Dress / Attire Shopping Avoid L'fay Bridal at all Costs: Part 2

Following up on this post below. Please read the full post for context. I just had my fitting with the alterations specialist I'm using (the dress is starting to look much better by the way), and the alterations guy informed me my VIKTOR & ROLF $11,000 dress is MADE IN CHINA!!!!

Why is this such a shock you may ask?? Well because the sales associate at L'fay bridal that sold me the dress made a whole big deal how the dress is "custom made in Paris", and this is actually what sold me on the dress. I was still undecided about the dress but when I heard that, I thought to myself "oh my god, this is a sign!! My fiance and I love Paris and it was our first trip together as a couple! This is the universe telling me that this dress is meant to be".

L'fay is a bunch of scammers and liars. This is now the second lie I've caught them in (read the post for the lie about the veil). They repeatedly deceive customers and sell them an ideal that is not reality.

Venue Help Manhattan city hall green door destroyed

Post image
297 Upvotes

The iconic green door at Manhattan city hall has been cut apart and replaced with a brown painted metal door. I shot there on Thursday and it was intact then yesterday I gasped as I walked through and saw what they had done. I don’t know what would possess them to cut apart a 96 year old beautiful copper door to replace it with a brown utility door instead of fixing the other one. I know this post may be taken down because I’m not sure it fits ā€œvenue helpā€ but for the couples that expect that shot at the exit and the photographers that have taken thousands of pictures there, I wanted to let you know so you aren’t as surprised and saddened as I was.

Edit: There’s a comment below from a person that works in NYC historic preservation compliance who does not believe they would butcher the door. While the now covered door has been ugly for over a decade, who knows, maybe both sides will be beautiful again someday.

ISO - Vendors Allowed ISO clear glass bud vases

Looking for 20-30 and open to paying, but not more than $40-60.. I've been trying to thrift but I've literally only found two so far and my wedding is in exactly a month!

Ideally looking for a pretty simple and varied set - thus why I was trying to thrift them haha. Figured I'd ask here before I get too deep into eBay. Thanks all!!

Dress / Attire Shopping Bridal Dress on a Budget

Looking for reccomendations on where I could make an appointment in Manhattan to try on dresses with a budget of $1k (not including alterations). I'm open to vintage and sample dresses as well, but having trouble finding a good list because so many places I see reccomended have since closed, or get really mixed reviews, or only have 1 or 2 dresses in range. Open to any suggestions where folks have had a good experience!

Dress / Attire Shopping Reception only dress (not looking for a wedding gown!)

I'm having a reception in the fall (eloped in February) and I need a dress. Our dress code is "festive attire" and I'm thinking something bold in either gold or silver...or perhaps a gem tone. I want to stand out as the "bride" but I don't want to wear white. I've never attended a formal event in my life (not even prom!), so I don't even know where to start in terms of shopping...and I absolutely do not want to end up wearing the same thing as any of my guests lol. Recommendations for where to start? I'd really like to go somewhere that has great service as I have no idea what I am doing. Willing to spend up to a few thousand and I'm a size 6/8.

Dress / Attire Shopping Tux rental for Women

hi! I am a part of a black tie wedding in October this year on the grooms side, so will be wearing a tux as a woman and will be renting it. I was trying to do some research to see if there is a good rental spot that would be able to work for me with reviews or that specializes/caters to tux rentals for not just men, but haven't found much that isn’t thousands of dollars. I’m open to spending more than a traditional tux rental costs in order to get something that ends up fitting me well and looks good but just don’t want to break the bank or buy a tux.

Does anyone have recommendations for a company or store in NYC that does tux rentals for women? or if you’ve rented a tux from a men’s warehouse or black tux type of store, was the experience with fitting/measurements actually successful for the final product?

I have little knowledge about suits/tuxes and also do not know my measurements so will need to go have those done. thanks in advance!

Venue Help Struggling to find a venue

Hi I’m getting married in the summer of 2027. We don’t have a specific date yet but that’s our time frame.
We’re trying to find a venue that can accommodate us and is affordable enough where it won’t hurt us in the future. So my fiancĆ© and me, our dads are splitting the costs down 50/50. It’s gonna be about 200 guests, and south asian.
- I’m trying to find a venue within the nyc area, not farther than a 1-2 hour drive (because his family will be coming in from Omaha),
- that allows outside catering or has adequate halal options,
- has an indoor outdoor space,
- and has like a bridal/groom suite for us to get ready in.

