First year student

I’m wondering if I can finish a Law and Society degree in the shortest time possible, like three years or even less, and I don’t care if it means a lot of work. I just want to get it done quickly. If I speak to an advisor in my first semester and ask to take six courses, would that be an option? Can I also take courses in spring and summer, and if so, how many? I know in high school, there are ways to earn credits, such as doing a language challenge for 15 credits or completing a fast-paced course to get another 15 credits. Is there something similar I could do at university? Also, are advisors usually hesitant about students wanting to finish their degrees quickly, or are they generally accommodating and willing to offer advice, or are they just pushy about their opinions?

Edit: I’m not asking on whether I will be employed or not if I do it quickly since I won’t be working in Canada, and the place I’m moving back I’m well connected, and getting a job is easier, but thanks for the advice.

What are the odds of me getting in to Eng if I have a 91.5 GPA? And if I don’t get in, what options do I have at that point. (I got in for Eng at UofA but I would rather not go there since I live in Calgary.)

I messed up big time

So I’m going into first year CS and haven’t registered for any classes. I had some mid understandings and things going on so I didn’t register for any classes.
Now that I’m registering for my classes, I can’t get into many that are required and can’t fit them into my schedule. Many classes that are required are full and I’m on the position 89 for some of them. Some classes are so full I have no room for them anywhere.

I’m really stressed I don’t know want to do. I emailed the faculty but could use some guidance

Hey everyone!

I'm an incoming Fall 2026 Computer Science student at the University of Calgary and I thought it'd be nice to start meeting some people before the semester begins.

A little about me: I'm coming from Winnipeg, and I'm into, AI, sports, trying new food, and just hanging out. I'm looking forward to meeting new people, making friends, and getting involved on campus.

If you're also starting CS this fall (or even if you're in another program), feel free to send me a DM! It'd be cool to get to know some people before move-in and classes start. :)

I was looking at the UofC bookstore website to see the list of textbooks required for the course and I see 2 options. What is the difference other than the price?

Mormons on Campus?

So I'm doing summer classes right now, and I've noticed a strangely high concentration of Mormon youth on campus. I don't have an issue with it, but it's definitely enough to take notice.

Why are there so many? Is there like a convention or a teaching program going on?

How exactly does Dean’s List work?

I understand that over the past 24 units (8 courses), you must have a 3.6 GPA or higher. However, I’m wondering does this mean the overall average of course GPA must be higher, or each individual course must be >3.6??

Hoping for the former cause that’s the only way I qualify 🙏🙏

Didn't take high school physics

Hey guys so I'm pretty scared as I just realized that MCAT requires university level physics while I never studied physics in high school and I'm about to go to university next month. Please guide me through what I should do, how to study, what will be the best resources.

Thanks.
