I probably read this in the early 90’s, but I’d say it would have been out 1995 or earlier. I think it was young adult since it was about either middle or high schoolers.

It was a boy and a girl and I believe they decided to make this pregnant woman with an abusive husband their project for school.

I don’t recall a ton of details, but I think they started to fall for each other, however the abusive husband shoved the boy while standing on an icy sidewalk and the boy hit his head and died.

I have searched and searched and not found it. It’s driving me crazy!

I feel like it was Little House on the Prairie but I cannot remember exactly. I read it probably like 15+ years ago. And I can’t find anything online about that being in the books. There was a scene where one of the women discovered she was pregnant bc she was hallucinating corn??? falling off the side of the barn. But it was like a western style setting one where there was so such thing as pregnancy tests yet. Please help! It’s eating me alive

I’m looking for a young adult novel I read in the 1990s.

Here’s everything I remember:

• The main character is Alexandra, usually called Alex.
• Her boyfriend’s name is Cliff.
• Early in the book she drops an ice cream cone, and Cliff starts calling her “Cone.” That nickname continues throughout the book.
• They’re in high school, and I think Cliff is a little older than Alex.
• Cliff starts out incredibly sweet, protective, and romantic, but over the course of the book becomes increasingly controlling, possessive, and emotionally abusive.
• Alex works as a summer camp counselor.
• They go to a fair/carnival together at one point.
• At the end, Alex finally breaks up with Cliff because his behavior escalates too far.
• In one of the last scenes, Cliff comes to her house and pounds on the front door, refusing to leave. Alex tells him something like, “If the neighbors don’t call the police, I will.”
• I read it in the 1990s, and I think it may have been a Scholastic, Laurel-Leaf, or Avon Flare paperback.

Hi! I’m a librarian and I’m stumped. To be fair, I’m a college librarian and know next to nothing about kidlit. This is a book that was read to me when I was very little, so early 1980s. The art was cottage core and lush. The art took up the whole two pages, from what I recall. At any rate there wasn’t any undecorated space. I wouldn’t be shocked if it won some award for the art. Adorable, but also beautiful. It was about making friends and not being caught up in your initial prejudices about someone. There were children? Woodland critters? Woodland critters who were children? Maybe I’m just imagining things but I think one of them was wearing a little mobcap? And they were afraid of the local badger (the English kind with the cute stripes) who was in hibernation or something. Things happened… I don’t know I was 3! Anyway in the end it was Spring and the badger had them over for crumpets and jam or something. Whatever it was it was served with jam. This book got me started on a lifelong fixation with berries and preserves and tea.

Help? It was a formative influence and I’d really like to reread it!

This was a chapter book from the library about 2 kids, I think a sister and brother, who found a magical map (or book?), and they may have released the monster from it. What I recall most clearly is that the way to defeat the monster was to get a metal horse bit into its mouth. They may have been able to magically travel by going into the map. The cover was blue with an illustration of a map on it, and I think it had the monster on the cover too. The monster might have been gray, humanoid, with sharp teeth and pointy ears, possibly wings. I read this book around 2002.

I have a feeling that the book’s name is just the girl’s name, though I’m not sure and wouldn’t put my life on it. I read the book sometime in the 2010s as a child. It was about a young girl who, after going to sleep, had a dream where someone told her she cannot speak or something will happen (to her family I’m pretty sure?). After that she stopped speaking to anyone. Her parents took her to therapists, spoke to her school counselors about it but she just went mute. I do think she ended up overcoming it and speaking again but I couldn’t be sure because I’m not sure I even read the book till the end lol. Any ideas?

so it was in a collection of stories i believe, the art in the book reminded me of shel silverstein which is why i looked for it under his name first but i couldn’t find anything. but the story i remember the most from that book was about a boy who was perfect and obedient but in the end its revealed that he’s a wind-up toy, and the narrator says something along the lines of “if only you were real”

Okay so I know that description applies to millions of books, therein lies the issue. I was probably six years old when I had this book and I remember the colors were really bright like neon. The only other thing I remember is there was a bear but it definitely wasn't the Berenstain Bears.

