I'm making a new account to practice new agents on and use before I use my main account. I do not wish to buy accounts as this is against ToS. The issue is making a new account takes a little while and so I wanted to see how long it would take to reach level 20. I decided to test this solely with swiftplay as this is a quick format which does allow plenty win bonus opportunities.
To get to level 20, you need 95,000 AP points.
To keep the estimate consistent, I excluded the First Win of the Day (+4,000 AP for when i tested) since it depends entirely on how often someone logs in. Including it would make the results vary a lot between players. Used calculation help with AI.
AP Formula
After tracking multiple of my Swiftplay matches, the AP gain appears to be very consistent:
- Time played: ~0.671 AP per second
- Equivalent to: ~40.26 AP per minute
- Win bonus: +200 AP
- Losses: No win bonus
So the estimated formula is:
AP = (Time in seconds × 0.671) + 200 AP if you win
Average Swiftplay game
From the matches I tracked, an average Swiftplay lasts around 12 minutes.
- 12 minutes = 720 seconds
- 720 × 0.671 ≈ 483 AP
Assuming you lose every game (no +200 AP win bonus):
95,000 ÷ 483 ≈ 197 Swiftplay games (approximately 40 hours of gaming)
Including Queue Times we're looking at approximately 46-49 hours of gaming
Conclusion
Using only Swiftplay to reach Account Level 20:
Optimistic (longer matches and/or decent win rate):
- ~160 games
- ~35–40 hours
Average estimate:
- ~200 games
- ~46–50 hours
Essentially the best way to do this would be to make every game a 5-4 game so that you maximise the time spent in each game which would help you get more AP. If every game was 15 minutes, it would take 160 games to reach level 20 even if you lost all of them.
The win bonus significantly reduces your time needed to play so I would incorporate that as much as you can.

What if you win 50% of your games?
The previous estimate assumes you lose every game, meaning you never receive the +200 AP win bonus. In reality, most players will eventually settle around a 50% win rate.
With a 50% win rate, the average win bonus becomes:
200 AP × 50% = 100 AP per game
So instead of earning approximately 483 AP per match, you'd average 583 AP per game. This can mean you only need to play around 163 games to reach level 20.
My Conclusion
If you play 5 swifts a day and win half along with getting the first win of the day bonus...it'll take you around 3 weeks to get level 20. 10 swifts a day and you'll be done in 14 days.
Alot of people make the decision to buy an account for 3 Euros because they cannot be bothered to make this new account.
By increasing the difficulty of making a second account, Riot has effectively pushed players into a situation where they would rather buy an account for 3 Euros and then replace this every few months when it eventually gets banned.
If you needed a second account would you spend 3 weeks playing swiftplay games? or would you pay 3 or 4 Euros to buy an account ready for what you need it for?
