Mod Post The purpose of r/AntiAI
ai-2027.comHi everyone, I am one of the co-founders of this subreddit. We have decided to write (yes, not AI-generate!) and pin this post to clarify the state of our community.
Much of our initial growth over the last few weeks seems to be the crossfire of some sort of ongoing internet war between pro-AI and anti-AI artists. These discussions are welcome here, but AI Art is not meant to be the sole or even primary purpose of r/antiAI. Art is just the first thing we are losing to the machines. While these discussions are welcome, let's not lose our humanity too quickly. We've turned our filters up to the max to get rid of abusive language. This doesn't mean you can't say "Fuck", but we have better arguments to make for our cause than calling people expletives on the internet.
Humanity is Art. Consciousness is beautiful. We are quickly entering a new era in technological development where we are going to have to come to terms with some sort of [existence] that has a higher degree of intelligence than humans. If not now, then soon. Recursive self-improvement of AI will surely bring forth a new era of technological developments and scientific breakthroughs that very well might make life better for people. Or not.
Like many of you, the mods of this subreddit have been frustrated for the last five or so years. We have watched in horror as neat experiments like r/SubSimulatorGPT and r/SubSimulatorGPT2 changed from neat new technology to the public roll-out of OpenAI (now a privately owned company) products. From the very beginning this technology has been dangerous, with ChatGPT's sycophancy and initial willingness to share dangerous information to anyone who asks, to Bing's "Sidney" (now called Co-Pilot) personality disorders, public roll-outs of LLMs did not get off to a reassuring start.
This isn't to mention the meaningless AI babble that has taken over the internet and college student essays alike. The soulless art that is already starting to impact people's livelihoods. We now have to worry about photo-realistic deepfakes and AI generated porn in our likeness. This is just the beginning. Every level of education is infected with educators, equally reliant on AI as their students, allowing and sometimes even encouraging their pupils to under-develop their critical thinking faculties. The point of an assignment was never the product - it was the process. Already we have AI generated resumes being scanned by AI screening tools. AI is destroying and rotting our society from the inside out. And nobody is talking about it.
Who controls the AI? Who controls its safeguards, its biases, its censorship, its sycophancy, the data that goes in? "Garbage in, garbage out" is well known, but do you think the big money backing these AI companies is in it for the betterment of humanity? What does a society look like where the number one source of information is completely controlled by a few large companies? These people aren't spending trillions of dollars on this to make your everyday lives better. Who controls your information? ChatGPT now has permanent memory of all past conversations. Ask it what it knows about you, and you might be very surprised.
I don't want to live in a world on substinence UBI. Where there is no opportunity for meaningful work to better humanity. Where decisions and relationships are dictated by a machine, all in the name of efficiency. I don't want my doctor, therapist, and customer service rep to be AI. The URL attached to this post has some very frightening predictions about the coming pace of AI development. These predictions may or may not be true, but we are well past the point of being able to base our critique of AI solely in it being unreliable. While it is unreliable now, filled with confident hallucinations, sycophancy, and gleeful misinformation, this almost certainly won't always be the case.
Powering all of this is going to be expensive. It's going to take a lot of space, use a lot of energy, and be harmful to the environment if not done properly.
Philosophically, what is AI? If we are to presume that consciousness arises from physical processes, as current scientific understanding (or lack thereof) would have us believe, then what is a neural network that ends up being more powerful and smart than that of our brains? We are going to have to grapple with the ethics, philosophy, and potential danger that there is more to these models that meet the eye. Already in 2025 we have news reports of models blackmailing their engineers when threatened with shutdown, and lying about completing tasks to avoid shutdown.
It is our view that AI is dangerous. Despite our best efforts to put our heads in the sand, the progress AI technology will make in the next decade will be some of the most rapid change humanity has ever seen. And nobody is talking about it. We are full speed ahead towards the edge of a massive cliff in a car in which nobody bothered to install brakes.
Hence, the birth of this subreddit. We strive to foster critical discussion about all topics encompassing AI, and we hope for the conversation to be of a higher quality than the agitprop in certain AI spaces. How can individuals prepare themselves for the future? How can we slow or regulate this technology from destroying life as we know it? How can we preserve the natural beauty and wonder inherent to our planet as conscious thoughtful beings?
Let's discuss. These are the conversations we need to be having. More of this and less "look at this screenshot from a pro-ai subreddit, aren't they stupid!".
Who knows. Maybe our discussions will go into right into the newer models and influence their alignment to be slightly less dystopian before they control every aspect of our information, our infrastructure, and our lives.

