Glen was in the Dazed and Confused sequel 10 or so years ago that Richard Linklater (obviously) directed, so they have some familiarity with each other.

Also in Hit Man too

It's a spiritual successor to Dazed and Confused, not really a sequel. Great movie though.

It's not exactly a sequel. None of the same characters. But it's the same type of hangout movie except college baseball instead of high school football. And set in 1980 rather than the 70's.

I like both, but I think it's better than Dazed and Confused.

If he gives Lou Gerhig's story the same treatment he gave Lorenz Hart's in Blue Moon, it'll be a real treat. Gerhig will also probably appeal to more people than a WW2-era Broadway biopic.

Linklater's films fall anywhere between fine to amazing in my experience, so I'm excited despite not being the biggest Powell guy. We so rarely get good baseball movies anymore

I love the movie Pride of the Yankees and love Gary Cooper, but this time I hope they make sure the actor playing Gehrig actually looks like he knows how to play baseball.

It's Linklater dude, there almost certainly will be actual baseball played in the movie. Check out his last baseball movie, dudes actually play and play well. One of the pitchers in the movie is actually a former college player who's the brother of Huston Street, a big league pitcher.

I agree that he's maybe a bit milquetoast for the push he has been getting, but he was at least serviceable in Twisters and The Running Man.

Pessimistically I don’t think people today find Gehrig to be as special as we used to. Hard work and humility aren’t exactly selling at an all time high right now, lol.

(Gehrig is my all time favorite player of any sport, I think he was an absolute top-shelf example of humanity)

I love both.

The only one that is probably really bad imo is actually a baseball movie: his Bad News Bears.

I think it's really bad but I don't know if I begrudge it being such a facile, toothless remake however, and perhaps it's not that bad if graded purely on its own. Not eager to rewatch to find out.
