⭐ review The Odyssey - Film & Score

Has anyone else seen The Odyssey here? I definitely had Autechre vibes in places with the score - the sound of clashing metal type sounds. I wonder if Rob and Sean have seen it? Anyway, it's very, very good. The score seems to drift between genres of music. Whilst I have seen average reviews for the score, I thought it suited the film itself brilliantly.

Giving away two tickets. Going to other stops instead of Milan. Only requirement is to have a dice account apparently.

🎙️ interview Sean Booth on the importance of Kraftwerk for his adolescence in Manchester

Post image

"I grew up with Kraftwerk. The first track I owned was ‘Tour De France’. It was my favourite electro track. Another one was ‘Clear’ by Cybertron. Tangerine Dream and John Carpenter were all in there as well. I hated most things with singing on or anything with a song structure. I just wanted the beats and there was loads of them about. It was ubiquitous. At the time you either bought a Street Sounds album or you were listening to Stu Allen on the radio. Manchester was a bit of an island for American dance music full stop. There were obviously scenes in other places, but here we used to get exposed to that culture all the time. When I moved to Sheffield a few years later I found that they had been not into hip hop at all, but funk and reggae. It was so different from Manchester and not that far away. It was like another dimension.

[...]

Originally, when I was younger, I would be editing tracks from other peoples cassettes using the pause button. People talk about the warmth of analogue but I think warmth is a strange concept. I would like someone to explain the concept to me! I tend not to inherent descriptive terms I can’t understand. That term warmth is a little bit weird if it does exist. I once heard Kraftwerk described as cold, but they are anything but. Kraftwerk are not just funky, their sound is amazing – like a weird, rotating, magic puzzle box from the future. Just an amazing most pristine, perfect sound. Just beautiful."

It is worth reading the entire interview with Sean:

Oversteps Help ID this track — tagged as "See On See" but it's not

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hello, I've got an mp3 that's tagged as Autechre – See On See (Oversteps, 2010), complete with the correct Oversteps cover art embedded. But it's only 3:14 long (not 4:37), and after listening to the whole album, it's definitely not actually "See On See" or any other track on Oversteps. Tags/art seem to be wrong or auto-generated somewhere along the way and maybe it's not even an Autechre track after all, thanks!

Confield A Journey Into The Labyrinth

Hi everyone, new here. I’ve always considered myself a mild autechre fan. Always loved Amber, Tri Repetae, and some other songs I’ve heard here and there but felt most of their later stuff was too inaccessible and daunting for me despite never giving it a real shot. So I decided to rectify that and I’ve spent the last few weeks listening to their LP discography in order and it’s been a truly mind blowing experience. I’m kind of in awe of everything they’ve achieved, and the sheer volume of it.

I just finished Exai and kind of feel like I need to stop and take it all in, revisit my favorites, and tackle elseq and the NTS sessions later with fresh ears. But I also wanna finish what I started haha.

Anyway, there’s no real point to this post other than to say it took me decades but I get it now.

My favorites so far besides the ones mentioned are Confield, Exai, Oversteps, and LP5.

Quaristice Basic Unit

so you've heard Basic Channel. you may have heard Basic House. you've heard G-Unit. you may have heard Girl Unit.

well, this gem from 1998 finally made it onto my radar. not sure how i went without it for so long. maybe and probably it's super popular, but it doesn't come up in a search.

Timeline by Basic Unit. i think any fans of Quaristice and beyond will really appreciate this album. i'd say it's almost the drum n bass version of the kind of de/reconstructed thing Ae do.

Going to a show.

Hi everyone, I am thinking about going to an Autechre show, it would be my first concert ever, I’ve never been to any live music event in my life.

I’m especially curious about the audience. What do people usually do during the show? Do people dance? Do people just stand and listen? Many people describe their shows as more of a “collective listening experience” than a typical electronic music gig.

I’ve never been to a concert since big and energetic crowds and lots of energy sound uncomfortable to me and I don’t feel like I’d enjoy this experience at all. I’m hoping that Autechre show is more of a listening experience.

Thanks
