Announcement The question mark must be in the TITLE

Since I am getting modmail on a daily basis with people saying they put a question mark, I wanted to clear something up.

The question mark must be in the TITLE! Not in the body of the text, not lying on your desk under some paperwork. In the TITLE. The automod message you receive when your post is rejected clearly states this.

This submission has been automatically removed because you did not include a question mark ("?") in your title. Reddit does not allow post titles to be edited, so if you would like, you can post the question again. Please write your title in proper question format, and include a question mark, thank you.

Is car culture ruined? Got insults for driving a new WRX

I'm 23 years old and I finally got to get a taste of being in the car scene. I bought myself a 2026 Subaru WRX recently, and it drives way different from my Corolla. However, I get more "you should have bought x car" comments than compliments.

Sometimes I wonder if there was a shift in society revolving around cars. I was talking to my dad recently about his first sports car which was a brand new 2002 Mustang GT, he said those were hot back in the day and he got a lot of compliments from strangers anywhere he goes. I don't think getting a current Mustang GT or GT500 gives you that anymore, but I may be wrong.

Was there a change in the car scene? I don't think this would've happened if I did this back in the 2000s or 2010s.

Is properly test driving a vehicle before deciding to purchase a dying practice ?

Are fewer consumers deciding whether or not to purchase a particular vehicle based on the results of a test drive? Are they prioritizing their desire for a particular brand/model or on non-driving related factors like technology, features, and reliability and no longer particularly care how it drives?

Hypothetical question, would you be able to empty a full tank just by revving on neutral/park and if you could how long would it take?

Best value purchases with $295 Advance Auto Gift Card?

I completely forgot to return an expensive $296 ball joint press rental to advance auto, fortunately got merchandise credit.

Problem is, it's harder to use than expected, since everything is so much more expensive compared to Walmart, Costco, Rockauto, etc. I drive a 2004 Acura TSX

For example, I want to change my front rotors sometime in the next 6 months, warped/pseudo warped but have life. Bosch quietcast rotors and pads are just $130 shipped. Even with july 20% discount, two carquest basic rotors and pads are the same price for a far inferior product.

Any products closer to real retail price worth buying from Advance auto online?

Not in a huge hurry to spend it, just curious.

General Question What is something about a car that you didn't think was cool until you found out?

Did you think maybe it was a marketing ploy or it was a needless feature, but after trying it, you now consider it an essential to have with every car you drive?

Are all 3 row SUV’s shit now?

Edit. Since everyone says get a minivan or you got a micro penis, I’m adding points to save you time.

• I didn’t ask if I should get a minivan nor did I ask what type of vehicle should I get.

  1. NOT ANTI MINIVAN
  2. I need ground clearance to access a sportsman’s club. Yes, there are many places in it that aren’t accessible for a minivan. I have seen people fuck up their vehicles. AWD crossovers included.
  3. I rent minivans when we go on longer trips and love them for that purpose.
  4. Again. I am not anti minivan.
  5. I do not have a micro penis and need not a minivan to validate my worth.
  6. My entire driving life I drove a Camry or smaller until my Tundra.

  7. I get it. Your wife pegs you and tells you to drive the minivan while she’s drives an Escalade and you have deep rooted hatred in your soul because of it. I’m truly sorry for you and wish you help.

Ok. Now continue to tell me get a minivan….

Currently in a 2020 Tundra with 60k miles on it. Wife just bought an XC90 T8. Fantastic road vehicle and the plug in miles are perfect for her daily work commute.

However, Just came back from a 7 hour road trip and my two heathens (8&15) were less than happy with the comfort in the back. Both of their feet on my center arm rest the entire way.

On the flip side, rented a Grand Wagoner for a different trip with my 15 year old niece added in and not a peep, space galore, and overall great ride. Not a ride like the XC90 of course due to sheer mass but two different animals.

So of course that opened the door to a new more comfortable vehicle. I work from home so gas is not a huge factor but both kids play travel baseball/softball and for the most part we divide and conquer.

