Language Help Meeting my close friends parents
Hi everyone. I’m an American phd student in the US and my close friend here is from Hanoi. His parents are coming to visit and they don’t speak English. I’ve been trying to learn some basic greetings and phrases from him recently in Vietnamese and he’s really excited to teach me and that I want to learn. However, his parents are coming (many months from now) and I really want to surprise him by being able to greet them and speak to them a little. I know that respect is major. Can anyone share some important phrases or things to say to them in a northern dialect? Other than respectful greetings and introducing myself, I really want to be able to emphasize how much I appreciate my friend and how good of a person he is, that they raised a great son, etc (though please let me be clear in a totally platonic way!). Thank you so much for any help! 🙏
