I just read _The last wolf_ and _Herman_. I've never read Laszlo before; picked up the book out of lazy curiosity. I have a few questions regarding _Herman_ (trans. John Batki).

1. What's the importance of "contra Yukio Mishima" comment before the start of _The death of a craft_? I have read only one novel by YM (_The frolic of the beasts_) hence not well versed with every nuance of YM's writing.

2. The timeline of events for Herman's shenanigans seem to be different in _The death of a craft_ compared to _The game warden_, with the former also mentioning extra bits (e.g., Herman leaving carcasses on people doorsteps, and leaving a trap at the feet of Christ, etc.). What's up with these? Also, Herman's fate remains open-ended in _The death of a craft_. What's the importance of these differences?

Found another comic featuring Yukio Mishima. This one is a Mexican comic published by Editorial Novaro in 1971. The story follows Mishima's final moments during his attempted coup as he reflects on his life and past experiences.

The comic is entirely in Spanish and is 30 pages long. I’ve uploaded a few sample pages here, along with a link to the full comic for anyone interested.

七 (shichi): Seven
生 (shō): Lives / Births
報 (hō): Recompense / Repay
國 (koku): Country / Nation

Note that they both read right to left in old Japanese fashion: 國報生七

The top example was handmade for a rightwing, nationalist group and is of the same type worn by Mishima in photo shoots and on his final day.

The lower example is an actual prop from the movie 'Mishima: A Life In Four Chapters'.
Note the American film makers made a mistake with the character 'koku' by using the modern kanji 国 instead.

國 (Kyūjitai / Old form): Features the character for "weapon/defense" (或) inside the border, representing a guarded territory.

国 (Shinjitai / Modern simplified form): Replaced the complex interior with "jade" (玉), representing a king's treasure within the borders.

This appeared on Yahoo Auctions several years ago and apparently turned into a bidding war when people realised what it was.

I might watch it tonight if the link i found works but curious to hear from other fans.

I came across this while looking for manga adaptations of Yukio Mishima's work. I found a couple of comics and manga related to Mishima, but most of them seem to be in foreign languages. There seem to be more comics about Mishima himself than adaptations of his work, probably because of copyright.

While searching, I found this reference to Mishima in Otona na Ishinomori, in the chapter "My Sexual Life: Perversion by Sex." The complete story is 22 pages long, but I've only included the pages that reference Mishima.

If anyone knows of other manga or comics that reference Mishima or adapt his work, I'd love to hear about them. I'll probably keep posting anything else I find along the way.

Many years ago, I met the man who sold Mishima the sword which eventually decapitated him. It was actually a later generation Kanemoto - not a Seki no Magoroku, as Mishima liked to claim.

I myself have been collecting Japanese swords for over forty years and every time I pick up a tanto (dagger), I think of the sheer fanaticism it would take to drive that thick stick of razor sharp steel deep into your own gut ....and pull. Each time I draw a long sword, I imagine kneeling below it and struggling to remain composed whilst waiting for it to descend.

Reading about these weapons in Mishima's biography is one thing - to feel their baleful aura in hand is quite another.

I was looking for manga adaptations of Yukio Mishima's work when I came across these pages from Night Music #2 by P. Craig Russell. The story, "Dance on a Razor's Edge," is inspired by Mishima's suicide and was published by Eclipse Comics in 1985.

I've been wondering why Mishima's novels don't seem to have many manga adaptations, despite how influential he is in Japanese literature.

Are there any official manga adaptations of his novels or short stories, even if they were only published in Japanese? And are there any fan-made manga based on his works?

If there really aren't many adaptations, does anyone know why?

The only things I've been able to find are two manga about Mishima himself: Mishima: My Death Is My Masterpiece and Tate-no-kai. Am I missing anything?

Myself (Pat) and my good friend Daniel have decided to record our conversations about Mishima that we have had off and on for the last 10 or so years in a more structured format, (hopefully) for the entertainment of a listening audience. I am promoting the podcast to seek some feedback on structure, elements and things we might be missing out on that might make for a better listen.

We have begun with a chapter by chapter discussion of the Sailor who Fell From Grace with the Sea, keeping it light, non-serious and non-academic as we discuss the doings of the perfidious weirdo Noboru Kuroda and his oafish foil, the equally weird Ryuji Tsukazaki.

I'm a massive Jean Genet fan, I've read basically everything he's written that's been translated into English. I've read 5 or 6 Mishima novels now and I feel like there are so many similarities between them stylistically and thematically and even philosophically (although Genet met the Black Panthers later in life plus other experiences and became quite left-leaning despite his continued romanticism/sexualizing of authority figures). I'm sure other people have made similar connections, so I'm wondering if there are any good books or academic texts that compare or contrast the two, and if anyone here has read any/recommends any specific piece?

I'm currently reading Life For Sale, which is maybe my 5th or 6th Mishima novel I've read, and the translation feels very strange to me. I can't tell if it's because it's sort of a comedy, which is a style I've not read from Mishima before. But to me the language feels so much more blunt and immature and weirdly inelegant compared to everything else I've read. The phrase "Well, I didn't see that coming" comes up in the novel in a way that feels like a modern comedy, a character looking toward the camera and speaking to the audience, only that's not what's happening in the novel. I'm not very far into the book, maybe 80 pages, so maybe the style is deliberate on Mishima's part and it's not the translation. Does anybody have any opinions or thoughts about it?

Hi, I’m curious about Jiro Fukushima’s memoir Ken to Kankou/Sword and Winter Red. I know the book was pulled from sale following the lawsuit, but is there any source that describes the contents of the Mishima letters?

I’m also generally curious to learn more about Mishima’s friendships and relationships, so if anyone has a particular biography they’d recommend, I’d be grateful. Thanks!