I read this book when I was roughly 11 or 12 years old, so roughly in the years 2018-2019. I feel like it was a teen book, just with some of the content. It features a girl who can see ghosts from many different times ( as far as I remember) and can see them through the window when she is at school. I vaguely remember her being in high school, but it's possible that she could have been finishing middle school too. It's possible that this book is actually the second book in a series, as it's mentioned a few times that she had died after something had happened but came back to life even though I don't remember that happening in this particular book. I also remember that she had a ghost that was a friend and he sort of materializes through dirt and moisture and is an older gentleman. She also had a male companion but I don't remember much about him. I remember a scene towards the end of the book where she goes on a field trip with class to a quarry and there's an issue with the "fault lines" ( Which I think is mentioned a few times beforehand) so when they're at this quarry thing at the end, she and the male companion and her ghost buddy kind of have to try and fix it and prevent havoc. When I read it, it was in English and it was a soft cover book that I have a very strong feeling had a noticeable green to it. My mother had bought it for me from what I remember and she also doesn't remember the name or author of it. Oh and it is a more modern day story as it features mobile phones and such, though I can't place roughly when, definitely after the mid 2000s in my opinion.

Set in a Nordic 15th century country with a boy gets threats to death to leave his prosperous farm because his abusive step dad is dead and his brothers claim the land. he then is taken by a captain, and the captain ships him around until he becomes a very strong man where he then is called he’s a god or has some powers, and he gets to this school where he thinks it’s all good, a powerful school or god’s school, and then he finds out one of the smartest teachers and oldest teachers that’s in trouble killed this girl in

I'm looking for a specific book of fairy tales I remember from when I was a kid. I was born in 1993 and I'm not exactly sure when we got the book or when it was published, but I definitely remember it existing prior to 2005 (and likely at least a few years prior to that). I can't remember what the cover looked like but the art style was very distinct and I'd recognize it instantly. All the faces were kind of stylized with big eyes, mostly wavy hair, and the cheeks had big round blush spots sometimes highlighted in gold. The illustrations in general had a lot of gold and silver in them as well. The backgrounds were dreamy/ethereal with lots of swirly elements.

There's only one fairy tale I very confidently remember being included in the book but I'm pretty sure the book had at least 5 or 6 total:

- Cinderella, but the version where her mother is a tree and sends birds to help her with the cleaning (I think they helped her pick up rice?) I remember an illustration of the whole tree.

At least one of the below two was definitely in the book, but one may have been an additional illustration I saw when I looked this up ~10 years ago and was able to find the author's website (thanks, enshittification of google!):

- a princess and the frog type story (with an illustration of a princess with her arms around a well and a gold ball at the bottom)

- and/or the story where the brothers turn into swans and she has to make nettle shirts for them (with an illustration of her face and black hair against an outstretched swan wing).

The two main parts I remember are the daughter and the mom washing their hair in the rain and it was the first book I read that had the word f*** in it as an expletive. I think it was the daughter who yelled at her parents?

I was probably 12 in the early 90s when I read it and I was a very sheltered kid. It made quite the impression on me 😊

Hi I read a book about 15 years ago that I cant remember what it was called but I really emphasized with since I was the same age as the main character. I remember she would always be at her family's pharmacy that still served milkshakes. She had a crush then her best friend started dating him. I think she was in journalism or something because she had this private journal or video that ended up getting shown to the entire school exposing her feelings with her crush (her best friends boyfriend) so she hid in the neighbors camper. During prom season she helped girls her age buy makeup at the pharmacy. I think the book cover had converse or lolipops or that was also in the book. Please help!

I read a series of books some time ago now and really cannot remember what they were called! Fantasy books and YA.

A few things stand out:

- A government or high-profile meeting where some people were assassinated or attempted to be assassinated.
- A diverse cast of characters, both good and bad.
- A reptilian king and queen of their race, who were likely killed and their crowns discarded.
- A variety of elemental magic (or perhaps other magic).
- The main female character, I believe, possessed magic but was unable to use it during her pregnancy. (**Update: I think she didn’t have magic initially but was a skilled fighter and acquired magical abilities after falling pregnant.**)
- some travelled in carriages pulled by something other than horses but I’m sure they could fly
- Near the series’ conclusion, they resided on a large farm estate and her parents were wealthy.
- almost adamant there were trolls in there
- magic may have been banned?!? Unless you were allowed

Looking for a UK children's picture book from before 2006. The authors visited Manor Primary School in Beechwood, Wirral, around 2002–2005 and gave every child a copy. The story definitely involves characters making nettle soup, possibly an old woman, and I remember the cover being mostly black or very dark. I vaguely remember a cat, but I may be mixing that up.