The more I research the more unsettling it gets. GW is trash. GM’s are blowing up. Toyota has their reliability issues and not thrilled with the sequoia comfort. Armada/QX80 seem ok so far and the Expedition seem to be getting a lot of love.

If I stick with a truck the Ram Would happen. Drove a Tungsten and my lord. Loved it and the rear reclining seats and legroom should be enough for the animals (kids).

Confident the standard length models would accommodate 85% of the time and likely 3rd would always be down for cargo.

Leaning GW with extended warranty but still hear so many horror stories.

Should I buy my dad’s Tahoe?

Hey yall, I have been given a proposal by my dad recently as he wants to upgrade his vehicle and get a pickup truck. He currently has a 2015 Chevy Tahoe with 150k miles on it. I currently drive a 2003 Chevy Monte Carlo LS with 124k miles on it. He said he’d be willing to sell me his Tahoe for 7500 dollars as it would be more reliable to drive to and from campus as I am a college student. I’m am hung up on this as I haven’t had any major issues with my Monte Carlo and I hear that specific year of Tahoe is unreliable once it’s reached over 150k. I am also in a situation with school that I am able to pay the monthly payments he is asking for but I would rather not have to worry about paying 250 a month on top of saving money to pay my ubill.

General Advice What is the best way to retrieve a copy of a title when the owner has passed away?

Hoping this is okay to ask here -- my mama passed away a year after her cancer diagnosis and wanted my older sister who lives out of state to take her car, which is all paid off. I had assumed that it would be in the car dashboard so I never thought it would end up being an issue but I haven't been able to find it there or anywhere in her important documents file holders.

My friends had no answer for me, and googling has been more of a rabbit hole than straight forward answering. Is there a non-convoluted way to obtain a copy of the car title?

Would a 17x7.5 rim fit on a 17x7 platform?

Upvotes

I got 2014 Honda accord rims for free and I’m wondering if they fit on the 8th civic. The Accord wheels are 17x7.5 and the civic wheels are 17x7. They’ve got the same bore for hub and same bolt pattern. I’m wondering if with stock suspension they’ll just bolt right on no problem. My aunt has got the HPD wheels for that generation and I’ve had some sources say they’re 17x7.5 which would be a quick answer of it fits without a doubt but I’ve also had a few saying they’re 17x7. So that’s kinda where I’m stuck at and hoping yall could answer

General Advice Is the Suzuki grand vitara 2014 really as uncomfortable as everyone says?

I’ve heard a lot of things about Suzuki Grand Vitaras being uncomfortable when driving longer journeys, I plan on looking at one as a first car, and would be doing long ish trips and green laning as I’m in the UK, would you recommend one? I’ve also seen a Subaru Forester 2009, would that be better? Both would be going in some off road tracks, and carry a bit of kit and do regular short trips but longer ones too, but what is going to be best in your guys opinion? Thank you!!

General Question At what point should I be looking to replace my 2019 Nissan Rogue sport ?

I currently own a Nissan Rogue Sport with 140K miles. I’ve owned the car for about 5 years and at this point, I feel that I might as well keep the car till the wheels fall off. I know within the next year or so, I should probably look for a new car because my current one has a whole lot of miles.

How many miles do you think my Nissan can last before I have to get a new car ?

Do you like my Magazine?

Hi everyone!

I'm 16 years old and over the past few weeks I've designed and printed an independent magazine about Lamborghini.

I'm not affiliated with Lamborghini and I'm not trying to advertise it. I'm simply looking for honest feedback from car enthusiasts and designers.

What do you like?
What would you improve?
Would this be something you'd actually pick up and read?

What’s causing my thermostat to not read?

I have a 2011 Chevy Malibu lt. The thermostat stopped reading so the obvious fix was replacing it. Replaced it, burped the coolant, blowing hot air so the heater core is working but it’s not reading temp again.(It was reading temp as long as I kept the a/c on heat until it got to operating temp then I could blow cold)But if I started the car running cold air the thermostat would kick off. Thinking it could be the ECT sensor since there’s no check engine light on.

