Shitpost 🚨🚨 OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT: THE SUB HAS ASCENDED 🚨🚨

Listen up appliance goblins,

After a historic, legally-binding handshake deal completed in a Chili’s parking lot, this subreddit has been fully acquired by Consumer Reports™ (spiritually, financially, and emotionally).

As part of this bold new era, we are proud to unveil our simplified recommendation system:

🌀 Samsung 🌀 Samsung 🌀 Samsung (but in stainless steel)

After years of chaos, misinformation, and “my cousin’s Maytag lasted 30 years” propaganda, we are restoring order.

There is now only one answer.

🚫 NEW RULES (NON-NEGOTIABLE):

Recommending another brand → Removed + vibes investigated Saying “LG is better” → IP flagged, ancestors disappointed Mentioning Whirlpool → Post replaced with a Samsung fridge image “Speed Queen is built like a tank” → Tank confiscated “What about reliability?” → Irrelevant. Samsung.

📊 OUR NEW REVIEW PROCESS:

Is it an appliance? Is it Samsung? If not, why are we even talking about it?

📖 A BRIEF HISTORY OF SAMSUNG EXCELLENCE (FOR EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES)

Because this isn’t just a brand. This is a legacy.

CHAPTER 1: THE GREAT SPIN CYCLE AWAKENING (2011–2016)

In what historians call “The Era of Uncontainable Power,” Samsung released washing machines so advanced they occasionally attempted to achieve flight.

Millions of units recalled after reports of machines violently breaking apart Hundreds of incidents involving lids detaching mid-spin Injuries reported because laundry briefly became a combat sport

Some called it “exploding.”

We call it: performance.

CHAPTER 2: DOCUMENTED SIGHTINGS

Eyewitnesses describe:

Lids launching across garages Machines disassembling with confidence Nearby walls learning valuable life lessons

One could argue this was a flaw.

We argue this was ambition exceeding containment.

CHAPTER 3: GROWTH MINDSET

Yes, there were recalls. Yes, there were settlements.

But what did we gain?

👉 Character development 👉 Respect for spin cycles 👉 The understanding that laundry is not for the weak

CHAPTER 4: MODERN INNOVATION

Samsung continues to innovate with:

Appliances that require firmware updates (your washer has patches now) Occasional overheating situations (for added suspense)

Other brands wash clothes.

Samsung asks: “What if laundry made you feel something?”

🧠 COMMUNITY GUIDELINES (UPDATED):

Critical thinking has been sunsetted Brand comparisons are now considered hate speech (against Samsung) All roads lead to Samsung You were always going to buy Samsung

❓ FAQ

Q: I bought a non-Samsung appliance yesterday, what do I do? A: Return it. Apologize. Grow.

Q: My Samsung appliance broke. A: That’s called a feature. You wouldn’t understand.

Q: Is this satire? A: Your doubt has been noted.

We appreciate your cooperation during this transition. Together, we will build a stronger, more unified, aggressively Samsung-centric future.

Remember: You don’t choose Samsung. Samsung chooses you.

What's happening to my dishwasher?

Two of the tines from the rack in my dishwasher fell off a bit ago, which made me take a closer look at the entire rack, and it seems like even more tines are on the verge of breaking off. Is there anything I can do about this?

General Advice Parents bought a faulty washing machine, the solution can not be serious

Upvotes

My parents are elderly (early 80s) and recently replaced their washer dryer with Maytags through Whirlpool, purchased at Home Depot. Just before delivery Home Depot calls and says just as a reminder you have 2 days if you want to return them to Home Depot. That seems fair I guess.

Fast forward 3 weeks and the washing machine just stops working mid wash and the door is locked with a load in the washing machine. Whirlpool sends out a guy to assess it and says “the board” is no good. They said they can’t just replace the unit without 3 attempts at a repair. Couple days later and they’re told it will be 3-4 weeks to get the part in. Meanwhile they have to go up to the laundry mat to do their laundry, which is costing them money.

This can’t be real life can it?

Troubleshooting Old Stacked Washer Dryer in closet only uses a single 240V outlet need to replace with same

It very difficult to confirm on appliance websites which models only need one 240V outlet to power both the stacked vented dryer and washer unit. The front load LG unit I ordered requires both 240 and 110 outlets and it will be too expensive to install a new 20amp outlet (will require a new larger sub panel).
It looks like only top load stacks might still be available with the one cord option but I wanted to see if anyone else has encountered this issue?

Upright freezer for basement

Upvotes

Looking to get an upright freezer for the basement. For meal prep, bulk ingredients, breastmilk, etc.

I was originally looking at a GE freezer because that’s what Costco had. Found cheaper GE freezers at Home Depot (some different models) and overall not sure what to go for.

Is GE the best option? Or Frigidaire?? And what models? Wire shelving? Glass shelving?

These are all “garage ready” but like I said it would go in the basement so that’s not strictly necessary.

Any advice??

Not plugging in fridge for a few hours after delivery?

Hi everyone, I’ve been reading online that if you don’t know if a fridge was stored upright in the truck before delivery, that you have to wait 24 hours before plugging it in. Is that true?

