Manhattan With Handmade Frame

I didn't start from a face to later hide it. I started from an impression -

vague, almost a memory - and built on top of it, mark by mark, until

something recognizable as a face took shape. Ink doesn't allow correction,

so every decision stays there, hesitations included. It might be a

self-portrait. It might be anyone's face. That's not for me to resolve - it's

for whoever's looking.

the background is very bland but heres a still life painting i did while training for art school exams !

For this piece, I deliberately experimented a great deal, repeatedly changing, reworking, and sometimes discarding entire layers of color. The painting process was very free and intuitive. Using acrylic paint, brushes, and a palette knife, four distinct figures gradually emerged, each ppearing as an individual in its own right, yet together forming a cohesive group.

We have a variety of Cypress tree in our yard that sheds bark. I chose this piece of bark for this particular painting and finished it off with a coating of two part Art Resin.
