For me it's easily earplugs, real ones, because I ignored that advice for years and my ears have never forgiven me. Second place is a collapsible water bottle; the number of people I see melting in line with nothing to drink is genuinely wild. I know the answers are gonna be a mix of the obvious and some clever stuff I've never thought of, which is exactly what I want. New heads lurk these threads before their first show, so let's actually make it useful for them. What's your one non-negotiable, and what's the story behind why it earned the spot?

I am from India living in Germany (NRW) and I would love to get my first rave experience. I have always been so interested in rave culture, never had a chance to experience it. I looked on the internet there have been non entry for auslanders/Indians in clubs. I'm not daring to get my first bad racism.

Hey guys! Long story short I’m in AZ but will order from anywhere. My wife and and her best friends couple are all huge into the scene and set up raves in our house with all the lights, lasers, tapestries, you name it!

For my wife’s birthday I want to make her a custom UV reactive tapestry with her best friend and herself on it. This will be tasteful BUT these photos will be nude. I have consent from all parties, there are no laws against it, and literally just need an amazing person to make this piece of art come to life!

Does anyone know of any vendors or anyone that would be able to pull this off?

I've only seem them at one festival (not that I've been to every festival, but I've been to a decent amount) and they were calling them shadow boxes. Essentially just a big screen with a projector behind that you dance in front of, and all the people out front see your shadow, they were so cool to both watch and dance behind. When I've been searching for them its mostly kids crafts/activities that come up. Sorry for the crummy images, I screenshotted the re-cap video cause I couldn't find any other good images. I know there’s a bunch of posts like this so apologies in advance for any repeat discussion.

For context: I live in an area where there are a lot of edm events; conscious dance parties, less-conscious, festivals, concerts, contact improv, everything you can think of.

When I first started coming to these spaces 3-4 years ago, I treated it a lot more like an “outlet” - getting some energy out, maybe some imbibing of substances, and ultimately wasn’t really looking to ‘connect’ with people. Sometimes it happens organically but ultimately I was just enjoying the music and the freedom of expression. I have a friend who gets straight up annoyed when there’s a ton of talking on the dance floor.

But as I’ve started to meet a few people and seen some smaller more intimate events, I have become much more interested in the community aspect and I’ve gotten some things out of my system so I’ve started to show up a little more conscious and intentional, and curious as I continue to see some familiar faces.

I’m wondering if anyone would be willing to share some advice around; striking up connections at dance events, initiating dance with others (men or women), and enjoying the more social side rather than just being in my own world.

I’m not saying it’s different than anywhere else necessarily but for me personally - it’s always loud and hard to hear, I find myself behaving in a slightly closed off way with others- even if not on purpose, and ultimately something about it feels like I get stuck in my head about; do I jump into deeper conversation topics? Stay surface level? How do people create more authentic and genuine connection in this context. I feel like I’m putting off a good vibe and am not out here only looking for hook ups or anything, because most of the time it starts off pretty natural between me and others, i just don’t know where or how to lead it to a better connection necessarily.

One thing is for sure; I need to stop shaking people’s hands and stick with hugs 😂
