What gives away a website as fully vibe-coded?

11 Upvotes

I want to be able to present a client with like, reasons I ACTUALLY designed a site by hand, by comparing it to some bad examples.

things I can think of:

* eyebrows

  • dark mode
  • hard to read, tiny text
  • really generous spacing between components
  • horizontal scroll bars through menus (?)
  • bright left-aligned or top-aligned bars on dark backgrounds
  • Fraunces font for quirky stuff, Inter font for everything else
  • AI generated slop text (obviously) but also specifically
    • AI overexplainer text. ("Not sure what to do? Click here. Does x. Does y. Not vibe coded.")
  • IBM Blex Mono and JetBrains Mono all over the place
  • goddamn interpuncts or whatever those little dots are called
  • color scheme 1: Beige + red and brown
  • color scheme 2: purples and dark colors

I generally avoid all that shit when i'm making sites, but i see it everywhere these days and it drives me crazy!!! I just want to show my clients that like, "hey. we actually give a shit. you can just tell claude to make you a website but it'll look like This."

Why EXPENSIVE things are "HEAVY" - Even in UX (iPhone Pro)

2 Upvotes

Made a short video about this.

Plastic card = 5g,
metal = 15–19g, same function

In many cases weight is just there to feel premium. Since iPhone 7 the home button never moves, a motor fakes the click, because no resistance feels cheap.

If you're in tech and keep meaning to build side projects after work but don't, what is it that stops you? Aside from the tiredness...
