In January, Gov. Greg Abbott barred public colleges, universities and some state agencies from filing new H-1B visa petitions without state permission through May 2027.
The Texas Tribune found that 44 Texas public universities, health centers and system offices reported sponsoring 3,332 H-1B workers. A majority of the H-1B workers at MD Anderson, for example, are conducting cancer research. We want to understand how Abbottās directive is affecting people and higher education institutions across the state.Ā
Do you have direct knowledge of its effects at UT Austin or a Texas academic medical center? Has it slowed hiring, disrupted research, affected clinical teams or caused international workers to reconsider positions at your institution?

Hello! I had opted out of LTA for my HIS315k thinking that I would be able to find the readings using alternate resources (š š ) but I didn't check until the class started and turns out its not on any of the resources I checked.. does anyone know if you can opt back into LTA or is there some other way to find the book? Do any of you have a copy or something? I just need to be able to do the reading.
It is the HIS315k book by Olwell.
Thank you.

So I have a concert in the fall which lands on a weekend but I am still unsure if I should bring my car to campus⦠the concert is going to be at Mohawk which is like 10ish minutes away from UT by car (?) Iāve never been to a concert alone before and it will be my first time. I saw the walking distance from my dorm in kins to Mohawk and saw its crazy far (like 40 min)⦠need advice on what I could do to stay safe since the concert ends at like 10pm and I donāt want to feel unsafe especially because Iām a girl.

I have it in a couple hours but I feel really sick, Iāve done everything else and am going to go to the advisor stuff tmrw to register, I just donāt know if I feel well enough to go. Will they cancel my advising appointments or make me redo orientation for missing one thing?

logged out of the computer two days ago, but when I used it today, all my search history and documents were still there.
Is this information saved specifically to my personal account, or can anyone who logs into this computer access my search history and documents?

Iām looking to join a new org this year (ideally a zine/something creative) to meet people outside of just Marketing/McCombs! Iāve heard some people have had mixed experiences in these orgs so I wanted to hear peopleās experiences in Spark vs Hookd, or also if there are other orgs you guys recommend. I know these orgs are competitive, so Iām not 100% expecting to get into either of the 2 that I mentioned, but I do have decent marketing/social media/graphic design experience and a rising junior. Let me know what you guys have heard/experienced or if there are similar orgs you guys could recommend š

I saw UT SDS is having a counter orientation going on. Iām kinda curious but has anyone gone to it? Or plans to go? Not too sure what orgs to join and it seems like a cool opportunity but unfamiliar with SDS.

Hey longhorns,
I was admitted with the transfer batch into my major since being rejected out of hs a little over a year ago. I spent my year at UTSA, commuting from the other side of town at nearly every part of the day. For my 8:30 am class, I was getting up at 6:30 to even think about getting there on time. I have more morning classes at UT but Iām not used to being able to walk everywhere so conveniently. Iām walking from Dean Keeton/ medical area. How much faster will the morning routine be? Do yaāll go back to dorms or aptmnts throughout the day during gaps? This life seems beautiful.

Hi! So iām debating on whether or not to bring my ESA cat with me to college, and would like your input/experience. My cat is a three legged, 5 year old medium haired brown tabby. Sheās the sweetest cat, really chill, and not destructive at all (i won the lottery with her) and sheās good with people for the most part. Basically iām moving into the block in a 2x2 and will have a shared bedroom with another girl. I live like 30 minutes away from campus with light traffic. Iām debating on bringing my cat because we are super attached to each other. I know she will miss me, and iām nervous she will get depressed because my mom is the only one living at the house but she works m-f and is usually out on weekends. if i take my cat with me, we can be together a lot more often( like everyday) since iām a homebody and id just go to class and then to my room for the most part.
under the assumption that bringing my cat is no problem to my roommates, should i bring my cat with me, or leave her home and visit on weekends?

sorry if this is a dumb question, but im considering adding myself to a waitlist or swapping my M408D class for M408M cuz of my prof (Sobnack). I was wanted for 408D to be my breather class but all the RMP are saying you will have to put excess effort into this class whereas the other prof for M408M looks to be alot more chill. whats the move? thanks

i just recently got off the waitlist for parking at brazos garage which is relatively close to where i'm going to be dorming so extremely convenient, but paying at least $1000 to park for the school year is lowkey kinda crazy. should i just pay for a different parking garage or is brazos the move? not bringing my car is out of the question.