I’m the eldest daughter this is like our family’s show off and out wedding, I want it to be nice and beautiful.

Any suggestions is greatly appreciated!

Venue Help YSK Bridgepoint - DUMBO rooftop venue for under 3.5k!

Not sponsored, just a fan and I feel like I’ve found a gem! It’s the first time in awhile I’ve been pleasantly surprised by a venue’s price! Bridgepoint in Dumbo. The rates for rentals range from 1.6k - 3k and it had a small, airy room and a huge rooftop with string lights. It’s perfect for a dinner or a ceremony. 30-40 is the sweet spot - or more if you only want to use the outside and don’t do an indoor dinner.

Only thing is no amplified music outside except for the ceremony which is a dealbreaker for a whole regular wedding reception. It’s it’s in the BK venues network so they’ll sometimes give deals if you book a ceremony and a reception venue through them.

Venue Help Eclectic Venues in NYC?

Hi all! I have seen posts similar to this, but none quite answer my question. I am looking for unconventional venues, but I don't mean some fancy hotel or restaurant that has a patio. I mean FUNKY. I mean ECLECTIC. Think Museum of the Moving Image, Coney Island Aquarium, etc. Stuff with really unique features/design/additions. If budget didn't matter, where would you suggest?

ISO - Vendors Allowed Looking for Central Park proposal photographer!!

Life got in the way of a more structured proposal, but need a photographer for next week on either 28th evening, 29th, or 30th. My budget is up to 600$ for one hour. (due to urgency, willing to spend a bit more!) Need to rely on your expertise on best timing/location, as I haven’t lived in NYC for over two decades now. Just needs to be a surprise for my soon to be fiancĆ©, so setting up a location beforehand would be great!

Please contact me or leave your information below, I am in the hotseat now and willing to be flexible!!

Dress / Attire Shopping Upcycling Wedding Dress?

Does anyone know of shops in the city (or even elsewhere in the tri-state! I'm willing to travel) that will dye and alter a wedding dress so it can be used as a formal gown?

If it helps/for reference, this is my dress: https://www.instagram.com/p/DaGjyl3jJsU/?img_index=10

Before anyone asks about preservation, I tore the train pretty badly and theres some footprints on the inner liner (eek!), so I figure I might as well start chopping off material anyway.

Venue Help Afterparty venue for 25-30ppl West Village

We’re doing a small restaurant wedding this Nov in the West Village for 30 people that will end at 11pm. I’d like to book another space for two hours (11pm-1am) after the wedding dinner so we can play some fun music, dance, chat, have a few drinks, and end the night on a high note. Any recommendations?

Budget: $2-3k
Vibe: ideally some seating and room to dance, not picky about dive bar vs classy spot

Venue Help Lunch/Dinner Recs for small celebration after elopement (affordable)private or semi private

Me and my Fiance are eloping in September, we just invited close family and closest friends since my family is not in the states. It will be around 12-15 (maybe 15) people.Anywhere in manhattan or maybe Downtown Brooklyn or Dumbo would be perfect. We’re just looking for a nice intimate meal with our closest ones. Private or semi private is ideal. It will be on a Monday idk if that will reduce our options for good restaurants(?). We also don’t want to feel overdressed since we will be wearing our suits n dresses (nothing too crazy).

Pre fix menu is preferable. Half the group doesn’t drink so idk if I should even consider like a drink packed or smth. Our budget would be like nothing more than $120pp (with or without drinks). I would love to get smth like unlimited drinks for like 1 hour or smth similar. I truly have no idea what should I do lol.

I would love to hire like an event planner to at least decorate the table maybe print menus if needed, so a place that lets me to that would be perfect. We still want out elopement to feel special even if our budget is not too crazy. We love steakhouses, Italian, French, Latin food, even (if we can’t find anything else) American food.

Thankssss I appreciate any recs and suggestions!!

ISO - Vendors Allowed Invites and Day of Paper

Hi! We are looking for recommendations for a stationer who can help us with invites and day of paper. We’re looking for someone all inclusive who can do printing and assembly as well.

We need approximately 95 invites and have 160 total guests, with a budget of around $5K for everything. Most quotes I’ve gotten are above 7!

