So, as they did in Budapest in 1956 and Prague in 1968, Moscow sent in tanks, murdering 55 German citizens and wounding 15,000. The squalor of East Germany was already so bad after only 8 years of russian rule that the wounded had to be sent to West Germany for emergency hospitalisation.
