Generators, portable or the permanent kind
Moved down from ohio about a year and a half ago and last hurricane season was our first real taste of losing power for days, sat in the dark with a cooler full of thawing groceries feeling like an idiot for not planning ahead. half the street has something, couple neighbors have the big permanent units bolted to a slab and a few just wrestle a portable out when it's coming. I keep flip-flopping the automatic whole-house thing sounds great and my wife's all for it, but I genuinely don't know what's involved past it turns on by itself and the pricing seems to swing wildly depending who I ask for anyone out here who went permanent, was it worth it, and what did it run you all-in once it was wired up and fueled, not just the number on the generator itself
