Hi everyone! I'm a UVU student taking MAT-1030, and I need a few more responses for a class project. My survey is anonymous, only has 7 questions, and takes less than 2 minutes to complete. I'd really appreciate your help! Thank you!

Question Does anyone know anything about the new UVU president?

I've been trying to find information about this new fellow Dr Jon Anderson and how his time as PennWest president went, and aside from some vague Facebook posts and an unhelpful description on the PennWest site, I can't find anything about this fellow's leadership style and what his colleagues/students think of him

Linda Shelton is teaching this course and they need a few more students. I can say that once you take this class, for the rest of your life you are going to understand things about the language and the way we talk in America that will remain with you. Linda is a highly rated teacher, and the class isn't brutal.

Major help

I’m currently a student at slcc. I was going to major in Digital media with an emphasis on multimedia but that major was discontinued before I could declare. My plan is to complete my generals at slcc and transfer here for the digital media stuff. I would love to go into broadcasting or video editing. Do you guys have any suggestions for classes to take now or what major I should choose when I transfer? I graduated high school in 2025 so this will be my second year in college.

UVU students: Looking for a meaningful volunteer opportunity in Utah County?

Hi everyone! I wanted to share a volunteer opportunity that I think could be a great fit for UVU students.

I help with Utah State University’s 4-H Mentoring program, and we’re currently looking for volunteer mentors in Utah County. Many of our mentors are college students or young professionals who want to make a difference but don’t have a ton of extra time.

Mentors spend about an hour a week with one youth mentee (ages 9–15), doing things like grabbing a treat, hiking, playing games, working on homework, or just being another positive adult in their life. You don’t need any previous mentoring experience, we provide training and support, and it’s flexible enough to work around classes and work schedules.

One of my favorite parts of the program is seeing kids gain confidence simply because someone consistently shows up for them. It’s amazing what one caring relationship can do.

If mentoring isn’t for you, we also have openings for youth in the program. If you know a family in Utah County with a child ages 9–15 who could benefit from having a caring mentor, we’d love to connect with them. The program is free for families.

I am happy to answer any questions about what mentoring is actually like, the application process, or the time commitment!

Question CK Witness Victim support

My boyfriend goes to UVU and was a witness of the C.K event and the PTSD is getting worse. I know these types of events effect no one person the same.
I don’t know what to do at this point of how to help/support him. Everything in the book I’ve done. I figured I’d reach out on here and maybe see if I could get insight…
Is there in-person group therapy somewhere for this event specifically? Or just anything??
I deeply apologize if this appears insensitive. I care so much and I am trying my best.
Let me know… I also apologize for your experience if you were in attendance as well. TIA

Question Easy Botany elective

Hi all,
I’m a bio major, intending to move into healthcare. Any advice on botany classes where I can secure a fairly easy A? I’m headed into first semester of O Chem and I’ve also got Micro, as well as a fine arts class. For all you plant-folks out there, I’ve got a lot of respect for ya, but it’s not something I plan to be focusing on heavily in the future, and my GPA could use a little boost.
The classes that would fulfill the requirement are:
BOT 2050 (Field Botany)
2100 Flora of Utah
2400 Plant Kingdom
3340 Plant Bio
3800 Ethnobotany
and the rest are 4000 level courses.

Would appreciate any advice you’ve got to give

Prospective Student Question Is it easy or difficult to find friends at UVU?

Hey everyone so I moved to Utah a few months ago and I don’t know anyone here. Would it be a good idea to eventually apply to UVU and meet new people that way? Or one of the other universities in the region? I should mention that I’d be an older student (I’m 26 now), and also that I’m gay and not Mormon. Are the gay dudes on campus normal or are they pronoun obsessed weirdos? And what about the Mormons on campus, are they friends with non-LDS students or do they only talk to other Mormons? I’m quite reserved but very eager to meet people, but is this a place to do it?

Small update on the grocery savings app I built at UVU. Get notified when your favorite products drop in price. Need feedback

One of the most consistent pieces of feedback I got was some version of “cool, but I don’t want to open the app every week just to check if prices dropped.” Fair. So I built a Watchlist.

How it works: you add items you buy regularly (milk, eggs, whatever) to your Watchlist, and the app pushes you a notification when the price drops by 10% or $0.50 at a store near you. You don’t have to check anything, the app just tells you when it’s worth switching stores that week.

Still testing it, still probably has bugs, still need people to break it and tell me what’s confusing. If you were one of the folks who downloaded it last time, I’d love to know if this actually helps or if it’s just noise. And if you haven’t tried it yet, no pressure, but this update might make it more useful for how most people actually shop.

Also happy to answer questions if anyone’s curious how it works technically, or has ideas for features that would actually be useful.

Links in comments so this doesn’t get auto-flagged.

Thanks again,
Juan (senior, CS)

Built a grocery savings app as a UVU school project. Trying to see if it actually helps Provo/Orem families before I take it further.

Hey fellow Wolverines,

I'm a software engineering student here and figured this might be the right sub to ask for help.

A couple semesters back I built a grocery price comparison app called Grocerlist as a class project. Idea was pretty simple, I kept realizing I was paying way more for the same groceries because I only shopped at whatever store was closest to my apartment, when there were cheaper options a couple miles away. I didn't have time to check five store apps every week, so I built one that does it for me.

Basic version: you build your grocery list in the app, and it shows you your total cart cost at every nearby store. Prices come from real users who scan items when they're at the store, you also earn points for scanning, which turn into gift cards (Target, Amazon, Walmart, and some others). Completely free.

The project ended up growing into an actual business I've been working on outside of class, but here's the honest problem: it only really works when enough locals are using it and scanning prices. Right now the price data around Orem is decent but thin, I've been doing most of the scanning myself.

I'd love a handful of UVU students to try it out and tell me what breaks, what's confusing, what you'd want it to do differently. Students are some of the most budget-conscious grocery shoppers on the planet, so if it doesn't work for you, it probably doesn't work for anyone.

No pressure at all if it's not your thing. But if any of you want to test it and tell me it's garbage, I'd rather hear that now than after another year of building on the wrong stuff.

Mods, if this crosses the line let me know and I'll take it down.

Links in comments so this doesn't get auto-flagged.

Cheers,
Juan (senior, CS)

Request incoming UVU freshman looking for queer-friendly roommates

Hi, i’m a young student (currently 17, will be 18 by time classes start) looking for queer-friendly roommates and a place near campus before this Fall 2026 semester. i won’t have a car, but i do have a bike, so i’m looking for a place close to campus.

I do NOT want to be living at home. i dont need “emergency” housing but im really looking to find people to room with. hoping to stay under $600/month but we’ll see.

i’m a trans guy, out for 3 years, mostly(?) socially transitioned, starting medical transition as soon as possible. not picky on roommates, just keep shared spaces clean ish & don’t hatecrime me. i’m chill i swear.

if you or someone you know is looking for roommates to sign up for a place together, or already have a lease with space for another roommate, please reach out! if not, an upvote would really help to get this in front of more people 🙏

(edited: specified more details, also changed 700 to 600)

Mini Update

Two things:

1) I have a meeting with the Dean next Tuesday. I’ve been compiling everything into one document (including screenshots of every single email).

2) because of this entire situation, I lost my scholarship that I received through the school. So yeah, I’ll definitely be bringing that up in the meeting.

I’m so completely lost guys. I don’t know what to do other than keep fighting it, but it’s really not going anywhere.
