptus Mechanicus still produced Terran, Jovian, and Saturnine pattern ships for various groups (the former seemingly going mostly to Space Marines), but many fleets would either be supplied by Forgeworlds who cannot build a Jovian style Cruiser... or don't want to. Martian patterns are naturally a more holy design, after all.
Do drop a note in the comments if you find anything that supports or refutes this insane theory of mine. But for now, this is my headcanon and I'm sticking with it.

Can all ships with launch bays use shark attack boats or not? Im guessing not as in the defiant cannot launch them.
Also why might assault boats be better than fighters or bombers??

I am currently looking for a picture from the DS9 dominion war game. It was a picture of all the ships in the game look down on top of them. It also had them separate by factions. It was something I had a back when I was younger but I have nice lost that computer and can't seem to find again. Thanks for any help.

I have a STL file for a battle barge and want to know what to scale it to. Does anyone what the size for the battle barge miniature? Or STL to compare it to?

I’ve spent the last couple of weeks painting up 4 starter fleets (4000ish points?) and some terrain for a bunch of new players to BFG.
This is my second event with this group, this time leading scenario two “the bait”.
I’m really thrilled with how much my local community are getting stuck into the game.
It’s fun to watch players (even experienced players of 40K etc) be cautious at the start, feeling off balance with the amount of roll tables and dealing with firing arcs…
…and then by about turn 2 or 3, the game suddenly *clicks*, and players speed up and start playing more confidently and more aggressively until…
“So how does ramming work?”
Looking forward to the next event ☺️

So I’ve been reading through the rules for some homebrew and one of my ships has a nova cannon, now naturally I go to look at the rules for it and I understand how all but one part of its rules work, the scatter die. Firstly, nowhere does it say what kind of die this scatter die is, and I can’t find any reference to it anywhere else. Secondly, the rules say that if the scatter die roles a hit the template remains where placed, but what is it rolling against, what role counts as a hit? Could somebody give me some clarification?

The Orks were in pursuit of an isolated Hiveship, on some kind of whaling mission; but the Tyranids sprang an ambush. After crippling a Hiveship and blowing through some escorts, the Orks were forced to disengage.
Victory to the Tyranids.
Also, check out my mate Andrew's Orks, they're sick.
Highlights include:
A absolute banger, I love this game.

What does Turns “Special” mean for Jokaero ships? Does it simply mean they don’t have to turn at all because they have no front, port, starport and back sides. Or do they behave like Roks? I also suppose they don’t use a critical hit table but suffer +1 hit instead?
The page before is only lore and the next page is already the first page of the Squats fleet.

Lost in the warp (back of the shed) for nearly a whole millennia (about 8 years).
I have some Chaos also but some in for refits.

Quick rules question.
Massive Claws and Feeder Tendrils both have a forward fire arc, but the rules for them just specify that they're used when the ship moves into base contact, no mention of arcs.
Does the Tyranid vessel have to make contact with their forward arc specifically, or will any base contact do?
Rules as written are a bit vague, since firing arcs only mention shooting, and claws/tendrils don't target anything.
Any suggestions?

Hi all! I've finally got around to posting my Space Orc Battleship design.
This was a originally commission from a discord user (who is fine with me selling the design), and it was actually delivered to them months ago, but other work kept getting in the way of me publishing it for sale.
I've not done orks before (or since) so it was a real learning experience (mainly leaning about armour plates and rivets lol), and I think it came out really nice! It's also technically the only Eldar work I've done as well.
r/battlefleetgothic • u/Oaksandtea • 10d ago
I'm looking to expand my terrain for the game and there are lots of excellent Imperial stations and wonderful Tau orbital cities but I can't find many Eldar themed ones. I've seen the name Havenspire appear a few times but can't seem to locate an STL, does anyone know a source?
