Found a way to play Aion again!

Post image

I missed playing this game because I used to play it a bit back when I was in high school. I was thinking of joining a server, but I found a way to play it again by hosting my own offline/local server. It's lonely, but to be able to hear the soundtracks and explore the maps again feels so nostalgic.

I went to gameforge and downloaded aion classic. It was presetned as the older version of the game (u know classic). I create the character, and im in a big city teleprtong around to do bunch of weird tutorial quests. By the time i got to lvl 8 i just turned the game off. Wtf? This is a completelly different game. I see a youtube video where someone creates a character and starts in a leveling zone as it used to be, but why im i getting the different starting experience?

Hiya! I have questions!

So, I guess this might be a little bit long winded, because, I literally decided to FINALLY make an account, just to post here. Imagine Aion of all things, being the reason I finally make an account.

I have been going through a nostalgia fit, and just spent a few months on classic wow, now I am dying for the real MMO of my childhood, the one I started to play because I was a child and couldn't afford a WOW subscription, the one that got me to be a degenerate open world pvp lover, Aion.

I have noticed that this sub does not condone "non official" postings anymore. However, I also am VERY skeptical of relying on NCSOFT to run the game.

I have a a general question, which sort of is meant for the mods, but might be allowed to be answered by others; if "non official servers" are not allowed to be discussed, where do we safely explore those opportunities? If we are not allowed to talk about anything that is not official, regarding a game where the official version has been historically worse than player ran servers, how or where do we safely talk about non official mediums?

(I'm sorry if this still doesn't fit the rules but I really have no idea where else to ask. I'm not asking for promotion, I'm asking for where to go, to find out what is safe and to get reliable information. I have never played on one of these servers before and I really don't want to hop into any random one that could be malicious. Of course, I am not insistent on playing on something non official, I just don't expect NC to take care of the game better than players would.)

My second question is; if retail is worse than classic, is classic worth playing in NA?

I am dying to play this game again, and a few years back, I gave retail Aion a shot again. I did enjoy myself for a while while I learned the game again. I ran into a sad moment however, when I realized they changed several things, and the whole, "transformation" thing seemed very very very anti consumer. The gear being streamlined was kinda lame. Also I might be imagining it but I think my skills were cut in half.

I remember playing a cleric back in the day, where I chose to run cloth items specifically so I could do more damage on my healer, obviously making solo content faster, but mainly for pvp reasons, because a cleric that could burst, was actually somewhat scary, at least back in the day.

Coming back I found they restricted armor types now. No more silly spell power on my assassin for memes, no more cloth for my cleric, chanter was the only class I played the way it was meant to be played.

After leveling all my characters up and finding that I cant really do any silly off meta stuff, I tried to just play normally. This was then immediately ruined by the new "transformation" system they added.

I don't understand why you would add a system to a game, that fundamentally makes the idea of creating your own character pointless. Not to mention, I had bought outfits in the past. They offered "invisible" transformation scrolls, or something named along that line. Which to me, as a returning player who literally grew up being a nerd ganking in Gelkmaros, seemed insulting because, any outfit I had bought, was not visible, without paying money for those specific scroll things, to then be able to see the outfits I had once paid money for.

I didn't delve into the pve much further after discovering this, because it just annoyed me so much that I refused to explore further. I don't know if its feasible for a f2p player to bypass this, I don't know if the PVE is still any fun, and I didn't even try to find out, if i could even participate in pvp.

All that being said, I would happily play retail if the game itself had some integrity, but I didn't see any. Has this changed since I last tried it out a few years ago?

Then for my final question; is classic NA even worth my time? Would EU classic be worth it despite a ping issue if I am from NA? I was really excited when I heard them announce Aion classic a few years ago, but as soon as I got word they added a battle pass, a VIP sub system, and an RWT to MTX conversion, I was immediately disappointed and NEVER gave it a chance. I would have happily paid a sub fee, just to play, but I don't want to pay a sub fee, in a f2p game, just to have an advantage over others.

I loved this game when I was little, and I really miss it. I really just want to find out how to play it in a meaningful way again.

If any mods have an issue with me asking how to get information on non official servers, I will edit it out if you want. I just want to play Aion again.

I guess you would just deny or delete the post? Idk how reddit works, I just made the account so I could ask here. Sorry if its still against the rules.

Greetings Daevas,

This is some kind of self-vent, so bear with me. I started playing Aion around 2012, when I was 11 years old. I could barely understand English, barely understood anything, honestly. My only goal back then was to catch up to my older brother and spend time with him. Endless questing without understanding a single quest. And somehow, it was more than fun. I guess that feeling stayed stuck with me ever since. Long story short, after years of playing and quitting and coming back, I of course ended up in Aion Classic. Led Legion Scream for a while, had an incredible time with new people, and finally got to understand the game I'd been blindly wandering through as a kid. It was really fun, while it lasted. Now I'm sitting here, working, listening to this nostalgic music, and I can't shake the feeling that I just need one more Classic experience. Just one more dose. But maybe some things are meant to stay as memories. Maybe that 11-year-old chasing his brother through Asmodea got everything he came for. Thank you, Aion community, for the memories.