Alright so I don't remember much but what I do remember I believe would be unique to the book. So basically there was either a zombie apocalypse or some disease. The book starts midway in the apocalypse so it's been going on for awhile. The main thing I remember is that they all lived in a town that I believe was surrounded by a wall that people would guard. In the town they had a building where they would keep all the infected they would find outside the wall. Then normal people would go in and look for their family members/friends and take them home. The main character I believe, would go there often looking for their mom I believe? And when someone would take their family member home they'd be put in a collar. Idk, I don't remember too much but thats the general idea.

I believe that the main character ended up leaving and setting off on an adventure to her old house (her house before the apocalypse) to try and find her mom.

Additional thing: I believe I read this book in 2016-2018.

Hi friends! I read a book in middle school that had a plot similar to the movie Passengers. The main characters had been cryogenically frozen for some kind of space/time travel but one girl and one boy woke up too early. The only other thing I remember is the use of the title “Elder” when referring to other people on the ship. I don’t remember the cover at all, but my guy is saying maybe dark blue/purple? Could be wrong though. TIA!

I’m trying to ID a story I read in elementary school in the late 1980s (at a Catholic school in Boston, if that detail helps). It was a longer story at the end of an anthology/textbook that was otherwise made up of shorter stories. It was about a Native American boy who lived in the desert and I remember an illustration of him walking along some sort of rock formation. I believe his grandmother was in the story, and I vaguely remember something about the two of them covering long distances through the desert? The boy was following the grandmother. Hi everyone, I'm trying to find a children's chapter book I read in the 2010s. Here are all the specific plot points I remember:

• A young girl gets angry at her father and wishes that a monster or alien would eat him.
• Right after the wish, an alien comes down
• The alien/monster marks the father and gives him a countdown of a few days before returning to eat him.
• The family attempts to escape the house at night or the next morning. However, an invisible forcefield/barrier traps the dad inside while the rest of the family can freely walk outside, but the dad cannot leave.
• The girl goes on a journey up into the mountains to find a witch for help. When she arrives at the cottage, the witch is kind and helpful, brews/serves her hot tea, and helps her get a potion/counter-magic to break the barrier and save her dad before the countdown ends.
• Other Details: Simple middle-grade chapter book (not a picture book i think , but my imagination used to be sooo vivid i don’t remember if the pictures in my head were imagined or actually in the book), read in the 2010s. There might have been something related to jelly/slime (either the barrier texture or monster type).

I've been on the hunt for this cookbook for years. I'm looking for a cookbook (it could have been from late 80's, anytime in the 90's or possibly the early 00s). Most likely, it was from the 90's. It was a hardcover recipe book with glossy pages. I remember recipes for holidays all throughout the year (halloween, thanksgiving, christmas, valentine's, etc). I remember specifically a football cake recipe and a clown sundae recipe. For the life of me, I cannot find this anywhere. It may or may not have had blue and white in the cover (think Pillsbury but I can't find anything from Pllsbury that matches). I could be misremembering the color too. I also don't know if the entire book was dedicated to holidays and celebrations or only the second half of it. Let me know if this sounds familiar to anyone!

Heyho Book folks, I just wasted the last 2 hours to find a specific book I started reading a few months ago, but I cant, for the life of me, find it anymore. I can’t remember the plot completely but maybe anyone here is able to help me 😭 I think I got hooked up on it on Tiktok back then and looked it up, downloaded the first 2-3 chapters on my Kindle or so but I cant find it anywhere, maybe it was a not yet released book or a teaser from an author or something along those lines. Anyways, I would say it’s some sort of Dystopian setting, and the Book literally starts with the FMC’s POV of an super traumatizing event where she is fairly young (a child maybe?!). She is fleeing with her parents or relatives (?) from a fire or some sort of destruction or monster outbreak in her district. (man idk its been so long) I think something is collapsing and her relatives/parents get k-worded and she gets saved by a soldier/officer or whatever who catches her in the chaos. I think the dude that saves her has some sort of role later on. I believe she describes him as someone higher up in his ranks, and if Im not mixing it up with another story, she is developing some kind of power/magic??? Idk why but, I think she/her family is asian and they lived in some sort of colony? The story started really catchy and I think she joins some military forces where she meets the man, who saved her back then, again. But yeah idk, I might been mixing up some books with each other but Im quite sure about the traumatic experience and the soldier saving her like last minute. Maybe someone can help me 🥹
