I just need some help I was fired in December for
Some BS but . My union guy told me the day of the investigation that if we lose that it would just go to arbitration and that I’ll get back pay when we win my arbitration case . Since then I have heard nothing at all . Called the union rep and he told me it’s gonna take a lot more time for me to go to arbitration and it’s already been 7 months . I honestly just need some reassurance because I just wanna be back on the train . Side not I worked for UP Wisconsin terminal

My dads about to retire from UP after 35 years of being a heavy equipment operator and wondered if anyones ever heard of some good gifts in the industry. He’s already got a very old train bell and whistle he shined up himself.

Your crew rooms are being monitored in council bluffs since your service unit was absorbed. The people watching your cameras have your employee picture and name printed out if you’re on duty. I think they’re watching your time out the door, lunch breaks, etc.

Recently got hired on at UP for train conductor. I will be starting my first week of OJT. Just curious on how other conductors organize all there books and paperwork to make life easier. Also if you could give me any tips to learning I would appreciate it.

I am in the interview process for UP, and I am being considered for a couple terminals. A couple of questions that will help me determine where to go if I do receive an offer:

1) If furloughed, can I work in other hubs or areas if I am willing to, or would it be better to pick the “tougher” location with less chance of that like Boone vs CA for example?

2). Are location transfers a thing? I read about swapping with other conductors, but in general, if I started in Texas but wanted to move to Rolesville is that possible?

I was offered the position for Road conductor. I know senority is crazy high here. I live in Northwest Indiana. What are the chances ill actually work the provisio yard to Clinton, Iowa run? Or to Milwaukee? They also mentioned Rochelle, South Pekin ( Peoria ) and Belevedere etc. But all those yards are 2-3.5hrs away.

Could someone explain this or share their opinion based on this? I passed my preemployment test so I didn’t have to do that but for the most recent one, they said they’re going to move forward, but the last one it still says that I was invited to do my interview even though I’ve completed it already and I’ve been waiting since

i was just looking for some insight. My husband recently was offered a job through UP for train men. His training starts in a couple weeks and ends just a couple weeks before our baby is born. Is it completely unrealistic to think the managers will work with us for an induction date?

side note : i am a railroad daughter. i understand seniority and the schedule so it’s okay you don’t need to scare me i already know i will be alone a lot, i know he will be gone alot. i just wasn’t sure if there was anything for extraordinary circumstances. i’ll make do if not, it’s just our first child and i just want to mentally prepare myself.

Well, yesterday was 6 weeks since the hearing and still no word .
I recon since the 6 week thing wasn’t accurate then I recon it’s gonna be one of those railroad situations …

I’ve gotten a couple of job offers and didnt pass my physical due to the hang test. I’m now in much better shape and practice the hang test on my on accord and have no problem with it now. I’m in pretty good shape now but I’m not sure if I will get another job offer since I’ve failed it multiple times. Really need and have been wanting to work for UP for a while but didn’t realize how hard the hang test was until I failed it. Everytime was due to heart rate exceeding the limit. Is there anyone out there that applied and got offered more than 3 or more times?

Do people even fail the main test they give you? Everyone says it’s easy if you pay attention but how do people fail?

Am i able to be rehired if i was just having attendance issues during my 14 weeks training?

Asking for a friend of mine who’s thinking of quitting UP, is there anything he/she needs to keep in mind?

I’m aware two week notices aren’t really a thing on the railroad but my friend is planning to layoff a few times while he goes on vacation and he plans to go over on his points. All in hopes to extend his health insurance a little while longer.

Anyone have any insight or experience into this?