Wedding Recap/Budget Breakdown Our experience with Leigh & Co / Events by Loving (3-month coordination)

Got married a few weeks ago and reviews on this sub helped us so much during planning, so wanted to pay it forward. Unfortunately this one’s a negative review.

We booked Leigh & Co for 3-month coordination after really good intro calls with them. The coordinator we got assigned was Jacey (Events by Loving). Our first call with her felt off tbh, but we figured we were just being anxious about the wedding. Should’ve trusted our gut.

Where to start. We were told communication would kick off 4 months out. Never happened — we ended up reaching out to her ourselves a little under 3 months before the wedding. Then radio silence on the timeline until 3 weeks out, and it didn’t actually get finalized and sent to vendors until 2 weeks before, and that’s only because we gave her a hard deadline. Meanwhile our vendors were texting us stuff like ā€œwait, who’s your coordinator?ā€ because nobody had contacted them. Our DJ heard from her a week out. A WEEK.

And honestly the timeline she ā€œmadeā€ā€¦ if you open the version history on the doc, like 95% of it was written by someone in our own wedding party. We were also promised a finalized floor plan that we never got — we showed up to a meeting 2 weeks before the wedding expecting to review a draft and instead watched her make it on the spot. Every time we asked her to confirm some detail, the answer was ā€œI’ll take care of it,ā€ and then guess who took care of it.

Day of was more of the same. Bridal party got zero direction — they asked totally normal questions like what order to walk out after the ceremony and how to stand at the altar and were told ā€œdon’t overcomplicate it.ā€ Cool, thanks. Nobody ran the timeline, my family was the one cueing people all night. She was supposed to bring us a plate during cocktail hour (we specifically agreed on this) and instead got food for herself first — we ate maybe 45 min in. Then at the end of the night she just… left. No wrap-up, no here’s-what’s-left. She was contracted for 10 hours, fine, but a 2-minute handoff isn’t a big ask.

Basically we planned and ran our own wedding and also had one extra guest to babysit.

What actually made me write this post though is how Leigh & Co handled it after. We laid everything out and asked for a partial refund. From what they told us, their ā€œreviewā€ was talking to Jacey (the person we complained about??), Jacey’s assistant, and our venue manager, who wasn’t around for any of the pre-wedding stuff. They never asked to see the timeline version history or the vendor texts. Then came back with $650 on a $2750 package.

So, would not recommend Leigh & Co or Events by Loving. If your first call with your coordinator feels off, listen to that feeling. And get every deliverable + deadline in writing. Have receipts for all of the above if anyone wants details.

The dress is located in Brooklyn. I am happy to ship but, pickup is preferred, and a serious buyer may arrange a try-on. I’m happy to provide additional photos, measurements, and proof of purchase.

ISO - Vendors Allowed Floral Help (budget $3k ish) I don't want "arranged" Should I DIY or find someone?

Thumbnail gallery
2 Upvotes

So this might sound confusing but hopefully it makes sense.

Wedding is May2027 at a restaurant ( single location- cocktail hour, small quick ceremony outside and dinner).

Looking to do a personal bouquet, 2-3 ceremony "arrangements", one for the bar and a few for the tables ( 40 people so 4 rectangle :: possibly 5 round:: tables). Maybe a few extra for around the room, but no wedding party florals etc.

The issue is I don't want "arranged" flowers, I like an abundance of the same flower grouped together ( adding pictures as I know this might not make sense) I love right before the flowers are put together, when they are in the vase alone, next to other flowers. How do I convey that to a florist or should i just do this DIY to not drive someone else crazy.

( I do realized these are still "arranged"- as they take work and effort- I just didn't know how to explain it any other way. my apologies. Photos are for examples not 100% the color or type of flowers I'm looking for)

Thanks for any advice in advance.

ISO - Vendors Allowed ISO of Vendors + Budget Help (120-130K)

Hi everyone! I seen a lot of great recs on this subreddit but wanted to reach out iso of some help for my own wedding.

I am a July 2027 bride getting married in Chelsea with 200ish guests. Our budget is around 130K and we are spending about $70K for venue + f/b + after party. I am in search of the following: photographers/videographers, florals, band/dj, wedding dress, and anything else you all think would be good to add on.

For photographer/videographer: i like clean portraits/b+w and film shots. I also really like the look of something like this floral arrangement for the ceremony and am curious what this would cost or how fake florals would look with this etc.

I really am all over the place and would love any help or just recs as yall all seem to have great taste.