General Question Drive experiences like the GT4?

Looked at a 16 GT4 today, it was a bit out of my budget at 128k out the door with 40k miles. Are there any cars you guys recommend that are cheaper and still give that experience? I’ve been considering the 4c and Elise.

New engine for old Mitsubishi Lancer?

I have a 2004 mitsubishi lancer LS. I've had it forever and only have about 140 miles on it. Recently the timing belt broke (this had been replaced on the car several years ago) and the engine is gone. My mechanic is saying $2500 to 3000 all in to replace the engine.

Is there any scenario where it makes sense to do this? It's more than the value of the car. The car drives pretty well and I don't know of any other issues. We put in new breaks and ties last year. But it's of course a 22 year old car so maybe best to just move on?

General Question Should I finance a Kia K5 at 21?

How dumb of a purchase would it be to finance a 2024 Kia K5 GT with 24,000 miles on it? Price on CarGurus is $29,000. I got approved for $25,000 loan through a credit union. I would be willing to put down some money. Would this be a huge mistake?
I’m 21 years old for reference- I know people are gonna give me trouble because I “don’t need a newer car”

First Car?

I'm 18 and my dad wants to buy me my first car. I'm trying to get into the car scene, so I mark down some reliable old cars but my dad refuses to buy anything under the year 2020. So instead, through blood sweat and tears I've narrowed it down to these cars of which he approves and I need serious help on which to pick. If you have any suggestions for other cars, please lmk (only manuals) !

General Advice Car Buying Advice Please?

Hi all - I’m a single 30 year old guy (no family or kids) and looking to buy my first car (been living in nyc). I would really appreciate everyone’s advice here because threes so many options and I’m all over the place! The only things I want are cars that have wireless CarPlay, a nice touch screen, leather seats, AWD for snow in the northeast and will last 5 years and 80k miles. Here’s the cars I looked at and am seriously considering. Would love to hear your thoughts!

New Kia K5 GT-line - I love the interior and how it looks. Very sporty and great technology. This is also about $32k so the cheapest car on this list. My only worry is it’s a Kia but I saw people said they are better now? Also I saw insurance rates are high because these are stolen like crazy (or attempted to be stolen because of Kia boys).

Used 2023 Lexus ES 250 AWD - this is luxury and quiet ride. Looking at around 20-30k miles which comes out to $35-$37k. Nothing else to say here.

New Toyota RAV4 XLE Premium - this seems to be the hot car right now and one that I assume will have amazing resale value. I found this at MSRP ($39k) but only thing that worries me is road noise. Still, knowing it holds its value is very attractive to me.

New Honda CRV EXL - unlike the RAV4, this is the gas version. Cheaper than RAV4 at $36k. Honestly drove this and the RAV4 and didn’t notice a difference. Leaning RAV4 just because of resale value.

Used 2023 BMW 3 series - I would buy this car if it wasn’t for the high maintenance cost. I called a bmw dealer and replacing engine mounts ($3000-5000), brakes ($3k) and transmission fluid ($1800) moved this into the $10k range just for maintenance before I even hit 100k miles. The one I’m looking at has 36k miles and sells for $31k.

Used 2025 Crown Signia - this seems like an upscale pick which costs about $40k. However, these seem to depreciate fast for a Toyota.

As you can see, I have a wide array of options so could really use your help! What would you do? In case it matters, I won’t be financing (paying cash) so interest rates don’t matter to me. This is truly what’s the best car. I’ll be in the northeast (Mass) which is snowy but near Boston. Thanks for your help!

General Question Should I buy this 2008 Nissan Altima 3.5SE?

Should I buy this car off Facebook marketplace?
I found a 2008 Nissan Altima 3.5 SE on marketplace, it has almost 200,000k miles and he says it might need rear motor mounts done. The paint isn’t in the best condition but that doesn’t really bother me. I’ve never owned a Nissan before so I was thinking let’s give it a try, he only wants $1200 for it and I haven’t tried talking him down at all yet. What do you think? Thoughts opinions I’m really torn on this one.