Today I was exploring the old deleted maps on my server and found this guy, quite special ngl, first one without wings to follow me even up in the sky, he surely got mad for disturbing his peace since did not even got up lol. My server is totally offline and I am not promoting it in any way, shape or form, this is totally for entertainment.

Typical Gladi/Cleric relationship, trauma bonded over running DC for the bakarma spear and never getting it. Now he has it in miniature form instead.

Aion 2 was just at Summer Game Fest — if the trailer pulled you (back) in, I run a free fan-made hub to get ready for the H2 2026 global launch

The new Aion 2 trailer airs at Summer Game Fest later today (June 5, 5pm ET / 11pm CEST), and NCSOFT is still holding to a second-half-of-2026 global PC launch on Steam/PURPLE with NA/SA/EU/Japan servers. With the game live in KR/TW since November, a lot of what's coming is already knowable — so while we wait, I've been building a free fan hub around the live version's data:

Everything is free to use — an account is only needed if you want to save builds in the planner. If the trailer announced anything new today, the release-date guide gets updated as NCSOFT confirms things. https://aion2hub.com/guides/aion-2-release-date

Feedback and feature requests very welcome — this is a fan project and I'd rather build what the community actually needs before the servers go live.

I keep trying to get back into Aion, but it’s just not the same anymore.

I’ve been a fan of Aion for a long time, it was the game that actually taught me the value of community in an MMO. I’ve been going back through my old gaming memories lately and putting together my thoughts on why the 'journey' in these games felt so much more impactful than what we have now.

I made a short video about my experience coming back, the nostalgia, and why I think we lost something when we started trading 'adventures' for 'shortcuts' and shop items.

I know I’m probably going to get some flak for my take on the 1.9 shop and how the game shifted, but I’m curious if anyone else who played back in the day feels like the soul of the game changed along the way. I'm just a guy sharing some honest thoughts, let me know if I’m way off base or if you feel the same.

Aion Launches 'AION REMAKE'... New Server Opens on the 20th at 7 PM ( korean )

Post image
54 Upvotes

NC (Co-CEOs Kim Taek-jin and Park Byung-moo) is launching a major update for its PC MMORPG 'Aion' titled 'AION REMAKE' on the 20th, alongside the opening of a new server, 'Deva'.

This update was designed with the concept of rebuilding Aion from the ground up. It introduces a variety of content, including the new 'Deva' server featuring an auto-hunting system, a class remake that adjusts major skills for all classes, combat enhancements with the addition of wings, and significant overhauls to systems such as inventory and crafting.

All players can begin playing on the Deva server starting at 7 PM on the 20th. The Deva server features different fields from the original server and applies a new crafting system, allowing players to craft costumes—previously available only through paid currency—using materials obtained through gameplay.

Additionally, Aion has conducted a class remake for all 13 classes to improve balance and provide a fresh experience through revamped major skills and Stigma systems.

To celebrate this major update, NC has prepared the 'Deva Conquest Race' event. Special rewards will be given to the first players to complete specific missions, such as reaching level 55 or clearing instance dungeons on the Deva server. To celebrate these achievements, additional rewards will also be distributed to all players on the server.

Furthermore, for those who missed the pre-registration period, a coupon with special benefits will be available until midnight on June 9. More detailed information regarding this update can be found on the official Aion website.

ELYON AION WARNING

I’m aware that posting about private servers is generally not allowed, but from what I’ve read, warnings based on personal experience are permitted, so I want to share this for awareness. As many of you know, Aion isn’t what it used to be and more private servers are appearing with different features and promises. Since it has been one of my favourite games since childhood, I’ve tried several of them over time.

Unfortunately, my experience with Elyon Aion has been extremely negative, and I feel it’s important to warn others. I played on the server for a while and initially ignored multiple warnings I came across, assuming it was just the usual competition between private servers trying to discredit each other. However, over time I started noticing serious issues that aligned with those warnings.

The website appears to lack proper security measures, and there are concerns about how user data is handled, including possible leaks, which I’ve attached screenshots of. In addition, there are repeated claims within the community that the people behind this project run multiple short-lived servers and abandon them after monetizing players. I’ve also seen allegations about reused or taken assets from other projects (including elden aion). Additionally, the developer behind the server has been accused within the community of scamming, including selling incomplete or non-functional data and unprofessional behaviour, such as sending unrelated personal images to buyers (his? baby) to get money of them.

