Tour Guides

If I'm visiting town just for a couple of days and I want to see highlights - Bar Harbor, Acadia, 'Derry', etc. Are there any full day tour guides for a weekday booking?

I looked on Trip Advisor but didn't see anything in Bangor, on Bar Harbor.

Anyone have any tips on how to read these schedules?!

I am using the website and the app (which, super cool that there is an app!)

I want to use our public transportation but it seems like only a genius can interpret the difference between the schedules and the live maps and the fact that not all the stops are listed on the schedules....am I crazy and this is super easy or can someone please help?

Hello, I originally made a post about watching the World Cup in Bangor, but now we’re staying in Orono and I’m wondering if anyone knows of any sports bars that will be showing the match today?

Is it gross?

I’m staying at the Vacationland Inn next week and I’m wondering if it’s gross? I’ve heard mixed reviews and was hoping to get opinions from people who’ve been there.

Waxing recommendations?

Looking for a good place that does Brazilian waxes and would be comfortable for somebody who hasnt had waxes done before. Recently had an injury that restricts some positions a little bit (thats why im seeking out brazilian, since its hard for me to shave), so bonus if they're understanding and accommodating of that :)

Transplants from other states, are you happy you moved?

Seems to be a lot of mixed opinions about Bangor in the sub. ā€œDystopian hellholeā€ to ā€œnah it’s pretty nice.ā€ If you moved from other areas, what’s your opinion? Where’d you come from? Why did you choose Bangor? Do you feel welcome? Bonus points for middle age family folk.

I made a subreddit a while ago to air out complaints for the Bangor area. It's quiet in there if anybody wants to let off some steam. r/bangormainecomplainin

Used tires

Anyone know of a spot in the area who will take used tires? I have a set of four snows that have only seen a couple winters; they just don't fit the new car, unfortch.

I already called Wayne's/Dean's in winterport and no dice.

Moving to, good or bad!

Hi guys! Im a 23 year old girl with 4 cats who’s apart of the LGBTQ community. I work as a daily living support specialist, and I’ve lived in Maine my whole life. Portland is too expensive, and I’m tired of my run down little town up north. I’ve heard good things and I wanted to inquire more from people who have spent a lot of time there or currently live there. Is it a good place to live? How’s the night life? Is it just like every almost city town in Maine, or does it have some good perks? Any comments welcome!

Just Moved Here - Tryna Make Friends

I’m literally too embarrassed to post this on Facebook, and even there, there’s no real forum for it. Please delete if not allowed.

I’m 21 F, (22 on the 15th yay) and I just moved up here from Downeast Maine. For moving from such a small populated town, I think this has been the loneliest I’ve ever been haha.

I’m just wondering if anyone has any good advice on how to actually connect with people around here.

I know we border a huge college town, but I am a recent graduate (minus student teaching.) so trying to make college friends doesn’t seem too plausible with how little I’d even be around there. It’s been tough. I’m sure some of you get it.

I’ve tried the Friend apps and all that. So this is kinda my outreach. Thank you for any advice.

Local IT opportunities

Hi! I’m about to move from Florida to Bangor for the next 8 months for a IT Support contract with a business there. I’ve always wanted to move to Maine so I’m very excited for this experience! I’m wondering how the local IT market is there? Incase I was to stay past my contract. Also, anyone have a good suggestions on a coffee shop?

Apartment help?

Good afternoon, y’all!

My son will be a senior this upcoming year. I just retired as a teacher here in New Mexico. We are done with living here and looking to do something totally different. We are packing and headed to Maine.

I have reserved a UHaul and let my landlord know we are leaving at the end of July. We are leaving.

My half-sister is headed to Vermont. One uncle lives in New Hampshire (not my political vibe). My other uncle/aunt/cousins live in Boston (too expensive, too busy). Maine seems a good fit and this is the family I have left.

Here is the problem. I am working on getting my teacher’s license in Maine, but so is everyone else right now (I qualify for an initial license). I don’t have a job yet and why would they hire me when I am 2500 miles away?!? I will either get a job when we get there, sub or do something else.

I also don’t know how much I will make in retirement money for sure. I can use their site to estimate but getting a paper from anyone about this won’t happen anytime soon. The state office told me in May it would take 3-6 months to get an estimate and I plan on starting to get the retirement money in October so there was no point in that.

We have money in savings but I have no job yet or proof of income. So I have been looking at housing on Facebook and Craigslist. All we need is a 2 bedroom that allows cats.

I can find plenty of them (yes, it is expensive and I know heating costs will be awful—I am originally from Chicago) but I have no idea what kind of neighborhood these places are in. We are moving from a pretty terrible town (check out Espanola, NM on YouTube to see what I am talking about) and I don’t want to move 2500 to do the same.

Can y’all help me figure out which neighborhoods I should avoid? Thanks!

Need new vet recommendations

The vet I have been going to has been bought up by a bigger company, which I expect will raise the costs. Incase this happens, Id love some vet suggestions that are in or around Bangor.

Thanks!