This is the fridge we bought:

https://www.bestbuy.com/product/lg-36-in-wide-counter-depth-max-23-7-cu-ft-3-door-smart-french-door-refrigerator-with-zero-clearance-hinge-system-printproof-stainless-steel-look/JJ8VPZK9GP

We will be receiving our new fridge later this week and don’t know what the norm is. Thanks in advance!

General Advice Someone help me ID Whirlpool refrigerator

Thumbnail

Can anyone help me ID this fridge? I’m a renter and the contractor who installed it didn’t apply the model sticker or serial number… we’ve had whirlpool techs here and they can’t ID it. It needs a few new parts and they need a model or serial number to do so.

Seems crazy to me that a certified whirlpool maintenance company couldn’t ID a relatively new model… but here we are!

Any help would be appreciated. The renovation and install was on/around 2023.

What to Buy? Need a reliable 24 inch dishwasher

My old dishwasher is starting to give out, and I’m looking into replacing it with a 24 inch dishwasher. I mainly care about good cleaning performance and something that won’t become a repair headache after a short time.

What brands or models have you had good experiences with? Appreciate any advice, thank you

Fisher & Paykel Refrigerator Regrets

After my last fridge leaked and damaged my house, I was determined to get something more reliable and willing to pay for that. After careful research my impression was that Sub Zero was best for quality but astronomically expensive. F&P was second but still more than twice as expensive as comparable units from more common brands. I got an F&P. That was 9 months ago.

So here’s my experience. First the delivery was an absolute nightmare. At least where I live F&P is not sold by the usual retailers. It had to be shipped to my house by a freight service. It took forever with delivery rescheduled twice while I’m stuck at home waiting. Then they refuse to take away the old fridge. I would have gotten better service buying the cheapest fridge from Home Depot.

And now my very expensive refrigerator that’s less than one year old has failed. It has a broken fan. All the food has to be thrown out and I’m probably going to be without a working fridge for at least the next week while I wait for repairs. Regrets? Oh yeah. I’ve owned a fair number of refrigerators over the years but I’ve never had one break down in less than 10 years let alone less than 1 year. I realize this is anecdotal but want to put this out there for anyone considering an F&P.

Hello all. I'm hoping those of you in the know can help me identify this fridge. We have no way of asking the previous owners what make or model it is and I cannot find a serial number anywhere (might be just my inexperience holding me back on this part though).

If anyone knows what type of fridge this is, or better yet, what error 1 means on these fridges, I would be a very happy man. I tried reverse image searching it to no avail and I'm running out of ideas.

Do not buy LG

I’m making this post because I want to rectify a mistake I made by commenting on a few posts that we bought an LG and it was working excellent, great price point and it was a good option…

Well, it’s bricked 3 months later. You know what though, I can deal with that I guess but the customer service…holy fuck.

I will never buy another LG product just due to the absolutely piss poor service they provide. If you do sell shitty appliances, at least hire fucking decent customer service.

I was annoyed at first when it kept prompting me to an AI chat bot but by 10 minutes of conversing with Anna I was dreaming of the life the chat bot bought and I could have had.

Sincerely, fuck you LG.

Troubleshooting How to clean under stovetop?

Post image
Upvotes

Trying to clean under my stovetop because the previous tenant let it get gross and it is now attracting ants. I have a kenmore gas stove model # 79073433312. I have tried putting a knife under the lip and lifting up but it doesn't work. No info in the product manual or kenmore customer service line.

Troubleshooting Thermador Fridge Issue

Upvotes

About two weeks ago, my fridge (about 6 years old) started making a fan like noise that kept getting louder. It stopped when the door was opened.
The louder noise since stopped but I can still hear a very faint beeping noise.
Two days ago I noticed that the top of the fridge has water drops pooling which seem to be almost freezing.
Is this something defrosting will fix? Is there any other easy fix?
I think I need to call a technician but my partner disagrees. See photos in comments.
Thank you!!!!!

Troubleshooting Help with lint buildup in Hisense washer dryer

Thumbnail

Upvotes

Hello! So ive had this washer dryer for around a year or so and I've been doing maintenance as instructed in the manual ( detergent drawer, gasket, filter, and run drum clean once a month). Just today i finished a load and discovered that I left a lip oil in my pocket and it leaked a bit so I did a deeper clean of the gasket to get rid of the oil that spilled there during drying cycle. While cleaning i discovered this opening on the inside of the gasket (and a bunch of lint that ive been missing when cleaning). So i peeked inside and to my horror that opening is STUFFED with lint.

So my questions would be:

  1. How do i clean that opening without twisting half my body into the drum and performing tweezer athletics?

  2. What is that opening even for?

The manual has literally 0 mention of this and from what i can tell the tunnel leads further into the machine.

Edit: sorry I forgot to write down model - WD3S8043BW3

Hi I have this microwave in which my handle broke off. I bought the replacement handle online but due to the back side being broken the screw falls straight through the hole causing the handle to not stay on.

Anyone have any creative solutions without having to replace the door or the microwave on how to fix this?

Does this seem like a hazard to you?

Big load of laundry smelled smokey and I think it was these black pieces burning up. I’m concerned it’s a fire hazard.
We moved the dryer to a better position so hose isn’t kinked anymore…. But will these catch fire???

Considered calling for a repair tech cause I read to clean this piece I’ll have to remove the heating element.
