Can someone explain Assams character to me? I just finished S1.

He came to chinatown to look for his sister but now he realises even tho he fucked up her situation and needed her to marry a tyrant, she has found a place for herself and worked for it. Why does he not just apologize for what he did all those years ago and join the long zi, explicitly just for her?

Instead he gets mad at her for furthering her own goals after the path she was set on was his own fault... like obviously she didnt want to kill her brother but he was becoming an obstacle in her business and was actively preventing her clan from getting successful.

Please explain what the hell is going on right now...

we don't know what happened to too many of the characters specially the ones who appeared in the last 10 minutes.

also i love the parallel at the end when ah sahm i should've fought to protect you in the beginning of the series and now he actually did.

What I Would Do For This Show

If I was a head of a big network, I would renew this show for at least 2 more seasons then pull a Peaky Bliinders move by concluding Warrior with a movie.

It needs one more.

Whether or not it gets it, the right thing to do for a series like this, especially considering the post-Warrior growth of both Andrew Koji and Joe Taslim, would absolutely to be to bring it back for a final season. One that TRULY can bookend the major story arcs.

On Penelope Blake

So I was wondering. How old was Penelope when she married the mayor? Was it ever implied in the show how many years she is married to him during the events of the show? How old do you think she is?

Loved the show but ending was Anti-Climatic

Ive just finished season 3 and there are so many plotholes left ...

  1. Chaos fate

  1. Whats next for ah sam and mai ling

  1. Especially about penelope...season 2 ending she was falsly declared mental and got admitted in the asylum. Whats her situation now they havent shown in even season ...at least Ah sahm would be worried about her absence based on the history they shared and the murder of her husband.

  1. What about Walter Buckley..this damm guys fate was just abandoned when he was the main one dealing with Mai and causing all the ruckus.

  1. The political chaos all around b/w the chinks and the Irish. So much story development regarding these issues were carried out and lot of lore was poured into this matter in each and every episode from season 1 to season 2 and they just abandoned this story while coming to season 3 ending.

I absolutely friggin loved banshee and Warrior too was a masterpiece but istg I hated when they left so many scenarios and fates unattended.

I cannot believe it took me so long to finally watch this show but I'm blown away by how amazing the story is. I'm on s3 e8 and I have loved every second of this show. The revenge and plotting is what I love the most. The fact actors did 99% of their fighting scenes and stunt work absolutely shows in the best of ways. I know I'm going to find myself wanting more after it ends!

Any recs on other movies/TV shows like this? Thanks!

Edit: I just want to add, im from California, very close by to SF. The things I've learned in school and by visiting museums makes me appreciate this shows historical accuracy especially even more. Obviously a lot is dramatized but the political issues were very real. Just really amazing 👏

Following a brutal crime committed by a Sudanese migrant, the protesters in Belfast, UK, are going house to house in the immigrant-dominant area in order to look for migrants and evict them, while also destroying immigrant-owned business.

Dont read if you havent seen the whole series!

Iam not really into martial art movies or series, but this was more than that. It had great characters that you actually cared about or hated.

The only problem I had by the end was Ah Sahm. Sometimes in life, for many people friends or in this case, a brotherhood is more family then your real family. He was taken in by the Hop Wei, they saved his life. The chemistry and friendship that Ah Sahm and Young Jun got during the show was one of the best parts. And when Hong was added the trio was the best part of the series.

Mai Ling almost killed him. That she even entertained the idea should have been enough to make him break the bond that used to be. She was another woman now, not the little Sister he once had.

Mai Ling was a narcisistic evil b*tch. I understand he didnt want her dead, but at some point she would have killed him if she got another chance.

Young Jun was always loyal to Ah Sahm. He would have died for him. While Ah Sahm truly didnt see what he got in Young Jun. He lost a sister, but got a brother. Was it right of Young Jun to go after his Sister in the end? Well yes, thats how the Tongs worked. And finally the Hop Wei would become the most powerful Tong again. Young Jun even said he didnt need to come along.

Mai Ling just had it coming after all she had done.

But it was even Ah Sahm that made it come to that. With him fcking up his entire betrayal. Yes Chao helped that happen by saying to that black gang where the plates was. But Ah Sahm going to Chao was a stupid idea in the first place. Chao was basically the last person you could trust in the entire "town".

So I see him as someone that just use people for his own gain. He didnt see past himself, sort of still living in a "fantasy" on the farm with his Sister.

I guess he might have been the character that stayed the same through all seasons.

