As you can see we don't have a banner. If you have any good shots from around the heights post them here and we'll see which everyone likes the best! Looking to update the profile pic too.

Desktop Banner: 1920 × 384 px (5:1 aspect ratio)

Mobile Banner: 1600 × 480 px (10:3 aspect ratio)

Profile Pic: 256 x 256 px (1:1 aspect ratio)

File Type: PNG

Max File Size: 500 KB

I think I got the requirements right but correct me if I'm wrong.

Thanks!

I see they have some electrical work going on. Haven't heard anything about who actually leased it and what it's going to be if anyone knows or heard anything.

W 158th & Riverside

Looking a potentially moving to an apartment in this area, on W158 between Riverside E and Riverside W. I know 158th is an entrance to the Henry Hudson Pkwy, but beyond that I'm not familar with the area. I visited and it did sort of seem like street intended to enter the the freeway. Mostly curious what the of this pocket area is day-to-day. Pros/Cons, etc. Thanks!

Everyday Life Dolphin Park

Dolphin Park is located on the corner of 180th and Cabrini Blvd. Just advertising again as this park recently opened and is great for toddlers. It has a sprinkler and a jungle gym, and an attendant to ensure that only adults who are with children are in the park.

It's open 10-4p every day weather permitting. Break away cafe is right across the street and has a restroom.

Vibe of intersection of St. Nicholas & W 163rd

Hi all, applying for an apartment around this intersection and was hoping some locals could give me an overview of the vibe, including how it is at night. I’m moving from out of town so slightly limited in my ability to sus out the area, though a friend did look at the apt for me during the day. For context I’m a small woman but very used to urban living. Thank you!

happened to be walking by and noticed it was closed and empty with this poster. Did the lease expir or did they not pay for rent? I feel there's a story here.

What do you check before signing a lease in Washington Heights?

I've been apartment hunting in Washington Heights and usually find places through StreetEasy. Before applying, I've also started checking addresses through StreetSmart along with the usual public records.

What does everyone else check before signing a lease? Any red flags or things you always look up?

Neighborhood problems with Spectrum?

Have used them for years without issues and suddenly this month dealing with outages every other day and near constant latency issues.

Diagnosing these problems can be a pain but at this point I've tested my equipment and am fairly certain it's not a problem on my end.

Are other people having issues, too? Might be the excuse I need to switch to FiOS.

Helicopter With Floodlight

Anyone know why there is a helicopter flying back and forth over the Hudson River with a floodlight oscillating back and forth? It is south of the GWB. I tried to take a picture but my camera is bad in low light.

Free High School Program at NYU

The Endless Frontier Labs Young Ambassadors (YA) Program helps NYC high schoolers discover a direction, providing free exposure to entrepreneurs, scientists, engineers, healthcare innovators and business leaders at NYU Stern Business School. Students will shadow MBA students and world-class startups to experience how new companies are built. This is a free program with no GPA or experience requirement. Students do not need to already have a business idea or projected career path to benefit from this experience. This program isn't about teaching students to become entrepreneurs. It's about helping them discover what's possible by allowing them to explore their future past what is available to them in high school. Young Ambassadors will see how startups scale and how founders approach complex problems in a wide variety of industries.

Students choose 1 of 4 tracks: Life Sciences (medicine, biotech, vaccines); Digital Tech (apps, video games, AI tools); Deep Tech (robotics, climate tech, hardware systems); and Digital Health (tools used in healthcare like apps, wearable tech). Then students can choose to attend 1 or 3 of the EFL meetings for that track. There are both in-person and virtual meeting options. Selected students will receive a letter excusing their absence from class. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. Open to all NYC high school students. Please share this opportunity with the high schoolers you know!

Loud bomb-like bang in Hamilton Heights July 9 5:15 PM

Was anyone near 156th and Amsterdam today around 5:15 PM and hear the huge bang and smoke go off?

It shook the ground and was smoking after. It seemed to come from underground. I can’t find any updates about that. Any ideas what it was.

Highway Noise on Haven Avenue

A couple of weeks ago, I made a post about a noisy metal plate on the highway exit ramp outside that was make a tremendous noise whenever cars passed over it, especially during the morning rush hour. My original 311 complaint was passed along to the New York State Department of Transportation. NYDOT told me that because the ramp came off the GW Bridge, it belonged to the Port Authority's jurisdiction. An email to the Port Authority just told me they were forwarding my complaint to the GWB management team.

I feel like I've exhausted my options on people to email and call. Councilwoman Carmen De La Rosa was unreachable by email or phone at any of her offices.

Would love to hear any other feedback or advice on ways to get this fixed. It's not a safety concern but it's a horrible noise issue that's become louder than any combination of white noise machines and earplugs. I've accepted that loud engine noise and motorcycle rumbling is a part of life but this consistent thunk thunk thunk like i'm living next to a train track that's always got traffic is insane. What else can I try?

Also in general, I'd love to hear if other people facing the river on Haven Avenue are hearing this noise?

Exact Location of the Metal Plate (if anyone has ideas)

🦠 DO NOT EAT HERE 🐀🪳

So recently someone posted about the Hudson Thai spot (yes…the one with the roach that looked like it had been waterboarded in fish sauce then cooked 🤢), and it got me thinking about the cleanliness of some of the other places I’ve eaten in Washington Heights.
Funny enough, about two weeks ago I commented on another thread explaining why I no longer eat at the two Chinese restaurants closest to me: Great Wall (181st & Fort Washington) and New Golden Star (181st & Broadway).

I had terrible experiences at both, and after seeing the Hudson Thai post, I figured I’d see what the Department of Health had to say.

Y’ALL…

Please start looking up these restaurants before ordering from them.

I’m not originally from New York and I’ve only been here for about four years, and I literally just found out that NYC has a public website where you can look up every restaurant’s inspection history, violations, and current grade status. The Health Department publishes inspection results for restaurants citywide through its ABCEats database. (NYC Home 4)

I checked New Golden Star’s inspection history, and what I found was enough for me to make sure I never go back. Their Department of Health page currently shows a Grade Pending status, and the violations listed are UN. REAL. (See the screenshots.)

I’m not here to tell anyone where they should or shouldn’t eat. Spend your money however you want. But if you’re ordering from somewhere regularly, it’s worth taking 30 seconds to check their inspection history first. I know I will from now on.

Stay safe out there, Heightsers? Heighties? Highs?? and please use this tool before trying a new spot:

NYC Department of Health ABCEats Restaurant Inspection Lookup
