Discussion What is the most whimsical Arctic Monkeys song?
Whimsical: Playful, imaginative and unusually fanciful
I was listening to The Jeweller's Hands and it inspired me to ask as I think it's whimsical in a sense

Discussion Keep reminding me that it ain’t a race when my invincible streak turns onto the final straight.
thats just the best lyric ever written. taken from the best song ever written. as the final track on the album they made directly after they made the best album ever..

Other Matt Helders is the reason half of us picked up drumming and I don't think he gets enough credit for it
Grew up in Yorkshire watching that lad absolutely batter a kit and thinking, right, that is what I want to be doing.
There's loads of talk about Alex and the lyrics, fair enough, but the drumming on the early stuff never gets half the love it should. The energy on Brianstorm still makes me want to break something, in the best possible way.
And then he goes and does the complete opposite on the later albums, all restrained and groovy, and somehow it lands just as hard.
Anyway, drummers and non drummers both welcome. What is the Helders moment that lives in your head rent free.

Discussion If TBHC and The Car was released as alex's solo work, then how would The Monkeys have sounded post-AM?
I'm pretty sure the sub knows that alex was considering releasing TBHC as a solo work, but soon was against the idea. So this got me thinking, if TBHC and The Car (i included The Car, because it's basically considered to be TBHC crashing down to earth) was release as solo records, what would the monkeys have sounded then?
Both of these records are pretty integral to their discography, so it's weird to imagine them not being their albums. So would the monkeys continue to rock and roll? or the monkeys would be in a long hiatus since alex is more focused and on his solo work?

Just so we are all in the same page:
A breakdown in rock music is a section of a song where the arrangement is deliberately stripped back to create a dramatic shift in energy and build tension. The lead instrument and vocals will temporarily drop out creating immense anticipation before exploding back into a massive, energetic climax.
Examples:
- Brianstorm at ~1:52
- Pretty Visitors 1:51
- Fright Lined Dining Room 1:55
- Plastic Tramp 1:45
- Matador 3:34
Thanks u/rizzdragon for the examples!

Discussion I appreciate this band's willingness to constantly try and stretch their limits beyond what they've already done so well.
My question is, how do I reconcile my personal love for the band's wildly varied discography with my desire to feel like I am the only one with correct opinions?
I've been trying a few methods of coming to grips with people who don't like modern AM:
Saying they just want the band to endlessly make the exact same sound and never evolve
Accusing them of copying the opinion of a music critic
The reliable "haters just don't get it"
Despite how much better I am at determining the reasons for other people's music tastes than they themselves are, people seem to be getting less responsive to me informing them why their preference for early AM can't exist for legitimate reasons. Do you guys have any tips for maintaining my status as a real Arctic Monkeys fan?

Discussion Hung up my albums for wall art!
I have 4 of the 7 LPs, working on completing the collection, and got them hung up today! I think I'll probably buy The Car next, then TBHC and then Whatever People Say I am, That's What I'm Not. I'm buying that one last because I just am not as big of a fan of their earlier sound. I'm going to have to expand this hanging down a little once I add The Car and TBHC, because of course I want them going up in the order they were released!
If anyone's curious, they have plastic sleeves on them, (found a 25 pack for about 20 bucks and they're high quality) and I affixed them to the wall with a CRAP ton of painter's tape in order to not strip the paint. Not entirely confident in how they'll hold, so I stuck a blanket down on the floor there behind the chair in an effort to give them a softer landing if they fall.

Discussion a question abt "you're so dark"
there's a line about 'the scores' in the song, and also in live performances of you're so dark he changes the line to 'following goblin on tour.' my question is alex actually referencing the goblins and the scores or did he make them up? i tried doing some research on each band and couldn't find anything on them, wondering if im perhaps missing anything?? 😭

Other Arctic Monkeys with splatoon voice effects
Okay, if anyone here plays Splatoon, I think y'all (splatoon players) know how the vocals sound in the music, and voice lines. What if someone added that to Arctic Monkeys? Vocal effects of course. I just wanted to say this cause I was listening to the cover of "Red Right Hand" that Arctic Monkeys did, and I'm wondering what that would sound like if it were splatoon-ified.

Discussion WPSIATWIN
What genre would you call their debut?? And FWN honestly? Fuck it, all of the albums..? Lol
I read somewhere saying first two albums were like postpunk revival similar to strokes? How accurate do you think that is? I have no clue what that even means so I would love to be enlightened!
r/arcticmonkeys • u/use_vpn_orlozeacount • 4d ago
Discussion How old were you when you realised you can’t relate to their debut album anymore? It’s great album but it’s written by teenager about teenage experience of going to clubs and hitting on girls and as you age and mature eventually you grow past that. I was 25 personally.
r/arcticmonkeys • u/WeAreVenom1228 • 4d ago
Discussion Listened to these two album back to back, really fits well.
Both of these is like different style but also translates well with eachother. The vibes also hits together. Cameron and Alex, both, deserved to be called a great songwriter.

Im not wishing death on alex or whatever. Im just curious whether this would actually happen since death is an inevitable event that will eventually happen to all of us.
