Discussion Anno 117 ships, video about Trireme And some comments about Quad and pent

This youtube channel at least feels accurate in their descriptions.
Now this is not an angry history troll post.
I'm fully aware that boarding and removing the masts (!) are not really anno compatible.

But It's cool, and I honestly think most have no clue how Triremes where used, and stored.

Did I mention they where stored?

Discussion Start of decoration/rebuilding

So I often start with decoration and rebuilding my cities over again at the last stage. Till that moment I’m kinda rushing to start rebuilding.

So my question, when do YOU start making your city beautiful and how do you plan the changes?

Hello, after seeing several beautiful builds i wanted to share my build on my main island. I finally finished the island with roughly 30h of playing time. I got 28k people living on that island. There is always room for improvement so i gladly take more inspiration from your builds in the comments!

Now it’s time to build up Cinis👍

Discussion Land combat > sea combat

Before Anno 117 released, I was very curious and a little sceptical about the new land combat system. And while it isn't perfect, it feels way better than the sea combat of Anno 1800, the more I think about it.

In Anno 1800, the capturing of islands was basically anno-fied Bloons TD and you could lose a fairly vast island full of production because the enemy destroyed your port.

In Anno 117, it feels way more immersive. Capturing an island is an act of war and now it looks like one, too. Legionnaires, cavalry, even catapults, marching through the city and leaving a trail of destruction. At the same time, it deepens the tactical perspective and gives you the opportunity to plan a proper conquest considering your enemy's defense.

Of course, Anno isn't the same for everyone. While I like to stay true to the developer's vision of Anno, to others it's a city builder or an economic sim only. And that's fine, of course. But for our bubble of war mongering Annoholics, I believe that the new system is better than the old one.

Question Anno 1800 Gold Edition on console

Hi all!

Just browsing new games in the store on Xbox, and came across Anno 1800 Gold Edition, on the description it states that it includes all seasons & DLC’s from PC. (Land of the lions, empire of the skies, etc) Am I wrong in saying that those DLC’s are not supposed to be on console?
They never have been in the past and Google is telling me nothing.

So far so good. I'll probably do some adjustments especially near harbor area but I'll leave it as it is for now, maybe it would serv as an inspiration for someone.

Discussion Wishes for future updates / DLCs

Since this is becoming a trend, I'd like to add some suggestions that in my opinion would improve the QoL and just overall enjoyment of Anno 117.

And before I start, don't get me wrong: I really really really enjoy the game, having spent around 130 hours on just my current save. Some of it might be minor QQ, but since the devs read at least some posts here, these are just ideas and wishes.

1. Make the Amphitheater's range global.

And the Hippodrom's as well, when it comes out. I really liked the last update giving us more space on Cinis to work with, but some areas just can't be reached. And seeing as the Amphitheater is limited to 1 building per island that kinda sucks.

2. Improve the trading and ship interface.

Several complaints here:

- When a ship is between Latium and Albion it can't be interacted with. Just give me the option to issue a command like "as soon as you reach the target region, do xyz"

- Let me fully disable the "minor issue" alarms. One of my trade routes has a ship with 4 and another with 6 slots. So I always see this red exclamation mark saying that one of my ships can't fully operate on that trade route... yes I know.

- I want to be able to jump to a ship when I'm managing a trade route. Or at least give it commands. Right now, I have 60+ ships. It's a complete nightmare to find that exact ship in the current ship menu.

3. Remove the randomness of the specialist research

It sucks that I can only get certain and very important specialists through random research luck. Most notably the one that improves the aqueduct efficiency (Auqila something) and the gold mine efficiency (Minas Orlamh I think). Right now, the research takes 14 hours (having done it like 10 times or so) and since I don't want to waste it with useless specialists, I have to savescum right before the research finishes. The system from Anno 1800 was much better, eliminating the randomness of the research. A system that encourages savescumming is inherently flawed.

The same could be said for rerolling a merchant's specialist stock until you find the one you're looking for, but that's not big of an issue since money really doesn't play a role later in the game.

4. Implement a less tedious "jump to building" option.

Let's say I have 10 bakeries on an island and I want to find a specific one. Right now, I have to go into the island menu (shift Q), look for the bakeries, click on buildings and then jump to one. And if that's the wrong one, I have to repeat all of that. It's just inconvient.

A simple solution could be that you just select the specific good the building produces from your warehouse and then have an option to jump to every building that produces said good, e.g. in our case bread -> bakeries. We have the option for river slots and mine slots, so this would work in a similar way.

5. Make prestige more.. prestigious

So far, it's rather useless. Yes, you need it in the early game to unlock some research. But afterwards? Additional specialist slots in your villa. That's nice, but it's not really that impactful, especially since the villa's influence is rather limited. Compare this to faith, where each new tier unlocks useful bonuses.

Several ideas here, just in random order: more prestige could mean...

- less consumption of certain goods (e.g. luxury goods)

- random specialists as a reward (similar to 1800)

- increased productivity on certain buildings

- use it as currency for.. whatever. Settling new islands, receiving certain specialists..

My favorite idea would be that it increased the amount of specialists for your officia. But I know that's incredibly busted and/or impossible to balance properly. So maybe just increase the effictiveness of specialists? For example: specialists that increase productivity get a 1% bonus for each tier.

Discussion Multiple islands supply

Hi everyone, here's a problem I've been thinking about for a while. In Anno 1800 you had the exact navigation time of every trade route, and thanks to this you could calculate the precise quantity of goods for an island by multiplying the travel time by the goods needed per minute.

In Anno 117 there is no such thing, and it's really difficult for me to create, for example, a centralized island that produces a certain good and supplies all the others.

How do you guys manage this? For now, I'm just supplying islands on a 1-to-1 basis, exactly like in Anno 1404.

Question Are Letters of Marque in 1404 multiplayer game viable?

I am playing Anno 1404 AD with some friends; we are not seasoned Anno players (I played 1503 as a kid). But we are having great fun! I was wondering if one can use letters of marque against human players effectively. I was considering capturing or buying a couple corsairs to disguise even more that it was me, but I am worried that the notification sent to my friend or some other thing the game does will allow my friend to see through the disguise.

Has anyone ever used it against human players before?

Discussion New Anno 117 player want some advice and comparison between 117 and 1800.

I got Anno 117 from the Steam summer sale a month ago (~70 hrs playtime atm) and have absolutely loved the game so far. I just saw that there's a sale on the Anno 1800 Annoversory Edition on Steam. I've heard that Anno 1800 is very well liked and would love to try the game out, so I'd appreciate some comparisons or advice from people who have played both

- How much of a jump in complexity from Anno 117 to 1800 with all DLCs ?

- What are some key differences between Anno 117 and 1800 ?

- Any general tips or advices are great too.

- I know the core gameplay are pretty similar but are there some kind of flavors or mechanics that are unique to Anno 1800 compared to 117 ?