In the end it boils down to your own thoughts on 1 Key element of the show, which was the relationship between him and his sister. If your sister or brother almost said yes to you being killed. Would you ever forgive the person? Talk to her again? I would definitly not. I would break all ties. I would feel sadness, anger, and hate. He did not. Which makes the situation feel a bit un-natural (if thats even a word).

Apart from his many flaws and irrational behavior I atill liked him as the main character. The best fighter etc. In normal Hollywood ways of the fate of the "hero" it would make you believe that he in the end should become the leader. Though this show didnt make it feel like that. Maybe if it went on for more seasons.

I felt it was about finding a place to belong. A brotherhood. Friends that would do anything for you. Like Young Jun and Hong. They didnt deserve what happened. They were betrayed and Ah Sahm was in the wrong here. He became the anti-hero instead. Anyways...

Some short words on the rest:

- I liked the two cops. They were great together

- I hated Buckley more than Mai Ling even. He was just a horrible man. But he had real character development. And by the end I sort of liked him.

- Ah Toy was likeable up until the farm lady came along. Her arc became boring. And I have nothing against lesbians. Thats my thing if I end up on an 18+ webpage. So its not because of that.

Then there is an important part that I really liked. It was that they really showed how cruel and racist the americans was towards the chinese. They really looked at them as animals. And if you read about how they really was treated its absolutely horrible.

I also have a question regarding Irish people. They go on and on about the companies hirering american workers. But when they go to the bar in their own part of town they are first and foremost...Irish. And its in every show they appear in. I get it, you should be proud of where you come from. But are you Irish or american? And that is very typical in Italians, and latins also. I guess it is because its such a young nation. Specially at that time. Well, when it comes to Leary I never really liked him. A issue I had with his part was that he asked for labour for the Irish asking them to hire 45 men, or 17 etc. While there was 4k Irish in San Francisco during that time. No way he could represent the entire Irish immigrants from his pub. And he seems to be the only member of the Workingmens Party. And I didnt like how the others treated him. Like he would solve their problem all on his own while they sat on their asses all day waiting for him to tell them he found a job for 3 guys and all the Irish was saved for a while.

Well sorry for this long rant. If you got this far, wow. I just had to get it out.

I sound very negative now (probably because Iam having a very bad period myself), but believe me, I really loved the show. I rate it 9/10.

With the piss poor ending (imo) if there was a season 4 it should continue with Ah Sahm and Mai Ling reunited and lead the Long Zii together. And with a new ending he would realize what a horrible evil person she had become, and unite together again with Young Jun and Hong to get rid of her.

Thank you

What is the theme that played in S2E9 right before the Chinatown fight? Spoiler

Scene in question:

Li Yong and the Long Zi joining the Hop Wei to prepare to defend Chinatown. Looking for that specific cowboy spaghetti BGM that played before they set off against the Irish.

First time watching season 3 - only the last episode remains and I can’t bring myself to watch it

I watched the first 2 seasons in 2021. When Season 3 came, because of some shitty licensing issue in my country it wasn’t on any streaming service.

Finally got it a few months back. I restarted season 2, because the show is really good and I didn’t just want to watch a shitty recap of season when I can rewatch it to prepare myself for season 3.

Now, on season 3, as others have pointed out, it’s not that engaging for me. The story is excellent, but the fight scenes are way less.

Now, just finished the penultimate episode, and only the last episode remains. And without the next season on the horizon or a movie, I feel I’ll be left hanging. Too much remains.

I’ve managed to keep away from spoilers for so long, but everything is coming to an end.

I don’t have any questions or theories, just speaking my heart out since there’s no one else to talk to about this show.

Wtf happend to Ah Sahm in S3?

In seasons one and two, Ah Sahm was the engine of the story. Even when the show cut away to other characters, everything still centered around him.

Then season three comes, where the show starts treating him more like a piece of an ensemble instead of the emotional center. It shifted to politics, labor conflicts, Leary's movement, Mai Ling's power games, Buckley, etc. So because of all that, Ah Sahm spends most of the time reacting instead of driving the plot.

Andrew Koji's charisma is a MASSIVE part of what made the show work in the beginning. Without that, it falls apart.

Even his fights feel different in season three. The previous two seasons framed his fights like a personal, emotional, and ideological expression. Season three just says "oh silly us! We forgot Ah Sahm has to fight this episode!"

The crazy part? After his setup from season two, Ah Sahm had a hell amount of potential!

Obviously, I'm a bit biased, since I got into it for the martial arts action, more specifically for Andrew Koji and Joe Taslim. Then I got hooked into the story and loved following Ah Sahm. Now, there's a wider scope that loses my attention.
