Student looking for roommate or room (Late July)

Hi everyone! I'm a Junior in Mechanical engineering, who works part-time in west El Paso and I'm looking for either:

》a room for rent, or

》another student/professional interested in finding a place together.

My budget is around $400–600/month depending on utilities. I'm clean, respectful, quiet, don't smoke or drink, and usually spend my time at work, school, or the gym. I'd prefer something with a reasonable commute to UTEP or the Resler area.

If you know of anything available or are looking for a roommate yourself, feel free to message me. Thanks!

Do you guys recommend? I’m currently pursuing a MA in LS/PA but I rather change paths to the Ph.D since my dept is bad at it!
Is anyone there? Is it worth? How are you funding it?

Looking for advice, posible change of career paths

Delete if not allowed

Iwould like to get some insight from people who attend or graduated from UTEP already.

Im currently enrolled into EPCC. Im working on my engineering associate and was hoping to transfer to UTEP next year. I already got the certificate in Robotics and Automation from EPCC and I have an associate in Automotive from Western tech.

Reason im giving this background is because, well I have been in the automotive industry for some time now and I originally looking into engineering as the next step in my career so im not stuck in a shop all my life.

Now after being back in school for 2 years, Im kinda regretting my whole career path.

I see lots of friends and family members going into the medical field and getting paid good, finding jobs really easily, I see the medical field growing big in El Paso and more open at hiring new people. Industrial maintenance (or engineering) seems like a longer shot to get a good job I see lost of factories and Amazon growing in El Paso and Juarez but they hiring people with experience only, I have applied to a million places already and only Scheider has call me for an upcoming interview next week.

Should I make the change to a medical field career or stay where im at and keep trying?

I'll like to know if anyone has made a similar career change or if anyone here has any advice from either career path.

sorry for making this post longer than what it should be and thank you in advance for your time

GPA Booster classes

Hello! I'm graduating in the winter and would like to see if there's any classes you all would recommend to add a few points to my gpa, basically any "easy A" classes. My GPA's currently pretty good but I'd like to make it more competitive and don't mind taking an extra class.

Students, we want to hear your story!

Have you ever wanted to share your experience as an English Second Language (ESL) university student in a health sciences program? Your story is valuable, and sharing it can help researchers understand how to better support students like you.

What’s involved:
• One online survey that will take 10-20 minutes

Who can participate:
Students (1) over the age of 18, (2) whose native/first language spoken is not English, and (3) are currently pursuing a health sciences degree

PhD student Housing

Hi everyone

I’ll be starting my PhD at UTEP in Spring 2027 and I’m beginning to look for affordable housing. I’d appreciate any recommendations for apartments, shared housing, or neighborhoods that are safe, budget-friendly, and convenient for commuting to campus.

If you have any suggestions, approximate rent ranges, or tips for finding good deals, I’d really appreciate it.

Preferably should be below 800$

Thanks in advance!

Has anyone in here has obtained a second degree from the college of science?

Hello, I was a UTEP student who majored in Neuroscience with a biology concentration, and I minored in Mathematics and Physics. I always considered the idea of finishing a Bachelor’s in Physics, but I wanted to graduate on time.

So far, looking at the curriculum, I have fulfilled all the math requirements, and I have taken more physics classes even beyond what was required for the minor. Last time I checked, I only needed 5 upper-division physics classes to finish the major. However, I have heard that even if you come back and fulfill those requirements, they might not grant you the degree because you have to complete a certain amount of credits at the institution. How does that work?

Im likely to get fired for not staying overtime, but i just dont care. I hate UTEP.

UTEP is so awful. Never got a good job that was stable because I didnt want to work in El Paso. I like Fort Worth a lot better. But nobody here wants someone with a UTEP degree. I hate UTEP. Im gonna just get fired for refusing overtime.

Started an AI community for UTEP / El Paso folks — anyone interested?

Hey r/UTEP,

Quick post — started a small community called AI Group of El Paso for anyone here interested in using, building, or learning about AI. Wanted to put it on your radar.

The idea: we have a BS and MS in AI at UTEP now, AAII is doing real work, and there's no peer hangout space for the rest of us who are just into this stuff and want to talk about it outside class. So this is that.

Where: - Discord (most active): https://discord.gg/TYhVWWbb8T - Subreddit: r/AIGroupOfElPaso - IG: @aigroupofelpaso

Who it's for: anyone — CS, non-CS, beginners, working devs, just curious. No level barrier. The whole point is making it less intimidating to ask basic questions.

What we do: share AI news, projects, tools, papers, ask questions, eventually do some in-person meetups. No paywall, no agenda, no MLM.

If you're into AI even a little, swing by. And if you've got better ideas for what a community like this should look like in El Paso, I'm all ears.

Ridiculous Parking Enforcement

Post image
30 Upvotes

It's summer here at UTEP, yet parking enforcement is still acting like El Paso's Motorcycle Cops with how many tickets they've given out. Yesterday, myself and multiple others with valid permits got ticketed for cross-parking, even though cross-parking (besides inner campus) is allowed during the summer semesters per the parking services website (I have a permit for Schuster 1 |Blue| and I was cross parking at Schuster 4 |Blue|). Appealing my ticket soon but has anyone else had this issue recently?

Looking for an off-campus location to attend an online class

Does anyone know of an off-campus place where one can attend an online class without bothering too many people, if my house or UTEP are not an option.

I don't think study places like Starbucks would be appropriate if I have to join a Zoom meeting and be talking to others.