Based on my experience and what I’ve observed, I strongly recommend being cautious and avoiding this server. If you are considering trying it, please do your own research first and be careful with your personal data and any money you might spend.

Aion repeated the same mistakes and I'm baffled about it

Players lost their spark after the game went too deep into P2W and Gameforge's economic model milking the players too much. Then NCSoft didn't take any action to publish in EU and try to workaround Gameforge, which we know them for not caring at all. To this day, Gameforge is still doing the same thing and the game is dead anew.

Players lost their spark after they deleted old zones. Then we got them back in Classic, after losing 90% of the playerbase because it took them +10 years to come up with Classic. Then they removed them again, the geniuses, the ABSOLUTE masterminds of design that NCSoft are, they did it again, so now even if you enjoyed being nostalgic, well once again, you can't anymore. There's a world where being a failure is actually a good thing and in this world NCSoft are N°1.

Private servers are barely holding at this point, and even this, they censor it and try to boycott rather than getting inspiration from what PLAYERS REALLY WANT. There's even people who are actually competent at keeping servers active with alive communities, you think NCSoft would at least try and reach to them to try and do something interesting? No. Cuz' once again, they are masterminds. Capitalistic dogs that won't listen to anything.

Players hate the idea of a game where spamming the same button to TP from NPC to NPC just to catch up faster and not even explore is the main mechanic. You know what they did ? Implement the exact same system that threw off SO MANY players when Aion reached 4.8 (or something like that). Now we don't know if Aion Classic is either Aion 2, Aion mobile, actually Aion 1 (certainly not) or whatever. It's an inbetween of bad decision, irrational thinking, from devs and a company that has lost the plot a long time ago. The game is a mutated mass of everything that is not pleasing to deal with as a player overall with decisions that are extremely hurtful to the playerbase and detrimental to the longevity of an MMO.

I could go on with what seemingly inspires Aion Classic dev team to design their game to look more like Aion 2. The new DISGUSTING UI, the classes logo when creating a character, the feeding bottle that is instantly put in your mouth when you create a new char, rather than beginning in Poeta like everybody expects, nah, you get half a Sanctum and a whole old PvP zone that you now spend 1 hour into so you can reach the next new zone ASAP. They shrink the zones exactly like in Aion 2, which goes to the very opposite of initially being able to take RIFTS into Asmodea or Elysea. Once again, a stab in the heart of the fan, to go into a direction NOBODY wants. Nobody from Aion 1 who is a fan can look at me in the eyes and tell me Aion 2 is somewhat close or as enjoyable as Aion 1 used to be. Or at least it's totally a different approach and it's like telling me I'll love pasta more than rice for the sole reason that I eat food. That doesn't mean I want to nor it is a good idea to go for rice over pasta. Yet they want their ugly little brother to now slowly assimilate his older brother, which is something nobody asked for nor love particularly. It's a downgrade in minimalism, which is a fever every single f-in company seems to have since 20 years now. Whether it's video games or design in general, they all opt for that ugly way to design stuff that loses all it's charm, and they actually think they're doing something awesome.

Aion 1 was about twinking, invading, plotting, hiding in a big map to survive as long as you can with your Kisk. It was about communicating with your faction, create guilds, have people link with each other. It was about 2 factions fighting each other sometimes at a HUGE scale, at the cost of the community effort to make it have sense when it came to take down fortresses and such.

But who is to be remembered to this day ? Who has had some sort of reward for keeping a game alive and well in a game where it is a NECESSITY to have players with bonds and organisation in both faction ? Nobody. It never happened. All of this made all the difference compared to the disappoiting, TikTokbrain-ish 1 second game that is Aion 2. It was the very essence of logging in everyday : the necessity to have players grinding in a game where you NEED them to be somewhat numerous so it fulfills its purpose and its design and also pushes the players to organise well with each other. In Aion 2 you don't even have to think about your gameplay anymore because the only thing that counts is that you have good looking wings and a juicy booty to observe all day long, and the GS score to go up. Gooners content, zero passion for what a game actually should be. Dopamine inducing pixels rather than a passionate well thought-out video game where balance is key & king.

I know, I know, useless rant. But I can't be launching Aion Classic for the last time and see that sh*t without having a burning passion to tell NCSoft TO GO F THEMSELVES. These guys are the worst company (I also think about MxM right now which had INSANE potential) that has ever had to deal with videogames and I hope that these guys know that they failed at absolutely everything they did even if the stock investors in their lobbies say the arrow is green and up. I can only hope to see NCSoft fall once for good and have them replaced by a miracle but that's probably not going to happen.

Please if you also feel frustrated with their decision, say it out loud under this post. Make them understand once for all why they are so bad at what they're doing.
