Anybody ever wish they didn't see a movie based on a book because listening or reading the book forces you to imagine all the characters like the movie or TV series?

Upvotes

I'm listening to The Hobbit, and thinking that before the movies were made, my imagination of the characters was far more organic. I first read The Hobbit in '77.

Technical Question Chuck Wendig's Book of Accidents

Does anyone happen to know how much of the book is narrated by Xe Sands vs George Newbern?

Is there a site that details that kind of granular information?

Which fiction audiobooks left you with real-life knowledge or wisdom?

I’m looking for fiction that makes you go, „Huh, I actually learned something from that.“
Books that sneak real-world knowledge into a good story - science, tech, engineering, math, biology that kind of thing. (Not in the direction of history, philosophy, psychology or self improvement)
English or German suggestions very welcome

Technical Question Audible on MP3 player

Hi all,

I just had my first child, and among all the other things I’m worrying about, I find myself worrying about his digital use.

Growing up, books on tape were my entry point into reading. I was a very energetic kid and sitting down to read just didn’t click with me until I’d already developed a love of stories through tapes. I want to give that same experience to my son, but I don’t want him to have an internet connected device until he’s in his teens at least (if I can help it). I was thinking about getting a simple MP3 player for him and loading music and books on myself, but I’ve been using the mobile app and smartphone so long I’m not sure if it’s possible to have the books on a “dumb” device without an app.

I know it used to be possible because I did it back before the app was a thing at all, but these days not sure.

Any tips appreciated.

Sales & Bargains Price Hack - Cheaper if you borrow the eBook thru KU first

PSA! For those that have KU … I’ve noticed a pattern that the price of audiobooks on Audible decreases (often to like $5 USD) if you borrow the ebook on KU first!

Probably not always the case but has happened a good amount of times for me so I wanted the share!

Recommendations for Space War books with no aliens?

I'm looking for audiobooks that have a space war (i.e. a war in space), but where the conflict is purely humans v humans (and ideally no aliens involved at all). Idk, I'm just not as interested in conflicts involving aliens. If there's mechs that would be a nice bonus, but I'm fine without.

Edit: I have already read and enjoyed red rising.

Any recommendations would be good.

Is -55% off a good deal?

I’m new premium user on Audible UK so I don’t have great acknowledgment of Audible’s sales. I have read that there’s big sales two times a year so I wonder should I wait for that? Or buy a book now from the monthly sale, it’s -55% off so price is 3.99 GBP. I just wonder could it be even cheaper if I wait for those big sales?

I understand that this particular book might not be on sale later but overall I want to know is it better to wait for bigger sales or is -55% off already a good deal?

Recommendation 6 credits to spend - which audiobooks worth it?

I’m an avid reader who mostly reads nonfiction, but I started using audiobooks to explore other genres and have listened to a few fiction titles so far.

I now have 6 Audible credits to spend and would love recommendations for genres other than non-fiction that offer the complete package: an engaging story, excellent narration, memorable characters, and strong entertainment value.

I’m open to most genres, especially books where the audio experience adds something special. Which six would you choose?

Book Discussion I’m looking for recommendations for books included in the plus catalog!

I feel like I don’t really utilize the Plus catalog enough, and I’d like to get the most out of my subscription considering the cost.

I mostly read/listen to fiction, but I’m open to non-fiction books.

I read a lot of fantasy, sci-fi, historical fiction, and romance, but I’m open to all recommendations.

App (iOS) Take a bookmark in read & listen mode

I like the read & listen mode in the iOS app but how do I bookmark on the text screen?

(I bought the Kindle and Audible versions of book from Amazon today but the Kindle iOS app is not giving me the option to download the audio.)

App (iOS) Why is the sync between my mobile and pc so horrible

This might sound a bit like a rant because it is.

But about 4/10 times when i stop listening to an audiobook on my pc and try to resume my listen phone it just sets my listen time back HOURS to what i was.

I asked some of my friends who also use audible on multiple devices if they have the same issue, but most of them either don't have it as pronounced as i do or just "remember where they were at".

I don't know what to do I'm so done with this. i cant always remember what chapter number i was on especially when they don't have chapter titles. It's so frustrating trying to stop listening on my pc and then wanting to continue on my phone while doing house work or something else or vice versa.

I am already always reloading my phone app before resuming my books because that helps it force reload to my last location but even that is so inconsistent.

Is there anything that i can do to help with it synchronizing properly? I feel like I'm the only one having this issue so heavily.

Need help

Audible charged me April 16, and May 16 for 16.50 each. They wouldn’t help me because I was not able to name the name on the account that stole my card information. I never shared my card information and my card stayed on me at all times, I’m not sure how my card information was stolen. Disputing with my bank didn’t work so I called audible back, and now they’re saying they can’t find the account that caused it.

So Bummed bc I purchased both Audible and ebook so I can listen while reading, and then found out I can't do both on my Kindle Device!

I have ADHD and listening while reading a book has completely changed the game for my focus. Unfortuantely, I can't do both on my kindle device. And I know I can do both on my iphone with the app, but I never liked using that because the screen is tiny and I am already used to, and love, the screen of my kindle signature paperwhite. What are my options then? I wonder if they will ever allow immersion reading on the actual device- seems such common sense to make work.

Audible Ai spoiled plot point

Im pretty upset, as I bought a book in a series I was enjoying on audible, and when scrolling down to read reviews the UNWANTED Ai summary spoiled a MAJOR plot point. It was very frustrating. Has anyone found a way to turn it off?
