Hiring [Hiring] Character Designer / Concept Artist for an Original Manga & Graphic Novel Project
Hi everyone!
I’m currently working on an original manga/graphic novel passion project, and I’m looking for an artist to help bring my characters to life.
At this stage, I’m not looking for someone to draw the manga itself. My current focus is building a memorable cast of characters that truly fit the world, tone, and story before moving into production.
Some characters already have rough concepts or references, while others are still just ideas on paper. I’m looking for someone who enjoys the creative side of character design, someone who can help refine existing designs, create new ones, experiment with different ideas, and work together until each character feels complete.
The story is a mature, character driven action/crime series set in a modern world that’s gradually becoming more futuristic. While it includes superpowers and advanced technology, the story is grounded in its characters, mystery, crime organizations, and long term world building. I want every character to have a design that feels unique, purposeful, and naturally fits the universe they’re a part of.
What I’m Looking For
Original character design and concept art.
Refining and improving existing character designs.
Outfit design that reflects each character’s personality, abilities, and role in the story.
Exploring hairstyles, accessories, color palettes, and different visual directions.
Someone who’s comfortable sharing creative feedback and ideas throughout the design process.
Preferred Art Style
I’m looking for a style somewhere between modern manga and graphic novel.
Clean and polished.
Expressive characters with strong silhouettes.
Dynamic without being overly exaggerated.
Not chibi or overly cutesy.
Not hyper-realistic or extremely gritty.
Something that feels like it could belong in a professionally published manga or graphic novel.
Budget
My budget is around $30–50 USD per character, depending on the complexity of the design.
This would mainly include:
New character concepts.
Design revisions and improvements.
Outfit redesigns.
Alternate color palettes.
Visual tweaks and refinements.
If we end up working well together, I’d be happy to continue commissioning you as I develop more characters for the series.
If You’re Interested
Please feel free to send:
Your portfolio.
Character design examples.
Your commission rates.
Anything else that best showcases your style.
If possible, I’ll also be happy to share references, mood boards, and existing concepts so you can get a better feel for the direction I’m aiming for.
Thanks for taking the time to read my post! I’m excited to find someone who genuinely enjoys creating original characters and helping shape a world from the ground up. I look forward to seeing your work!
