So I’ve recently had a job opportunity pop up in Wuhan, but I haven't accepted it just yet. Tbh, I really want to visit the city first, get a feel for the place, and hopefully get to know some people before making such a massive commitment.
I’m French, and I’ll be honest, my biggest fear right now is moving all the way out there, knowing absolutely no one, and just ending up hating the city and my life because I'm isolated. I know it can be pretty tough making friends as a foreigner from scratch, which is why I thought I'd post here.
If anyone (locals or expats!) fancies a chat or would be up for showing me around a bit when I do visit (maybe between the 1st and the 8th of October 2026), give me a shout. Happy to swap WeChats if we get on.

I grew up in Wuhan then went to the states and lived there for 10 years. I came back last year. Missed the time there and looking for someone to share my stories and experiences. It’s been a year since the last time I speak English and I would like to use it again lol.

i remember there being a link to a website on google that showed some chinese website leading to a menu for the huanan seafood market before it got taken off sometime around 2020, does anyone remember this or am i just going crazy

Went to the location towards optic valley. Beer was good, burger was meh but better than Chinese places. Tacos and mozzarella sticks were awful. I need recommendations.

I’ve tried casa cocina and it was ok. Casita is good but overpriced when some of it missed the mark, both were solid but a little stretch from great. Is there anything else? Maybe something that doesn’t automatically show up at the top of xiaohongshu? That whole app feels like one big ad.

I’ve seen some posts about a Pakistani place but haven’t tried it. Basically just looking for savory and flavorful and a recipe that doesn’t cut corners or is a Chinese interpretation. I’m not trying to bite into a sweet quesadilla made with yogurt and corn…. 🥲

Hey everyone! I'm moving to Wuhan in August as an international student and want to sort out my healthcare stuff before I arrive instead of scrambling later.

Mainly wondering how easy it is to see a psychiatrist there as a foreigner. A few things I'm curious about:

1. Are there psychiatrists who speak English? My Mandarin is basically zero right now

2. Do I just walk into a hospital or do I need a referral first? I've heard Union Hospital and Zhongnan have international clinics, are those the way to go?

3. Roughly what does a consultation cost, and does the student insurance usually cover mental health visits?

I am travelling with a friend to Wuhan via overnight train, which will arrive at 5AM.

I was wondering if there is somewhere we could hangout / relax, while we wait for our flight at the end of the day. Ive heard of 24 hour spas where we could get a day pass? Or if we could go to a gaming cafe or honestly whereever that isnt sitting in a park or getting a hotel for the day.

I grew up in Wuhan and recently graduated, and I’ll be spending some time back home in Wuhan from June 22 to July 1.

One thing I’ve always felt is that many international travelers visit places like Beijing and Shanghai, but very few get to experience Wuhan. Since I grew up here, I’d love to help change that.

If you’re visiting Wuhan during that period and would like to explore the city with a local, I’d be happy to spend a day showing you around.

I’m not a professional guide. I simply enjoy travel, food, photography, and sharing my hometown with people who are curious about China.

Some things we could do:
• Try Wuhan breakfast classics like hot dry noodles, doupi, and mianwo
• Walk around old Hankou and the former concession area
• Visit local coffee shops and hidden streets
• Watch the sunset by the Yangtze River
• Enjoy local barbecue and other places that most visitors wouldn’t easily discover on their own

There is no guiding fee. Since I’ll be driving and spending the day with you, I’d appreciate if visitors could cover the shared expenses for the day, such as fuel, parking, meals, and any entrance tickets if needed.

One of the reasons I’m doing this is because I want to better understand what foreign travelers find interesting, confusing, or surprising about China. I hope to share more authentic stories and introduce the local side of China to a wider audience.

A few notes before reaching out:
• Best suited for solo travelers or very small groups (maximum 3 people)
• I may occasionally film food, streets, and parts of the experience for my travel content. If you’re not comfortable appearing on camera, that’s completely fine.
• No fixed itinerary. I like keeping things flexible depending on the weather, energy levels, and what everyone feels like doing that day

I everyone, I’m really enjoying Wuhan so far!

I’ll be staying here for about a month (currently based in Wuchang), and I’d love to explore more beyond the main tourist spots.

So far I’ve visited the Yellow Crane Tower, walked around the nearby neighborhoods, spent time at East Lake and Sha Lake, and explored the main business district. I also wandered around the European-style area and its surroundings.

I really enjoy just walking around, discovering local neighborhoods, markets, and more “authentic” places.

Do you have any recommendations for interesting neighborhoods to explore on foot and also local markets (not just food, but also antiques, random stuff, etc.)?

Finally if you can drop your favorite restaurant (the one you would take a friend to dinner) please feel free to do it! I'm having a bit of an hard time to orient myself on the topic :D
