From what we’ve seen so far, AC8 looks like a return to the focused, character-driven storytelling of AC5. I'm not necessarily talking about the cinematic cutscenes —it’s about actually giving us a reason to care for your squadron. AC5 made you feel like part of a team, where every member had distinct personalities and felt human. The pivot where Wardog transforms into the Demons of Razgriz left a lasting impression precisely because it felt personal.

Too many entries feel emotionally detached, focusing more on fractured geopolitics than the human element. Consequently, it was hard to truly care about what was happening. But with Wings of Theve, giving us our squadron mates and their backstories upfront signals a shift back toward a character-first narrative.

Reasons why I actually do think it’s more likely Count than Dision:

1. Unlike Noise, we don’t know Count’s real name.

2. We also don’t know his age, but Dision was born in 1997 which would make him old enough to have flown in the Lighthouse War, and while 22 is a little young for a fighter pilot I’d point out that Count probably wasn’t a military pilot before being sent to the penal battalion.

3. Like Dision, Count would already be an established ace by 2029. And I personally see him going to the private sector more than I see him staying in the military.

4. We don’t know much about Noise but he actually seems like a pretty chill guy. Count, on the other hand, was very much known as a narcissist and opportunist who didn’t have the strongest moral compass around.

5. We know they were already starting to make connections to AC3 when they were writing AC7 with Yoko Martha Inoue being mentioned and Erich Jaeger’s father being one of our wingmen.

6. Imo Count looks a lot more like Dision than Noise does.

Now I am very aware that enemy nations regularly use Falcons and what not, even if Sukhois are the staple bad guy plane. But since it is very clear that every nations has almost any plane available, especially since the protagonist can use any plane (technically the Berkut is even one of Moebius canon planes), I kinda noticed that I have never seen an ally squadron use Mig or SU planes. And no changing your squads plane or enemies turning into allies in the later half does not count. Is there any instance where we actually see Usea or someone else use them? I guess Mimic squadron sorta counts, but they are still enemies.

Actually I just remembered the penal unit does I guess, but I really don't know anyone outside of that. And even then it's basically the plane for the criminals.

It's just kinda funny to imagine everyone being confused by the one guy that flies around in a Sukhoi while everyone else uses the F-15, like in Fleet Destruction. Like "Hey, why is that one guy always using the Su-37? Nobody in the army does." "Why do we even produce those actually?"

After about 30 attempts to get the S rank on Ace difficulty for 10 Million Relief Plan (Special Mission 3) with the Darkstar, I tried it once with the Rafale with the LACM and got the S rank on my first try. I’m ashamed and need to atone for my sins.

I could get 44k points with the darkstar consistently but the time bonus was the issue

I have never felt so much satisfaction making squares and octagons disappear one by one before. If I knew laser guns have been part of Ace Combat for decades I'd have picked this series up sooner. I heard this series was Anime AF in spite of the more grounded artstyle but I didn't think it'd be THIS sci-fi.