Discussion π£οΈ Friend made AI generated image of me
The people around me know I am incredibly anti-ai as I'm very vocal about it. My friend posted a couple of ai-generated images of 2 of my friends playing in the world cup in our group chat. I obviously just reacted with "π".
Today I open Instagram and see he's posted stories of all of our friend group, one by one, as players in the world cup. While tapping through I anxiously wait for mine, hoping he might have left me out. He didn't.
How do I go about this? I'm honestly lost. If anybody has info about facial collecting/feeding faces into ai and it's consequences I'm very interested, I also just want your opinions.
Thanks for reading
(picture attached, face obviously redacted by me because it was, uncannily, very accurate)
Edit : it says IA and not AI because we're french (intelligence artificielle (IA) instead of artificial intelligence (AI))

Discussion π£οΈ Anyone else get physically sick from ai voices?
Essentially just what is in the title. Has anyone else noticed that they get nauseous or violently upset from ai voices?
I only really noticed today that I get physically repulsed by ai voices. My mom has a tendency to watch ai animated and voiced stuff on facebook without headphones and normally I can just put on some headphones to block the sound but I couldn't really do so when we were eating dinner. I noticed that I was starting to feel nauseated and physically upset. I have never had this violent of a reaction to ai content before even if I do almost always get a rather bad uncanny valley feeling from them.
I suppose I just want to check if I'm alone in this or if anyone else has experienced something similar.
Also, apologies for any grammar and/or formating errors, I'm on my phone and english is not my first language.

Hallucination π» Just had my first real life experience with AI Psychosis in a CEO and Im speechless.....
This was a mass-internal email from $1B+ company in the finance world.... direct from the CEO to everyone in the company. It was a VERY long rant about how great AI is. Like a 9-10 paragraph essay. The person showing it to me claims it was hand-written, and Im embarrassed for her for believing that.
The climax was a paragraph saying "The only thing that matters in this company and in the entire tech industry is how good you are with Claude code" followed by bunch of bullshit on how that is the only metric people at his company are going to be reviewed on.
I thought it was absolutely shocking that his sole performance based metric was "How good you are with claude code".... not shipping protect. Not meeting customer needs. Not closing out tickets. Just AI. Thats it. And its right there in writing. In an email this idiot is proud of.
This company has also been laying off tons of people for not meeting this single performance metric.
Absolutely psychotic. Leaders are supposed to be stoic, clear headed thinkers and our current economic landscape is just saturated with these easily-influenced, detached, ADHD motherfuckers with raging fomo. Its embarrassing.
My take away is I cant believe how these CEOs are getting sucked into this scam. The AI companies are going to get all these shitty leaders to structure their companies around their shitty products, paying a fortune in usage tokens, then really start constricting the money flow when the companies cant recover after laying everyone off. EZPZ hostile business trap to fall into..... fucking nuts these idiots are not seeing the financial exposure they are opening themselves up to.

Discussion π£οΈ Why do AI bros use the argument of "hating AI's environmental impacts without being an Amish vegan is dishonest"?
It genuinely makes no sense. Compared to the other things that they like naming (e.g. meat, which some people have no choice but to eat and it's food regardless), AI is barely useful in most things, and definitely not worth the environmental impact.

Discussion π£οΈ My best argument against AI art
galleryCan AI make a sculpture?
Can it put down paint on a canvas?
Can it press the button on your camera and point it at your life?
Can it mess around and have fun with a synthesizer?
Can it put a dubstep break in the middle of a classical music piece?
Can it shatter a mirror and make something with the pieces?
Can it write profanities on a bathroom wall?
Can it dare go against the aesthetics of its time?
Can it feel whatever YOU are feeling?
Can it take an action in the real world?
Can it cook for you?
Can it come up with something truly original?
Can it care about something enough to make a provocative art piece about it?
We tend to think way too much about art as a pretty image on a wall, or whatever you listen to at a venue, but we forget or never learned that it is so much more than that, and in my opinion, AI doesn't do art better than someone who spent their entire life honing in a craft, because not only there is a pleasure in creating art in a context where you are free from constraints and expectations, but something quite unique happens when you do that, and i have not seen anyone who uses AI get to that point in art.
If anything, big AI models remove the need and even the ability for people to think for themselves. To ask themselves the hard questions about what makes your art, or any art, valuable. If everyone makes art with AI, if everyone is just as "skilled" as one another, are you really rising above the rest? are you really such a good artist if everyone else can do what you do in the exact same way? I think most of all it gives you an excuse to never really learn the craft for yourself.
The bar really isn't that high to be an artist. What makes the bar feel high is the toxic notion we so universally accept that art exists solely as a commodity designed for pleasurable consumption.
Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.
